When Cremuex raised her voice at him Zenit could only look away and in a moment of fully clear hindsight sheepishly admit insulting Kiba's mother was not a sound tactic.
"I thought he'd get so angry he'd pass out...or something. That happens. Right? I mean, it sounds like it could happen. And punching him the first time didn't do much." Along with improving his stamina Zenit vowed to somehow improve his punching without devil fruit assistance and preferably not in real combat situations.
The look that Cremuex had given him after looking incredulous for a moment made Zenit feel distinctly less manly which was astounding as he was half of the entire male population on Amazon Lily currently.
Considering her suggestions regarding tying up Kiba and safe, subtle means of cooking meant to the freelance photographer that Cremuex had volunteered to lead this mission.
"Good idea, Miss Crem! You're in charge, just tell me what to do. I think we might actually live through this." In an uncharacteristic, but heart-felt moment Zenit awkwardly patted the blonde cook on her shoulder and smiled, feeling much more secure than he had mere seconds ago.
Cremuex even stood next to Zenit which seemed like a leader providing moral support.
"What do you think we should, Captain? Wait until morning to shoot? If you're worried about your cooking flame attracting an animal I could cover it for a minute at a time with my technique." Sifting through the fungi in his coat pocket the inexperienced outdoors-man decided to try one raw. He preferred them sauteed with butter and a little garlic but he was hungry. Kiba had been eating mushrooms and seemed fine until jungle madness had taken hold and turned the bodyguard into a machete-wielding maniac.
"Would you like one, Cremuex?" Zenit asked with one mushroom resting on the open palm of his extended hand.
With his other had Zenit popped a second mushroom into his mouth and began to chew. Hysterical laughter was soon to follow.
Almost dying, being stuck in a dangerous island in the calm belt, being so very bald, these were now uproariously funny. The riotous laughter also made it difficult to control his body between giggling spasms but he managed to make it to the unconscious Kiba. He tried to place a laughing mushroom in the unconscious man's mouth, but the mouth was simply not having it.
"You're a good guy and what I said about your mother? Not true. I'm sure she's a beautiful and chaste lady."
Zenit sat next to his one-time rival and put his arm over the other man's shoulder and began to sing. "For all I've done for want of wit, the memory now I can't recall. So fill to me the parting glass, good night and joy be with you all." He swayed a little while he laughed and sang and looked over to Cremuex. "...there is a fair maid in this town that surely has my heart beguiled. Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips, alone she has my heart in thrall..."
The rest of that song couldn't make it through Zenit's snickering.
