Reluctant Optimism?
For all her modifications, Wells Sanagi is still very much human at heart. However, her human side was always quite quirky, to say the least. While she’s often very chirpy and cheerful, Sanagi possesses an unusual optimism that manifests in a rather unusual way. She always seems rather loath to announce her brightness, treating moments of confidence and high spirits as things that she’d rather not speak about. Exactly why she does this, even she does not understand, but she can still show regular cheer, so such behaviour can be a bit confusing.

Farm Girl At Heart
A simple girl from simple lands, Sanagi holds a level of diligence and functionality that most would not even dream of aspiring to. Such physical fortitude and hardiness shines through in many a trying time, but there’s no doubt about it that her life before experimentation was filled with routine and hard work. She’ll always give it her all, no matter what, and generally likes to help with whatever she can, whenever she feels able.

Randomly Accessible Memories
Miss Wells suffers rather spontaneous and erroneous memories, both for the short and long terms, likely as a direct result of the processes and surgeries she underwent as part of Moreau’s HG Project. She can easily forget information that was told to her just minutes prior and generally suffers from a significant amount of amnesia about her past, which she likens to a thick fog that wraps around memories as they come to her. However, while times of stress can kickstart her memories, for the most part her recollections are entirely random.

Despite her bizarre appearance, HG-04 firmly believes in her humanity, and acts rather casually in response to other people without really understanding why they seem fearful of her. She never shows aggression or disdain for such folk, however, but rather experiences confusion about events and even her own body. As far as she’s concerned, she’s still a human being, and that’s what matters — if only others could understand that.

A young woman standing at a height of 5’7”, Wells Sanagi is a medium-built individual with relatively normal proportions and signs of a more athletic and physically fit frame, with a bit more favour towards leg length. While she ordinarily wouldn’t seem strange, Sanagi’s form features a variety of oddities that make her stand out and appear far less human than she believes herself to be. Most noticeably, her skin colour has an orange-pink hue, akin to the tone of salmon, and further demonstrates darkened swirling stripes around the neck and shoulders, chest, and thighs. Subtle seams can be seen in various places across her body upon closer inspection.

Sanagi has a mostly ovular physiognomy, with slightly plump cheeks. A slightly wider than average mouth with thin, slightly darkened lips, and a short but straight nose fill out her face, but her somewhat squared eyes display more unusual features. Alkaptonuria turns her sclera jet black, instead of white, to further define vivid yellow irises. Her somewhat curly, partly matted hair is also jet black in colouration, and typically is left loose and combed back out of her face to fall about her shoulders. A pair of very dark grey, almost black horns protrude from her upper forehead, each being about 6” (15 cm) in length.

Preferred Wardrobe
Sanagi generally prefers comfortable, practical clothing. Summery colours are a personal favourite. However, at least as an instance of the HG Project, her general attire consists of an unusual silvery body suit, reminiscent of an astronaut’s space suit, but more accurately fitted to her body.

Not so much an accessory as a part of her: Sanagi’s upper left arm is branded by the characters ‘04’ in bold black as a constant reminder of her designation and origins.

Other Details

Rogue Biological Weapon
Sanagi is just one member of a series of biological weapons developed by the deranged scientist Doctor Moreau, a former member of MADS prior to its dispersal, in response to his criminal status and independence. Though he often disagreed with Doctor Vegapunk due to ethical conflicts, Moreau was ultimately close to a breakthrough with the ‘HG Project’, and his broken ties with former MADS members gave him plenty of room to work on the concept of living weapons.

Fighting Style

Although she prefers to resolve conflict in a more peaceful manner when able, Wells Sanagi is equipped with a wide array of bizarre biological adaptations suited for combat, both in close quarters and at distance. Doctor Moreau’s specific goal with her design was to create a highly durable bio-weapons platform capable of rapid engagement of designated targets, mixing close combat arsenals with volleys and barrages.

Sanagi’s upper body features a number of specialised glands concealed beneath her skin. Derived from the lineage factor of certain wax-producing insects, these glands allow her to produce notable quantities of a brown wax that rapidly blackens and hardens when exposed to air, forming a crystalline structure with strength comparable to dense stone or steel. With this, Sanagi can coat her head, back, shoulders, and arms in an additional protective layer.

Phosphorus Ignition

Sanagi’s body has an abnormally high concentration of phosphorus, but her augmentations allow her to utilise these concentrations to fuel many of her hidden armaments. Primarily, she is capable of triggering a controlled ignition within specialised regions of her body, allowing her to generate thrust equivalent to a powerful firework or missile.

Enameled Blades
Concealed within Sanagi’s forearms are unusual arrangements of blackened bone, cartilage, sinew, and enamel, which deploy seamlessly from scars running along the outer forearm. Despite this, each is around one-and-a-half times the length of her forearm, consisting of two interconnected sections that unfold as they emerge and lock together to form a mostly straight but slightly curved formation. The outer edge is lined with fine serrations, improving their cutting power. It seems they may still have room to develop.

Origins, Birth & Early Years
Unfortunately, due to the happenstance of her current nature, much of Wells Sanagi’s history is lost to the fog of broken memories. However, there’s little to say about where she comes from. Her origins are nothing special. As the daughter of a farmer who tended fields and livestock on an island in Paradise, her education and experience were rather simple, and nothing out of the ordinary ever seemed to occur as she grew up working on the farm.

Amongst her favourite things to do was tending to the chickens. Even as a young child, she found the company of such feathered friends comforting, and even the mere action of throwing breadcrumbs to birds still eases her mind to this day. That, and one other thing: Gazing up at the stars. With her mother and father, she would often lay in the fields on clear summer nights and look at the inky vastness of the night sky, keeping an eye out for shooting stars and seeing the animals whose forms were outlined by the stars themselves.

Silver From The Stars
It was on one such starry night that Sanagi’s life would change in a way unexpected by most. Alone and enjoying the stars of her own accord after a hard day’s work on the farm, the young lady witnesses something large descending from the star-speckled heavens, landing in one of the crop fields not too far from the hill where she had been stargazing. Curious about the object and a little concerned about any potential damage to her family’s crops, she went to investigate, only to find herself in the presence of strange figures clad in bizarre silver bodysuits.

Dinner that evening was the last any of her family saw of her. Sanagi would enter the unusual care of a man known as Doctor Moreau—a former member of the renegade scientific team known as MADS—who had been unaccounted for for many years. Sanagi would become one of Moreau’s test subjects. Among an elite few individuals chosen for his bizarre experiments, Sanagi’s mind and body would be altered by the scientist’s twisted desire to create something very, very special.

The Escape…
Sanagi, now branded HG-04, would be converted into one of the ultimate biological weapons. At least, that was Moreau’s plan. A specialist in grafting and biomechanics, he had captured and manipulated specimens from across the world in his mad lust for power and progress, and little did he anticipate that his own assistant, Montgomery, would be the one to foil his plans. Concerned that Moreau’s vehemence for creating the ultimate soldiers was to the absolute detriment of all things humane, a plan was concocted.

Sanagi, sedated after a period of harsh testing, was to be returned to her chamber. Montgomery, however, had already formulated a plan. Instead of delivering her to her chamber, Montgomery put Sanagi in one of Moreau’s ship’s escape pods, along with some important things for her need, and quickly arranged as many of the remaining HG Project subjects as he could, launching their escape pods in one sweep. Although not all made it, those that did would be launched to the corners of the seas, given a chance at freedom, provided they could break free of their now utterly alien minds…
