Curious
As much as the Coward understands that curiosity often kills creatures, he often cannot help himself. Perhaps as an escape from the tedium, he can easily become engrossed in any source of information he finds. Whether it is a fascinating book or a new plant, he will often wind up wanting to study it immediately.
Skittish
The bombardment of sounds outside of the typical human-hearing range has led Ricardo to become more easily startled than most. As he honed his senses further out of fear of the unknown, this nature has become even more prevalent as now he has become aware of even more dangers. Luckily, since learning about the relaxing nature of smoking, he has been more frequently able to stick his head above water and satisfy his curiosity better.
Placater
With the capability to literally see hidden emotions and a general lack of courage, Trick will often go out of his way to improve someone’s mood, especially if he thinks he is at fault. Despite his many personality flaws, he is often more accepted than many might think due to these efforts. Of course, for a certain individual, they might consider this simply sucking up to those that are stronger than him (since many are)…but it is the thought that counts right?
Unfocused
A great many aim to become experts in their fields, but Ric spent most of his life without discovering one true calling. Basically, he can be easily distracted and grow bored with repetitive tasks or info. This has led him to gain a vast amount of surface-level knowledge in herbalism, cooking, and zoology; however, any real expert would easily put his capabilities to shame.
Irresponsible
Ricardo is not the ideal person to put in charge of watching the ship, dealing with a long nightshift, or other tedious tasks. As he finds himself distracted easily, often by his own curiosity, few should trust him to such tasks in important moments. Often, it is better to give him shorter, exciting tasks where failure is an option. Better yet, leverage his own flights of fancy to convince him that a task is clearly the most interesting thing nearby, resulting in him being committed…at least for a time.
Appearance
A blue fishman, Ric is a mostly a product of a modern city. Most commonly, he wears slacks that he has connected overall straps to (due to shirts often messing with the pectoral fins coming out from his elbows) and flat shoes without laces (to quickly be able to take off if needed). As his pectoral fins can expand into huge fans, he excels in hotter climates than most people, but struggles with cold weather. Often wearing a hat due to the brightness of the sun in his infrared vision, some think he might find the dorsal fin coming out of his head awkward; however, he rarely worries about that type of detail as his large ears are constantly picking up strange ultrasonic noises. When relaxed, one would typically see him reading a book or looking over something else, but most instead think he is a habitual smoker even though he only actually smokes when stressed…which is fairly often.

Class:– E
Description:– One of the primary styles that fishmen often practice, Fishman Jujutsu focuses on redirection instead of the explosive power of Fishman Karate. The techniques have vastly different effects when on land compared to sea due to the ability to manipulate water as if a tangible material. Overall, it is based on concepts from jujutsu and aikido; however, manipulating the environment allows the techniques to be used from a distance instead of traditional grappling techniques that assume the enemy can be physically touched.

}Traits
Unheroic Predator (Amphibious)
Fishman Fixed Trait
Ricardo has the pickings on weakest on aquatic and terrestrial life. Breathing in air and water equivalently not only grants the capability of finding the easiest nearby prey, but also allows an escape from stronger creatures into an un-pursuable habitat. Naturally, a being built for the ocean also has superior mobility underwater compared to landlubbers.
Craven Adaptations (Inhuman Strength)
Fishman Fixed Trait
As a creature preyed on by those in the deep and those in the sky, freshwater butterflyfish have natural adaptations to allow them to explosively escape stronger foes. Their pectoral fins have the strength to suddenly propel them out of the water, their legs have the force needed to bound over fauna, and their arms contain the strength needed to wrestle out of the clutch of avians.
