A single streak of annoyance creased across Lance's face. Before him, the squat man, dressed in simple garments of leaf green and bark brown, furrowed his brow. Lips pursed and arms crossed.
"Like I says, you won't be finding any others' prices this low. Darn good quality for ya too!"
Lance Volcom smiled lightly, pressed the cigarette between his teeth and took a single long drag. A few seconds passed before he lifted the item from his mouth and blew out a single line of smoke. Almost instantly a gust of wind carried it to the south. Or east, well, perhaps west. Directions were a foreign concept. Standing but mere feet away from the short vendor, Lance leaned closer. His eyes peering from behind the shaded glasses, hair dancing on his crown. Of course what this man was proposing was completely foolish. He was asking a steep price for a set of deep root wood, a specialty of this island. While his quality was top notch the price was outrageous.
"The quality is good... I'll admit. Your crop is best out of most here. However, the ends have been chipped. See? Left side on the opposite end."
A more proper comment would have been to call him a fool for handling the wood in a manner like that. The cut had been done with a blunt edged weapon. Or loose saw. Regardless, this lowered the ability. Something that Lance, as a shipwright, would never agree to purchasing at such a high price. A sudden breeze lifted his hair, spinning it around his head. For a skilled observer, it might have been a sign that a storm was to come. However for Lance, it meant nothing. His entire focus was placed on the large vendor and his merchandise.
"I'll give you half of what your asking for that. I'm certain that's more than enough."
A single smile passed through his face before the cigarette touched his teeth. The offer would be shot down, that much was obvious. Lance knew it the moment he offered it. The point wasn't to purchase the wood, being broke didn't allow such a pleasure, however the point was to irritate the vendor to a specific point. The burning boredom of waiting for his crew to find their way back caused this endeavor. Only a matter of time.
