Mission #119 ★
The King of Lyneel has been growing ever more paranoid about the safety of his riches, particularly a very expensive jewel. Despite his high-tech box that he keeps it locked in, he has made an ultimatum to the local Marines to help him keep it safe. For political reasons the Marines have agreed and have sent you or your group to stand watch! It would be boring, save the fact that the King is right to be paranoid and night after night countless robbers keep trying to get it! They're even trying to kill you to get it! Survive five consecutive nights while also getting to the bottom of why they want that particular jewel so badly and you'll earn 50,000 beri!
As the fiery, luminous orange ball of light and heat dimmed at the horizon, he made his way through the castle’s grand hallways. Each and every square inch of this place just bragged about the king’s wealth and luxurious life. A red, clean carpet beneath his feet, decorative walls with paintings, windows with gold-colored frames, the very heights of the extravagant ceiling beyond his head, and the unnecessarily grandiose pair of swinging doors that he was about to pass through, Pluto followed his escort to the special room. The Lvneel Kingdom reminded him much if his home island, The Holy Remunun Empire, except this royal place and design was a lot more extreme.
Suddenly, a pair of miniature arms wrapped around his waist from behind, giving him a taut hug. Befuddled, the boy, flinched, jerked around, and then lurched away, “EH?” A girl standing much shorter than him but with the same violet eyes greeted with one of her affectionate hugs, pressing her face against her older brother. Pluto tilted his head; a vexed yet defeated expression grew on his face. “I thought I told you to- … oh I give up,” he shot a glance back at his escort to continue walking, and as they progressed through the maze-like corridors and fancy doors, Rebecca, his younger sister, followed along. “Fine…, you can come along,” he pouted, but at least he was able to keep an eye on her.
The little one giggled, “He-he-he!” Her vehement eyes were filled with alacrity as always, so innocent and pristine as if she was looking forward to this. She was probably more looking forward to the actual setting of the castle and the lifestyle within it than the actual mission itself. They soon reached a spacious room, nearly completely empty except for the special stand at the center with a sturdy, metal box on top, sealed with a padlock. It was then wrapped around in chains under another lock, and the entire security was placed under a solid, clear glass of encasement. To an extent, he felt like he just stepped inside an art museum where this thing was up for display, and just in case the expensive jewel wasn’t safe enough, the King of Lyneel had hired guards and marines to keep an eye on it overnight in case someone tried to steal it.
You might as well put a barb wired fence around it while you’re at it. Well, technically, I could probably bypass the security with my lock picks but still… this is a bit extreme.
“So this precious gemstone is inside of all that?” Rebecca glanced at the several layers of security in awe.
Their escort, a formally dressed gentleman, nodded at the little girl, “indeed.”
“So if bad guys come inside, you’ll stop them?” She lifted her head in order to meet Pluto in the eyes.
“Er…,” the boy crossed his arms, “supposedly, although I can’t visualize anyone from the outside stealing it. If anything, the people on the inside are more likely to take it.”
No Rebecca, I’m sure this is just going to be me and the other guards just standing here all night.
Adjacent to the wall where they entered was the only other possible entrance and exit, located to their right. Like any other rooms and hallways, the ceiling was just as high, but there were no windows. There seemed to be only two possible entrances for anyone to get in.
