Name of Island: Mt. Obsidian
A volcanic island
Size of Island: Large.
Location of Island: 50 miles south of the Kingdom of Torino.
Inhabitants: The original builders and inhabitants of this island are long gone. Now it's overrun by a league of about 200 bounty hunters with varying levels of skill and reputation, from all over the world. There isn't any one leader of this group, even though originally an ex-marine named Clement was meant to be the captain. Over time the more charismatic bounty hunters broke away from Clement's control and became leaders of their own divisions. There are currently thirty units within the league, comprised of a captain with 5 or 6 followers. Most of the bounty hunters live in the castle in rooms they claimed for themselves, though a handful only come to the island to attend occasional league meetings.
Town(s)/Village(s)/City or Cities:
Kurohari Castle:The only remnant of the Kurohari Kingdom that used to be located on this island. This gray stone castle is located on a hilltop on the western shore. It's built in concentric castle fashion, with five separate levels and no central keep. The first curtain wall is the lowest, at 40 feet high, with each following wall 30 feet higher than the last. There are ten guard towers spaced in regular intervals around the third level, each about 20 feet in diameter; the floors of these towers are exactly level with the walls of the fifth (and innermost) level. Level one, the largest and lowest level, contains most of the stores and weapons/armor workshops run out of Kurohari, along with a number of personal rooms. Level two is made up of four large storage rooms guarded by castle security. Level three contains the castle's meeting rooms, libraries, and chart rooms. Levels four and five are composed entirely of personal rooms.
Kurohari Castle was recently destroyed by a robot named "Ghost" and is in the process of being repaired by the Bounty Hunters, whom are very very upset that their hideout was destroyed. If you are a Bounty Hunter or looking to make some money, helping repair the castle would be in your best interest as well.
Flora and Fauna: The other buildings built by the Kurohari Kingdom were made of perishable materials, so these structures have since collapsed and decomposed. The remains of hearths and foundations can be found here and there in the fields, though not so much in the woods.
Due to the volcano on the east part of the island, the vegetation here is green and generally nonpoisonous, though some spots around the castle are overrun by poison ivy. Wild grapes are also abundant. The fauna is comprised of small woodland animals, especially deer and rabbits. The populations of these animals are kept in check by the wolves who roam the island.
Island History: 300 years ago, Kurohari was a small but prosperous kingdom that thrived on the production of obsidian crafts. However, their reliance on the volcano would also prove to be their downfall; when it became apparent that Mt. Obsidian was going to erupt soon, King Haphaestos tried to evacuate his people to the Ciudadela Queendom. However, a competing faction of nobles stepped in and called the king a liar, encouraging the citizens to stay and make the interfering noble, Lady Pele, their new ruler.
Afraid to leave the island, most of the citizens backed Lady Pele, and the former monarch had no choice but to leave his nation behind. Unfortunately for him, the noble-gone-sovereign turned out to be right; Mt. Obsidian never did erupt. But even without the threat of the volcano, the island nation was in trouble. Lady Pele was a pandering leader, catering to her family's selfish desires and ambitions, which were usually detrimental to the nation as a whole. Furthermore, the citizens were getting into increasingly violent fights over the land that had been abandoned by those who followed King Haphaestos. Eventually the kingdom fell to civil war. The ruling family was slaughtered, though Lady Pele herself is rumored to have escaped, and the last remaining citizens scattered throughout South Blue.
Rumors of the fabulous treasure of Lady Pele began to circulate, and treasure hunters began to comb the area. Frequent clashes between these different groups made the island a dangerous place to visit, especially as the rumor spread further and the loot remained unfound. The search continued up until fifty years ago, when the ex marine captain Clement chose Kurohari Castle as the base for his new league of bounty hunters.
