LEONARD LECLERC & ANGELO SORES
ACT I SCENE III- Building is a Man's Romance!Roped in the Davy Back Fight! -
Zarzara was quite a sight indeed, it was unlike any island Leonard had seen before, it was for all intents and purposes, a desert, just sandy dunes with the occasional rock, what really made it stood out however was ships and vessels could just sail “into” the centre of the island, a giant canal had been built liking the central oasis city with the Southern ocean.
Arriving at the centre of the island the small pirate crew were greeted by a large sign built as an arch over the canal where one could read “Welcome to Waq Waq Oasis” the name of the only town on the strange island.
The port was absolutely bustling, ships of all size were being moored or sailing off. To the side of the port the huge shipyard was visible to all, vessels of all sizes were being built there. The sight brought a smile to Leonard’s face, after all this was why they had come here.
A voice interrupted the young man's thoughts. “Hey! You there in the dingy, get out the way and move to dock four before you get crushed!” Leonard turned to the source of the voice and saw it came from what appeared to be a local man standing on a small platform in the port waters while waving flags. Someone in charge of guiding ships to the right spot in the port.
Leonard had a quick moment of panic trying to right the sail to guide the ship in the correct direction. Angelo jumped on his feet and went to the rudder, pushing against it with all strength to turn the ship before they got it by a large galleon leaving the port. Both men pulled and pushed respectively with all their strength, just barely managing to get the ship out of the way of the passing galleon.
“Just hurry up and get out of the way you morons!” shouted the port authority workers, clearly getting angry at the fools getting in the way of the actually competent sailors and ships trying to get in and out of the port.
Leonard repeatedly bowed in apology towards the man telling them where to go while Angelo just did his best to stir the ship. Was this what it meant to be a sailor, back breaking work while your captain went about apologizing? Angelo really hoped there was more to it, although a part of him was certainly entertained. Eventually the crew managed to make their way to their designated mooring point and secured their boat in place.
“Phew… that was a bit too close.” Sighed Leonard as he got onto the pier.
“Maybe learn some actual maritime signals for the future. Just so we don’t get run through by battleships next time we get into port.” Angelo added as he finished tying a knot their boat wouldn’t float off while they were gone.
“Fair enough. But first I want some food, some real food! I’m sick of hardtack, jerky and sauerkraut.” While the fledgling captain understood that it was all the best they could do for provisions on their small dingy and while he could tolerate tack and jerky, he really didn't like sauerkraut it was way too sour, though again he knew it was just the best source of vitamin they could store without fear of it going off so that they would not get scurvy out on the seas.
“I’m with you here. Anything but more jerky. Although it would be easier if we didn’t feed all our freshly caught fish to the penguin.” Angelo said while gently bopping the head of Brandon with his knuckles. The martial artist had quickly grown to love the little guy much like Leonard probably had before but man that bird could eat.
Before carrying with the conversation Leonard talked to the official who came to greet them on the pier. Just the usual formalities, name, name of ship, reason for stay, port fees. At least here everything seemed by the book so they would not have to worry about all their possessions getting stolen. Once everything was sorted the swordsman turned back to his crew.
“Let’s just go to a tavern and get some food alright? Maybe even a place to sleep, we can start looking for a ship tomorrow.” Leonard gestured at the shipyard on the other rise of the port. “I don’t think it’ll be too hard to find one.”
Angelo nodded and began to walk alongside his captain towards the first decent Inn they would find next to the port that would have decent beds and food.
They eventually found a promising one called the “Sea’s Oasis”. A bit of a weird name but it would do. Some serving staff greeted them as they entered and gestured for them to take a table. It was already a bit busy as the end of the work day was nearing, no doubt the place would be packed very soon. The three of them took a seat at a table and ordered food. Steak and beer for Angelo, the spiciest stir fry with cola for Leonard and a bucket of fresh fish for Brandon. Yes this place would do for now, at least until the next weird thing happened to the rookie pirates.
