Timorous Introvert
Anette Mari has always been the type of girl who would much rather keep to herself, possessing a timid and mousy nature and tending to put up invisible walls between herself and others as a means of keeping herself secure. She’s not a cold person, nor is she disdainful of company, but it may quickly become apparent that she has trouble placing her trust in those unknown to her. It often takes quite a bit of warmth and compassion to get her to open up, though she will speak some of what’s on her mind when she deems it important enough to share.
A Loyal Ally
While she may seem to lack self-confidence, Mari is no untrustworthy character. Those who manage to garner her trust will find themselves with an unusually potent and dedicated ally whose loyalty is far from as easily shaken as her disposition. To place one’s faith in her may seem a foolish endeavour to outsiders, but those that have done so will sooner realise that it was far from misplaced. To the best of her ability, she will never break a promise made with someone who maintains her trust.
More Than Just Puppets!
Miss Anette is quite firmly attached to her marionette companions, even going so far as to treat them as if they were alive, talking to them and tending to them as a child might when playing with dolls. Each and every one of her carven comrades purportedly possesses its own unique personality and behaviour, despite the fact that their wooden bodies appear to be inanimate constructs. Those who disrespect her puppets might as well be bullying a friend in need.
Finding Her Voice
Contrary to her external displays, Mari is actually quite the driven individual, but manifestations of that drive and will are often subdued by her own personal mousiness. All the same, she does at least try to work on her character flaws as much as she feels she can, taking small steps to overcoming her issues when opportunities present themselves.Appearance
Height:– 5’6”, approx. 168 cm
Build:– Slim Petite
Eye Colour:– Pale Rose
Hair Colour:– Cherry Blossom
Skin Tone:– Fair
Notable Features:– None
Anette Mari stands at an approximate height of 5’6”, showing signs of growth spurts but probably not destined to get much taller, lending her a slim and rather petite figure. As such, her figure is quite lithe, and for the most part she has no particularly unusual features of note, which can make her seem a little feeble. Her skin tone is very fair.
An ovular face and small features give Mari a somewhat doll-like appearance of her own, with rosy cheeks and relatively large eyes of a pale rose hue. Her cherry blossom-hued hair grows straight and long, though she typically keeps it somewhat contained to a single fishtail plait supported by a bobble or other hair tie, plus a few hair clips to keep her bangs from falling into her eyes. At length, her hair readily reaches her lower back.
Preferred Wardrobe
Mari generally favours lighter colours and simpler, more casual clothing when able. Simple white tops with short sleeves and lightly coloured dungarees are a common sight when she’s at work with carpentry, but she always seems to dress similarly regardless. Obviously, as a Marine, she also wears appropriate uniform when required. Accessories are limited and used almost exclusively for convenience.Other Details
Carpenter & Woodcarver
An incredibly capable woodworker, Mari is surprisingly well acquainted with the world of carpentry and carving. She has a keen eye for the quality and craftsmanship of joinery and woodwork, able to appraise such works as a master would, and a diverse knowledge of different timbers gives her an unusual edge. Her own works are easily comparable to the skills of somebody with thrice her age’s experience.Fighting Style
Anette Mari is not a direct combatant, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a menace to her opponents. By combining a mix of specially crafted wooden marionettes and unusual song that infects the minds of those who hear her, Mari can strength, debilitate, attack, and defend in a variety of ways that make facing her a significant challenge. Even veteran pirates should be wary of her presence, for she can turn the tides of battle, or even potentially outnumber opponents by her lonesome!Aspects
Craftswoman’s Coordination
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Dexterity (Attack Speed)
Between her chosen craft and her puppetry skills, Mari is surprisingly deft and dextrous, able to act quickly and translate such finesse to her marionettes’ own attacks. Although she may not be one to attack directly, her ability to attack quickly and swiftly command her puppets while they are bound by strings is noteworthy—and in some cases quite formidable.
Carpenter’s Cut
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Material Cutting
