Mock Town, Jaya
-Ten minutes before dawn-
The pirates who so loved to visit the port town weren't such a bother so early in the morning. Sure, some were still up from the night before, but their drunken laughter and brawls were beginning to die down as the exhaustion of a night of revelry caught up to them, so one could traverse the streets feeling that slight bit safer as long as this hypothetical one could bring themselves to get out of bed so early.
That wasn't such a hard thing to do for a consummate fisherman like Beldan. He whistled quietly as he walked down the street, taking his usual route toward the docks - taking care to step over the loudly snoring body slumped in the middle of the street, which wasn't so unusual, really. Of course, waking up early came with other benefits besides avoiding the worst of the chaos of Mock Town, like getting to fully appreciate the sunrise out on the open waters.
The sound of the waves hitting the docks was wrong, though. Beldan blinked as he stepped down onto the wooden pier where he knew his fishing vessel had been, there at the end - what was wrong with this scene? He wracked his brain as he continued down the pier, stroking the little bit of greying hair on his chin as he went. It was only when he reached the end of the pier, where he knew his boat had been left the prior evening, when it finally hit him.
Down there, at the docks of the popular pirate resort of Mock Town, there wasn't a single ship.Lilin Post #1 / Tally Post #1"...lin? Come on, now, time to wake up."
The gentle voice was contrasted by a rather rough shake of her shoulder - Lilin's eyes quickly opened, only to be met by a sort of softer darkness, of light just peeking through the cracks between her arm and her head. With a groan, she picked her head up off the table she'd apparently fallen asleep face-first on, and locked her eyes on the person who had dared to wake her up.
Ophelia was always far too cheery in the mornings. The so-called "Phantom Thief" looked like she'd been awake for hours, even though Lilin knew that couldn't have been the case - her hair was brushed, she'd changed into a new set of those dress clothes she so enjoyed... It was, quite frankly, both sickening and upsetting. "... What do tha want, eh?" Lilin finally forced out, and then dropped her head back onto the table. "Can't tha see I'm resting, tha damned sun-riser...?"
"Oh yes, I did notice that." Ophelia's response was given in as playful a tone as ever, but there was some genuine annoyance in it as well. "But there's better places to fall asleep than in the middle of a bar, Lilin, and besides - it's time to be awake. Come on, up up up!"
Lilin groaned again as the thief rolled her over onto her side, and then onto her back, and then onto her side again- And then the little devil fell right off the table, onto the wooden floor of the establishment. As soon as her body hit the floor, Lilin exploded outward like a smoke bomb, black smoke filling a fair chunk of the room until a black mask of a face formed within it, glaring out at the smiling face of her friend. "Why, tha little..." Rather than any coherent insults, Lilin simply hissed, like some sort of sentient tea kettle, as her form condensed back down into the little horned imp of a woman she was normally, one hand extended toward Ophelia with the middle finger extended upward. "I should wring tha's scrawny little neck for that."
"But!" Lilin's eyes crossed as she tried to focus on the finger that quickly accelerated toward her face, touching the end of her sharp nose quickly before retracting. "You won't."
The "Smoking Devil" gave a hmph as she folded her arms over her chest, but that certainly shut her up. "Tha owe me a smoke and a drink, leastly."
"Oh, I do, do I?" Ophelia laughed, and then nodded. "I suppose it's a good thing I 'acquired' this tobacco and whiskey for you, then."
"All of the ships disappeared, you say?" Tally didn't really need to ask the question, not when she could quite literally turn her head and observe the harbor to see that the man's words were true. "I... Wonder how that could have happened..."
"It's true! Look! They're all gone! Sunk to the bottom of the sea floor!" The bearded fisherman gestured at the docks for a moment, and then put his hands on his hips. "That's why I want you to go under the water and get me my fishing rod!"
Tally unclenched her jaw and sighed. Of course, she knew that swimming below the waves wouldn't reveal a ship graveyard, let alone this older man's fishing rod. But why had they taken something so insignificant in the first place...? "I'm very sorry about your fishing rod, sir, but I'm afraid that I'm already running late for meeting up with my companions, so..." She took a step back from the man and began to turn away, watching him from behind her blue tea shades - the man looked utterly dejected, and didn't seem to protest or push his case any further.Really, what had they been thinking?
