The Tengu stood up thinking about the things that had just been explained to him. Or rather the plan Francis had in mind... deep down he was hoping Francis would ask him to continue. While protecting the people tugged at his heart and soul the Tengu deep down knew of his own impurity. The primal desire and greed to fulfill his goal were strong almost as strong as his will to ensure other people's safety. So he was depending on Francis to sway him one way or another.
"Well... wether Oni Island is another of his facsimiles like this forest or an actual island we can only find out by catching up to the Vandal."
Gen brandished his sword the blade slung over his back as its cutting edge was pointed skyward. He looked up at the sky wondering how this construct of fake visual reality worked. Realistically this was all just a train cart like any other... however the Vandal with his near god-like artistic skills had warped the carts appearance beyond human comprehension. Gen for his part believed the man to practice some sort of magic that allowed him to repaint the quality of objects. In reality, he wasn't too far from the reality beyond the concept that it was magic which it wasn't... Devil Fruits to Gen were many things sorcery, magic, or acts a man did through possession. None of them were based on the weird science fruits had a basis on. In the end, this didn't matter to the Tengu. He had an experiment he wanted to test...
"Before we move on. I want to check something out very quickly."
He said to Francis, turning to him before hopping up in the air. Quite literally as it could be interpreted Gen began to fly or rather walk on the air. It was a technique he had learned on his own... by essentially letting himself go and relaxing he noted he was able to walk on the air. Or maybe it was more like a drunken stumble rather than a standard walk or hop. Gen went higher and higher until he reached the clouds... clouds which much to his surprise seemed solid as he landed on one. High above he looked down at Francis who seemed small but was still clearly visible... he must have been twenty or fifteen feet high give or take. With that, he turned his sights back to the sky above him. It seemed real yet it also seemed to end... Gen grabbed his sword and poked the sky.
The sound of the train's metal roof was made. The Tengu narrowed his eyes. Although it looked different much of its real property had not changed. He grabbed his blade preparing a power attack and placed the sheathed sword upright (while holding it in a reverse grip.) He then closed his eyes trying to senses the "motion" of the metal, the Tengu then rapidly unsheathes, attacks, and resheathes their sword. Releasing a devastating blow that cut the train's steel roof wide open. The sound of metal being shredded was all that was heard as he ripped it open.
A steel cutting technique he mastered while in the short stay he had in North Blue. An attack that had defeated a Dragon Turtle a creature from legends breaking open its steel shell. But now Gen had used it to cut through a fake sky allowing the rain to come in and begin to melt away much of the fake world or at least the part that was directly under the train. The Tengu slung his blade over his shoulder and jumped off the now melting cloud on the ground below. Landing with a quite thud... he was on his feet. An incredible leap and a show of his acrobatic skills.
"Well Francis, it seemed my hypothesis was correct. I am sure I wasn't the only one wondering why the Vandal didn't pick a fight with you back then. But now I think we got our answer."
He motioned around to the patch of melting world around them. The environment was on their side. The storm outside nullified the powers of the Vandal... he wanted them to be stuck inside! If they could go out or at least force him out they would be able to defeat him with ease. Gen looked at his blade, he frowned noticing small fissures that had begun to form around its edge... it was a good sword but not good enough at least not with how he was treating it. An upgrade would be required sooner rather than later. He sighed and continued to speak.
"Indoors the Vandal is stronger... but outdoors with the rain, he can't use his power to its fullest extent. We should try and usher him outside. That may give us the chance we need."
