Not The Sharpest…
Zhu Yanmei was never destined to be studious or academic, that much was decided pretty much from birth, and so she readily shows a lack of sophisticated education. Larger words tend to go over her head, their meanings lost and often misunderstood, and similarly unusual features of the language are easily mistaken for people mispronouncing much more common words incorrectly. She’s not so much naive as poorly educated, but that doesn’t stop her from trying, even if in place of razor wit she is instead armed with a hammer.
The Immovable Object
Mei has a rather unusual attitude towards most things in life, but most of all she is very set in her ways. No matter what logic or reason you throw her way, you’ll never shift her beliefs and ideals. She couldn’t care less about the opinions of others, with only one exception to that rule existing, being the opinions of her closest friends. Once she sets her mind on something, sheer determination and an iron volition will shrug off any attempts at dissuasion.
Aggressively Supportive
Miss Zhu might identify herself as a pirate, but she’s not entirely selfish. In fact, she puts a lot of faith in those who have earned her trust, even going so far as to offer her own support when they need it—and even when they don’t! Her offerings of support and inspiration to others are aggressive in their design, to the point where she can seem like she is actively threatening somebody to do well, or else…
Shameless & Blameless
Yanmei is a woman who cares very little for what people think about her, never caught up by making good first impressions and failing to see the point in modesty, assuming she even understands what that is. To many, she can seem vulgar and undignified, but she sees no point in such nuances as excessive politeness—the mark of her upbringing as a commoner.Appearance
Height:– 5’6”, approx. 167 cm
Build:– Slender, Moderate
Eye Colour:– Jade
Hair Colour:– Jet Black
Skin Tone:– Medium
Notable Features:– None
Zhu Yanmei is a woman of relatively average, somewhat slender build, standing around 5’6” tall. In terms of proportion, she isn’t anything particularly special, and generally confirms to the worldly average for her height and frame. She has a notably sun-touched, but still rather moderate skin tone.
Mei’s visage conforms to a somewhat rounded oval, with similarly rounded features including nose and eyes that give her a somewhat childish and mischievous look. Her bright eyes are a vivid jade colouration, while her jet black hair possesses a glossy sheen. Her hair is usually styled into a double bun fashion—sometimes called “odango” or “ox horns”—but features the addition of length at the back that is brushed up to form two fluffy “wings” that raise up and blow out behind the ears.
Preferred Wardrobe
Yanmei generally favours garments that are loose, but don’t hinder her movements. Tighter clothing is too restrictive and she finds it difficult to move in such garb. Although she likes brighter colours and pretty designs, she’s not averse to wearing more subdued articles of clothing, but her general rule of thumb when it comes to wardrobe options is comfort.
White Pendant
A simple pendant on a red thread worn around her neck. It consists of a white, curved teardrop that was once attached to a matching black counterpart, now worn by her childhood friend, Bai Meifeng.Other Details
Apprentice of the Flowing Palm
Mentored by an old man named Cheng, Yanmei is one of an elite few individuals in the world to have been bestowed the knowledge of this ancient, nearly completely forgotten style of martial art. However, for those elite few capable of recognising it to any degree, of which the number in the world can be counted on a single hand, Yanmei’s version of it is almost completely incomprehensible. In fact, it’s only a select few moves and the advanced techniques that she is capable of using to any recognisable degree, further masking the fact that she even knows such an art.Fighting Style
Zhu Yanmei’s fighting style is based around the concept of unarmed martial arts, and though one would expect somebody who lacks keen intellect to resort to wild punches and misguided blows, that’s actually not the case. Although she is prone to using sporadic and formless strikes due to a difficulty in understanding the most basic concepts of martial arts, she’s incredibly adept at making use of extremely complicated techniques, effectively figuring it all out through little more than trusting how it feels. Yanmei’s particular style of martial art is an adaptation of an ancient and mostly forgotten style, known as the Flowing Palm, which centres itself around the flow of energy through the user’s body and surroundings.Aspects
Abnormal Resilience
Tier ★★ / 200 X-Poinz / 1 Aspect Voucher
Toughness
For whatever reason, Yanmei is one tough cookie! Years of roughhousing and causing trouble have worked her into somebody who can more than readily withstand a beatdown, but this natural durability is less down to a bizarre anatomy and more down to an instinctual understanding of her body. Subtle muscular adjustments serve to mitigate the force of impacts, resulting in reduced damage.
Hidden Powers
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Strength
Having figured out some of the secrets of her martial art, Yanmei is able to harness her own inner energies in more direct ways, converting hyperactivity into direct physical strength. With this, she can deliver devastating blows and lift far greater weight than one would expect of her stature.
Uncanny Reactions
Tier ★★ / 200 X-Poinz / 1 Aspect Voucher
Reflexes
Yanmei’s natural reaction times were initially very slow, but years of trial and error and a fair share of honing her instincts have sharpened them to unusual degrees. Though she might not be a particularly bright individual, this mental emptiness allows her to respond to stimuli on a subtle level that most humans just cannot seem to fathom, reacting much faster than normal.
Rapid Assault
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Dexterity (Attack Speed)
Although she may not always be fast on her feet, Yanmei is still a speedy individual. Hyperactivity of a kind translates itself well to the ability to move hands and feet in swift coordination, allowing her to defend and strike opponents at a much higher speed and frequency than most people are capable of.
Receptive Earth
☷
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Impact Mitigation
An internalising (⚋) discipline of the Flowing Palm style which allows Yanmei to mitigate the impact of attacks and falls by redistributing the flow of kinetic force into and through her body, accumulating the energies in a steadied manner. This reduces the overall impact she takes from blows, which can be used to increase her natural resilience.
Abysmal Water
☵
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Flow Transference
An internalising (⚋) discipline of the Flowing Palm style in which Yanmei can redirect the flow of energy through her body in order to better distribute her power. This enables her to greatly increase her attack power by directing energy flow through her body, effectively increasing her power retention between attacks by transferring excess energy that would otherwise be wasted into a different limb.
Clinging Flame
☲
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Radiated Energy
An externalising (⚊) discipline of the Flowing Palm style. Yanmei can channel the energy coursing through her body outwards with enough force that it radiates like invisible flame, causing a visible shimmering across the surface of her body. This discipline allows Yanmei’s strikes to make contact in a wider area than her body would normally allow, as the energy starts to spread through and damage the target even before she makes contact.
Gentle Wind
☴
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Penetrating Energy
An externalising (⚊) discipline of the Flowing Palm style in which Yanmei can actively transmit the kinetic force behind her attacks through a target medium in order to strike far deeper, penetrating conventional external defences and guarding techniques as the winds envelop and pierce through a person’s body.Techniques

