Okay, pretty sure I'm doing this right. Anyway, I want to improve my character's backstory a bit so he has more to him.
New Personality traits-
Character: Azriel Ward
New Personality traits-
Mother Obsessed
Desiring Knowledge
When his mother died, she didn’t really die to him. As an unfortunate side effect of his mother raising him to be safe, he was pretty heavily dependent on her. As such, he never let himself fully grieve her death, focusing on ways to keep her alive with him. But the downside to this was he practically made her a saint in his mind, an incorruptible vision of perfection he refuses to let others even try to taint.
Desiring Knowledge
Even with his fear/hatred of the outside world. Azriel is curious. Not so much of the world the way it is, but the way the world used to be. Believing if the World Government wanted to keep things a secret, they must be something worth finding out. As such he has two pieces of information he wants to learn more than anything else. The Void Century, and what happened to the Lunarians.
Edited Backstory-
Growing up with his mother, Azriel knew one thing above all else. To stay hidden, and keep his flame extinguished. For you see, his mother was from the race known as the Lunarians. She herself had her wings cut off and her hair colored in an attempt to hide. Frequently growing up she told the young Azriel that he was ‘blessed’ that he never grew his wings. As long as he kept his fire extinguished, almost no one would really look at him twice.
Disaster sadly struck the family one day when Azriel’s mother feel ill. No one outside her son knew why she refused to leave to find a doctor, but other people on the island believed that had she sought out medical help, she would have survived. Now alone in the world at the age of 12, Azriel had no real direction in his life. His primary concern was to keep his mother’s teachings, to remain hidden from the world, alive. Her death would permanently scar young Azriel, keeping his face hidden in a way to keep her practice of remaining covered, and thus a piece of her, alive.
Things would continue to worsen for the young orphan as Marine deployment, under the command of a corrupt and greedy captain, would subjugate the island. Taxes where risen and collected in a barely legitimate protection racket, and most supplies coming to the island where confiscated for private use. Eventually, Azriel grew fed up with living under the yoke of the corrupt Marine. Sneaking into the new mansion built for the captain, he stole a rare black sword and slayed the Marine, barely managing to escape afterwards.
Leading into his adulthood, Azriel needed a trade to make himself useful when his crude combat skills didn’t pay the bills. So, he began to learn. Learning anything about the way the world used to be in particular. Slowly and surely, he became better and more knowledgeable. While he would never pass as a scholar of Ohara, he was still good enough to mark him as important. But, he also managed to learn of the Poneglyphs, and the ultimate secrets they hid. Wanting to challenge the organization that ruined so much more of the life that he already saw adrift, he even began to study them, beginning to even learn to read them