Mari’s knowledge and understanding of woodwork gives her an unusual edge in combat, for she can sometimes unwittingly discern points of stress and weakness in tough materials, particularly in wood, that a carpenter would typically avoid or make use of to work. By applying this same knowledge and instinctive analysis to the cutting techniques of her marionettes, such as Mahogany’s sword, she can allow their strikes to slash that which a piece of wood should have no business in cleaving.
Strange Songstress
Mari possesses an unusual set of vocal cords due to a rare mutation of her lineage factor—a trait she unknowingly shares with her maternal lineage. Because of this, Mari can create all manner of sounds and frequencies through her voice that a normal human simply cannot, allowing her to sing downright bizarre songs that sound utterly alien to those who hear them. Some would readily liken this ability to that of a Devil Fruit, but that’s far from the case, but this ability does allow for some unusual applications, especially as her marionettes seem to respond to her vocalisations as well…
- Hastening Melodies
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Increased Swiftness
Via a mixture of breakneck beats and subliminal messaging lingering within her vocals, Mari is capable of crafting songs that inspire those who hear them into feats of swiftness. Through these songs, she can charge the movements of her allies with greater speed than is normal, including her own puppets.
Hindering Vocals
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Decreased Reflexes
Dull, distorted tones and softly spoken suggestions inflict a sense of lethargy upon those subjected to them. Mari’s songs that incorporate this effect almost seem to dampen the efficiency of a creature’s nervous system, slowing reaction times as if they were fighting against the weight of being submerged, and in some cases tricking people into thinking everything else around them is moving faster.
Power Ballads
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Increased Strength
Powerful rhythms and supportive subliminal messaging serve to bolster allies’ physical prowess, turning even a mundane soldier into a surprising powerhouse if they let the rhythm flow. Through this ability, Mari’s melodies make the meek into the mighty, pushing people to or even beyond their perceived limits.
Energising Arias
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Increased Stamina Recovery
Types of song whose fluctuating tones and rising rhythms bring additional energy to the area. Mari’s songs are capable of infecting those who hear them with renewed vigour, recovering lost energy at an astounding rate. Admittedly, the aftereffects can be punishing as these songs may take their toll on those who lack natural endurance once the song’s influence wears off.
Mahogany
マホガニー
堂々女史侍
“Dignified Lady Samurai”
Standing at an approximate height of 3’2” (96.5 cm), Mahogany was a marionette crafted by Mari’s grandfather, Gepetto, and draws inspiration from the warrior class of a faraway land. She appears to be clad in a feminine variation of traditional samurai armour, lavender in colouration, with gilded trim and deep red accents. Her face is painted white, with red blush and fiery amber eyes, while her chestnut-coloured hair appears to be fashioned into an Odango cut. She wields a wooden katana, so intricate in design that it even has a notable hamon, which is usually kept stowed in a lavender saya at her side.
Mahogany supposedly possesses a refined, passionate, and honourable personality. She seems to respond to Mari’s voice at times, albeit through subtle movements of arm and head that can easily go unnoticed.
When commanding Mahogany, Mari is able to deliver elegant and swift sword techniques thanks to the puppet’s design properties…
- Swift Blade
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Dexterity (Attack Speed)
Buffed to Tier ★★ by “Craftswoman’s Coordination”
Mahogany’s particular design serves to accentuate the swift drawing techniques and elegant strikes of samurai, allowing her to move her sword with surprising speed and grace despite being an apparent inanimate object. Whether strung or not, Mahogany’s ability to strike deftly is easily comparable to that of trained swordsmen, perhaps even exceeding that at times.
Durable Grain
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Physical Toughness
The actual timber from which she is made being her namesake, Mahogany’s wooden construction is far more resilient than one would expect a wooden doll to be. Although Mari tends to avoid it, Mahogany can readily withstand direct blows with little more than light scratches, resisting strikes that should have readily carved or splintered normal wooden structures.
Warrior’s Passion
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Flame Resistance
Whereas most would consider a wooden doll to be flammable, Mahogany disregards this fact. Extremes of heat and open flame seldom seem to bother this samurai puppet, only mildly scorching what should otherwise be quite readily combustible materials. A roiling blaze is of little consequence to the dignified passions of this noble blade.Techniques