Flight-or-Flight Reactions (Inhuman Senses)
Starting Physiology Trait
Ingrained in this breed’s psyche is a specialty to flee from those greater. This expertise comes from additional sensory aspects: infrared sight, ultrasonic hearing, and vibration amplification. Infrared sight allows them to peer through many traditional hinderers such as water, night, and smoke to track nearby predators or prey with ease. Ultrasonic hearing allows them to listen to the typically inaudible ultrasonic noises some predators leverage. Their vibration amplification improves their ability to sense vibrations, most commonly sound, while their pectoral fins are spread into their natural fanning shape like antennas. Each of these come with minor drawbacks, as infrared vision removes their ability to see colors, ultrasonic hearing often increases noise pollution, and vibration amplification (when leveraged) can make them even more susceptible to sound-based attacks.

Name:– Sui-ai
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 0
Description:– Sui-ai is a powerful shout (kiai) used to hone the spirit or startle enemies. Liberal practitioners believe the true purpose is that simply exhaling before powerful strikes relaxes the body to stream out their maximal strength.
Name:– Miso-gi
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 0
Description:– By washing the whole body with a waterfall or water droplets (misogi), it is said a user can purify their soul. Some biologists argue that the purpose of the ritual is to instead ensure that Fishman Jujutsu works as intended even in especially dry areas.
Name:– Tonjiru no Henkou
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 1
Description:– One of the most basic principles of redirecting attacks is moving the body smoothly away from an attack (tai no henkou). Ricardo achieves a primitive form of mastery by expanding one of his pectoral fins into fan form before executing a fierce elbow strike, allowing him to pivot his body around his fin instead of just his legs.
Name:– Yuki-zuki
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 1
Description:– Yukizuki is a straightforward gap-closer or escape where the user harshly pushes off their legs and flies through the air with a loaded double punch (oizuki). Ric’s custom take enhances the technique by expanding his pectoral fins into their fan form while swinging his elbows backwards when pushing off, using the immense strength of his legs and fans to greatly increase the distance the attack can cover.
Name:– Gedan-ame
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 1
Description:– Although traditionally an anatomy-based standing throw that drives upwards with the shoulder and elbow to put an enemy on their back (Gedan-ate), Ricardo has brutalized and bastardized the technique into something few others would call a traditional throw. Essentially, by opening his pectoral fin when the elbow is moved backwards, the fishman’s upper body surges diagonally upwards for a full-powered shoulder bash that forcibly tilts the torso of the target far enough back that they have to fall.
Name:– Konbu-gaeshi
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 1
Description:– Exploiting the weakness of joints compared to the rest of the body, this grappling technique redirects the strength of an incoming strike into a wrist lock before using that leverage to drive an opponent into the floor (kotegaeshi). Due to the anatomy of controlling the wrist in this way, the skill also functions as an effective disarm against handheld weapons.
Name:– Wakame-dori
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 1
Description:– The user does a middle-spin before using their elbow to drive away someone currently grabbing them from behind (katadori). Ricardo’s version of this technique can include expanding his pectoral fin into its fan form when swinging his elbow at the end, resulting in the capability to rapidly ascend or fall. This massively improves his vertical movement while underwater, or his jump and descent speed while above the water.
Name:– Kaiten-nori
Fighting Style:– Fishman Jujutsu
Rank:– 1
Description:– Developed as a countermeasure to those stronger than fishmen, Kaiten-nori is a powerful throw relying on the ideas of leverage. The technique essentially functions by rotating an appendage of the target in a circular pattern to break their balance before tossing them (kaitennage). As the held appendage acts as a lever, the throw even works on creatures much heavier and stronger than the user.

Background
}In the muggy underbelly of the gently rocky ship, Ricardo and a few other kids silently pressed parchment against the cannon walls, trying to get the small bits of lights from the port holes to allow them to read their own writing. The joy from the banquet a few days before was long forgotten, and one of the first times Pera had heard silence simply stressed him instead of comforted him. Sighing, he tapped the paper with the quill several times, trying to decide what to even write. He had not seen his mother since he was a child and did not understand why the captain wanted each of them to pen a letter to their family. What did it even matter? Half of the kids had already lost them all while the other half’s parents were painfully aware of the past few days. Starting with the obvious, the man his friends used to call Trick began to his mother.