二重返拳
“Twofold Return Fist”
1 Technique Voucher
Using “Hidden Powers”, “Rapid Assault”, “Gentle Wind”
One of the most basic principle techniques of the Flowing Palm style: Drawing from the externalising Gentle Wind discipline, Yanmei delivers a swift straight punch to an opponent’s body, directing the flow of energy from her core and into their own to deliver a powerful punch that readily passes through external defences to strike the target through and through. Those who experience the technique liken it to being punched straight through their body.
Notable Variations

四重返拳
“Fourfold Return Fist”
1 Technique Voucher
Using “Hidden Powers”, “Rapid Assault”, “Clinging Flame”, “Gentle Wind”
An advanced version of the aforementioned “Èr Chóngfǎn Quán” technique: By implementing her understanding of the Clinging Flame discipline, Yanmei further amplifies the destructive force of the technique by causing the impact to spread outwards from within the target body, devastating the opponent from within. Opponents who receive this attack liken it to being struck four times in rapid succession from a variety of impossible angles.

Buffs “Hidden Powers” to Tier ★★ via “Abysmal Water”
By channelling the flow of energy through her body, Yanmei directs an open palm strike towards her opponent, flooding her palm with accumulated energy to strike them with incredible force and knock them back, as if they had been hit by a surging flood.

“Flooding Palm: Deluge”

Using “Rapid Assault”, “Abysmal Water”
A variation of “Fànlàn Shǒuzhǎng” in which Yanmei continuously redirects the flow of energy through her body after each palm thrust, unleashing a rapid and continuous flurry of slightly less powerful by still quite devastating strikes in an attempt to keep her target locked down under a flood of strikes as she pushes them back, inch by inch. Although it lacks her usual strength in exchange for rapid attacks, the impacts are still reinforced by the enhanced power of the Abysmal Water discipline.

吸收体
“Absorbing Body”
1 Technique Voucher
Using “Abnormal Resilience”, “Uncanny Reactions”, “Receptive Earth”
A principle technique of the Receptive Earth discipline: Coupling her natural resilience and reactivity with the ability to disperse kinetic forces through her body, Yanmei can respond to incoming impacts and effectively absorb the brunt of the blow without taking anywhere near as much direct damage as she feasibly should. Instead, the impact is redistributed to the point of the maximum possible mitigation, effectively allowing Yanmei to soak up lesser impacts and endure heavier blows by reducing the pressure concentration that would normally cause damage. Although this can work through her entire body, the technique does not make her indestructible, though an attacker may compare the sensation of striking her to as if they are doing little more than pushing into soft earth.