Buffs: Swiftness & Stamina Recovery
Putting her vocal cords to use, Mari begins a speedy melody with an upbeat rhythm that promotes speed and persistence. Allies within earshot are bolstered by a feeling of speediness and vigour, allowing them to recuperate stamina at a more apparent rate, as well as enhancing their movement speed.

Debuffs: Reflexes
By singing a slow rhythm with distorted resonance and lacing her tones with dissuasive and hypnotic messages, Mari causes enemies who hear her to slow down in an unusual way. Rather than physically hindering their speed and finesse, these songs impact the targets’ reaction time, expanding the delays between sending the signal and the body moving.

Buffs: Strength & Stamina Recovery
Mari sings a song featuring a strong beat and invigorating tempo, infusing allies with enhanced strength and stamina recovery to transform them into unrelenting powerhouses. Such a song is lined with subliminal words of encouragement, effectively cheering on those who hear it.

Using Mahogany’s “Swift Blade”
Commanding Mahogany, Mari has the samurai puppet unleash a flurry of slashing attacks with her wooden katana, striking repeatedly from different angles to barrage a foe with an assault that is difficult to defend against. This is especially potent if Mari directly manipulates Mahogany’s strings. It can be performed with other marionettes, but the frequency of the attacks and the power behind them may vary.

Tier ★ X-Tech: “Delayed Strike”
An unusual technique in which Mahogany appears to slash her opponent with her wooden sword, though no immediate effect occurs. Then, sometimes several seconds after the action is made, the target is effectively slashed by the blade, though how exactly it cuts is unknown given that the sword is made of wood. It’s almost as if Mahogany slices an opponent with an actual steel blade. Background
Country of Origin:– Born at Sea, North Blue
Notable Connections:–
- Anette Gepetto (Grandfather, Deceased)
Anette Kermit (Father, Unknown)
Origins, Birth & Early Years
Anette Mari was born at sea, aboard a vessel sailing across the North Blue, though her mother died shortly after giving birth. This would become an unexpected catalyst for her future, leaving her father, Kermit, to look after her. Despite his vow to do so, he would find looking after an infant exceptionally difficult, however, and it was by miracle alone that the tiny tot survived her first year. Kermit had to make a decision, if only for his daughter’s sake, and delivered her to his own father, Gepetto, in the hopes that he would look after the child where he had so far failed. Kind of heart as he was, Gepetto accepted.
It was under her grandfather’s care that Mari would discover her first love: Puppetry. Everything from the smallest, thumble-sized finger puppets to the larger, intricate marionettes that then dwarfed her captivated the child as she grew up. Indeed, it was at a very early age that she became invested in trying to learn her grandfather’s profession in woodcarving, and that spurred new life into what had initially been a frail and weak child that had struggled through life at every turn.
Struggles & Bonds
While Mari’s early childhood under her grandfather’s care was one filled with joy, she knew that something significant was missing from her life. She had no recollection of a man who addressed himself as her father, despite receiving occasional letters and small gifts from such a man, and having confirmation from her grandfather that he was very much a real person who had done a lot for her. This conflict of memory versus what she was told, however, caused Mari to grow more distant and reclusive as she contended with emotions whose source was unknown. The months were difficult, both on Mari and on her grandfather.
On Mari’s thirteenth birthday, however, Gepetto cracked back into her shell by providing her with an important gift. A marionette of exquisite design and great value, whose namesake was the very timber she had been made from: ‘Mahogany’. This unusual doll seemed to forge a strong bond with young Mari, for reasons that most would probably not understand; though Gepetto himself had a good idea of why, he always refused to share. Regardless, Mari seemed to open up again—if not to her grandfather than very much to Mahogany—and that seemed to restore health and meaning.
Gepetto’s Demise
Mari and Gepetto eventually set off to visit a neighbouring island in the North Blue, where something of a festival was held among fine carpenters and woodcarvers who revelled in one another’s works. However, it was on that voyage that tragedy would befall the Anette family, for pirates would make their attempt on the vessel and its passengers and wares. That said, the pirates seemed to have bitten off more than they could chew, for Gepetto himself was a retired Marine, and while his skills had rusted, he was still more than a match for most.
Commanding naught but a mostly featureless marionette upon strings of musical wire, Gepetto was able to defend much of the ship’s crew, passengers, and wares from the pirate’s attempts. But it was as he delivered an incapacitating blow to the pirate captain that a bullet from behind dealt the veteran a fatal blow. Mari and about two dozen others survived the raid, living to see another day, but now Mari was alone. Almost. She had Mahogany with her, and her grandfather’s memories, and that would be enough to send this timid and mourning youth on a quest of her own…