Anna,
The courageous lass you once called your son is no more. Only a soulless husk of the child that begged to become the wisest hunter of Enkai remains. The caretaker you left in charge of me after sending me away from the soapland, Biagio, recently passed and I have boarded the pirate vessel “The Soaring Marlin” to leave this accursed land. To be honest, most of the fault of his death lay with me.
Stopping his letter, Ric recalled the first time he met Biagio Borrelli. Despite being a fishman like his mother and himself, the man was a literal and figurative towering figure. A Tuna Fishman might not traditionally seem like one of the strongest around; however, one look at Biagio made it clear that he was a different breed. With his bulging muscles, one could only imagine what his calloused hands could tear apart. In his first meeting, he simply stared down at the boy of barely 7 years of age and said how proud he was I choose not to burden my mother by coming to the land of hunters.
Honestly, Bragio and I never understood one another. The first time I met the man and he said he was proud of my presence as it meant you were burdened less, I never had the courage to correct him. As you well know, I was never that selfless. Perhaps fortunately, Enkai did not afford me the luxury that Minato allowed. The books I craved were too expensive and difficult to get a hold of, with me instead having to settle for learning from the hunters about the tropical forest that separated the two towns. Bragio thought of me as a dedicated lass who actually wanted to become a wise hunter, but there simply wasn’t anything else to do!
Ric wiped the water growing in his eyes away. Even while complaining about his childhood, it some ways the lifestyle suited him. He was surrounded by the strong. As long as he never pissed them off too much, he had the privilege of being able to learn new things from them and partake of the food they caught.
Over time, my curiosity led to hunters being deceived enough to assign me as a boarbeater in hunts. Basically, it is the task of tracking down a boar and convincing it to run towards those who could defeat it. I excelled at this task, and I truly felt that I was growing brave. That was probably around the time Bragio last visited you in Minato, perhaps tricking you too into believing that your still self-centered son had turned a corner and become capable of thriving in a community. Based on the bracelets he brought back and encouraging words from you, there was probably at least some misunderstanding.
Glancing around at the now-orphaned kids writing things around him, Perry knew that writing more about his hunts and peaceful life in Enkai would only serve as a distraction from the climax of the letter. Placing his quill on the page while trying to build up the nerves to tell the stupid tale, it appeared that his words were turning into just scribbles as his hand trembled. Holding the paper against the wall with elbow and digging through his pants, he found his last box of cigarettes and struck one alight. Sticking his head out of the port for the cannon, he starred back on the island of Enko no Saisho and the area outside the port of Enkai where the battle took place. Whose dumb idea was it to attempt to fight the sea king? Who caused the death of Bragio and the parents of most of the kids riding the ship? Of course, the man who constantly was seen around town grabbing his head from the sea king’s ultrasonic capabilities. The one who held a grudge against a beast so mighty that others quaked from it. Ricardo Pera.
I grew conceited. Bragio praised me too often and my success with the boars made me think that maybe we should take on a real feast: a sea king. In addition, some powerful looking fishmen pirates were in town laughing at how the grand line was not as fierce as they heard and that they had trained too long for such a pleasant journey. There, I made a request of the hunters that would lead to so much blood it might have tinted the sea on Minato’s coast scarlet as well. “Let’s kill the sea king, we can ambush it using my capability to hear where it is. We will never have to worry about Oomizu stealing the bounty of our coast again.” With the pirates on our side and our amazing hunters, we fishmen were not meant to be trapped on land but should be able to prey on the bounty of the sea. Having wanted to leave to the next island anyway, the pirates themselves too were glad to chip in and prove their superiority. It…did not go as planned. Many of our hunters died, and the cowards like me and a few of the remaining pirates were the only ones to emerge from the sea that day. As the pirates planned to go back to the blues, some of the now-orphaned kids and I joined them to go somewhere that the food is plentiful and there are no sea kings.
Having done his task of writing a letter, Ric looked around. Kids in silent tears around him were writing sometimes longer letters and others had not even started. The Coward handed the letter to the man blocking the gangway leading topsides and headed towards the light peeking from the deck.