“Dragon Stomp”
1 Technique Voucher
Using “Hidden Powers”, “Abysmal Water”, “Clinging Flame”
Buffs “Hidden Powers” to Tier ★★ via “Abysmal Water”
A powerful technique belonging to the Flowing Palm style: Raising a leg, Yanmei channels all of her excess energy into her foot as she brings it down, causing it to propagate outwards as she stomps down upon her target. This not only results in a much more powerful attack than anticipated, but also causes the energy to radiate outwards in such a way that the ground itself may crack and rupture due to the impact as she forces the energy flow. Because this technique couples an internalising (⚋) discipline with an externalising (⚊) discipline that are in complete opposition, all accumulated energies are dispersed. Background

Origins, Birth & Early Years
Zhu Yanmei began life as a child of a common family residing in a small fishing village on the coast of her homeland. A family of regular nobodies, perhaps the only thing that made Yanmei at least a little unique was the fact that she was the only daughter of a sibling count of half a dozen. Surrounded by older brothers and later gaining another half a dozen younger brothers over the earlier years of her life, Yanmei grew up getting used to the roughhousing associated with boisterous siblings and, as a result, would become quite boisterous herself.
When she was nine years of age, Yanmei was independent enough to wander the streets of the village. Her eldest brothers usually stayed home to take care of the youngest siblings while their mother and father worked for much of the daylight hours in order to provide some semblance of life to their countless progeny. This left Yanmei with enough freedom to do as she wanted and experience the world, and it was during this time that she would meet two people who would change her life.
The Lady & The Tramp
Curious as she was, Yanmei’s attention would be drawn by two visitors to their village: A tall, calm, but commanding figure by the name of Huizhong, and a young girl of similar age to herself with white hair, named Bai Meifeng. Where the young Meifeng was a shy and reclusive soul of aristocratic upbringing, Yanmei was a complete contrast, but somehow was able to break the ice despite a common upbringing, establishing the early days of a friendship that would eventually make the two of them near enough inseparable, save for the back and call of highborn heritage.
As the years went by and Yanmei grew more independent, Meifeng’s upbringing would make her less so in contrast, but that certainly didn’t stop the two of them from continuing to treasure their bond. One thing had become obvious to Yanmei, which was Meifeng’s apparent lack of a real dream, but it was clear to the latter that the former had dreams of grandeur. Curious and adventurous from the moment they had met, Yanmei’s unguided energies needed somewhere to go, and that would eventually be an interest in piracy.
Wouldn’t That Be Queen…?
As Yanmei grew older, she developed a deep interest in adventuring across the seas of the world, and the concept of becoming King of the Pirates truly enticed her. The idea that somebody could truly be so free was baffling, but greater still was the prospect of being able to do as she wanted on her quest to become that thing: The freedom of exploring a greater world. Despite the worry that Meifeng would not approve due to her ties to the nation’s upper classes and the interactions with the World Government, all worries were quashed, and the two would meet one last time to say their goodbyes and make an important promise to one another, symbolised by the two broken halves of a charm.
And that was when Yanmei set off. If only sailing was that easy. Yanmei’s early attempts at finding crew and sailing the seas were difficult. She wasn’t intelligent. She wasn’t skilled. She wasn’t useful. Crews simply would not have her and those that she tried to recruit just ignored her attempts, seeing her as little more than a helpless dreamer who would sooner get herself killed than accomplish anything great. Eventually, disheartened and stranded, she considered giving up on her dreams, were it not for one strange man.
The Journey Of One Thousand Miles!
Cheng, a wizened practitioner of an old martial art style long forgotten, saw something in young Zhu Yanmei, though to this day perhaps even he cannot confirm what that something was. Either way, despite her inability to understand his complex philosophies, he noted one thing about her that made her worthwhile: She had a surprisingly keen intuition when it came to the advanced principles of the Flowing Palm style. But when it came to the basics of the basics, she always seemed to flounder.
Training was difficult and tedious, but somehow the young woman was able to advance in ways that Cheng simply could not have expected. Months passed and eventually her mentor told her that he had taught her enough. If she could not find her own way from here on out, then surely that was breaking a promise she had made so long ago? If she could not find her own way, then she could not hope to dream about becoming King of the Pirates. That was more than enough to spur Yanmei into action again, rekindling embers into a roaring flame as she set out to sea once again.
No matter how many times she failed, no matter how many times she lost, Zhu Yanmei would always be ready to get back up and try again…
