Personality
Leonard, or Leo for short, is a very relaxed person. He doesn't like stressing over small things or even big ones for that matter. But that is not to say he's careless, the young man carefully thinks about his actions before acting and goes for the safer plans rather than just charging in… most of the time.
Leonard does his best to be of help to those in need he comes across, lending a hand without question or consequences if asked. Leo relies mostly on his instinct towards people and will do his best to read people he comes across in travel.
Not prone to anger Leonard will keep a cool head under most circumstances, in fact the young man may seem more expressionless and less talkative the more dire the situation is. Cold eyes and speech are the true indication of LeClerc’s rage, not screaming and shouting. Very few things however would make this man angry, hurting people he cares about and true acts of cruelty are about all that would do it.
Despite arguing that he has a peaceful nature Leonard enjoys fighting very much, often smiling and complimenting his opponents for their abilities. Holding immense respect for people’s combat skill, Leonard wants to find his place in the world through his own strength to rise to the heights many have reached before and inspire future generations like so many legends had inspired him before.
In general Leonard will do his best to get his point across through words and charisma, which has worked for him in most cases so far. Leo makes a point to keep eye contact with people he talks to, a fact some may find slightly unnerving.
The illusion of the seeming ability of Leonard to stare into people’s souls is often disrupted by the young man’s inability to actually keep his attention on one thing for too long and getting distracted by the most innocuous things like a good book, a strange sight or tasty food.
Yet the most important part of Leonard would in one word be “wanderlust”. LeClerc wants to see and experience everything there is to see in the world. This wanting to be free and unshackled has guided most of his choices in life to roam the seas and experience what lies beyond the horizon first hand, that is what life is truly about!
Appearance
Leo has black eyes and black hair that goes to about ear length which he parts in the middle and keeps out of his eyes with a black hair band that covers his forehead. He's got a fairly muscular build but is not a huge hulk of muscle. An apt description would simply be fit, with naturally broad shoulders making seem bigger than he actually is. Overall he's what would most call, handsome with sharp features. Leonard usually dresses in a sleeveless black shirt with the collar opened, baggy black trousers and boots. He can also be seen carrying his nodachi sword, in a black scabbard with light blue wrapping around the handle and simple unornamented circular cross-guard in almost all circumstances.
Fighting Style
満月流 - Mangetsu-Ryuu [Full Moon Style]: A style of swordsmanship originating from the Wano Kuni that Leonard has learned from his maternal Grandfather. The Mangetsu-ryuu focuses on speed and power while confusing the opponents with the length of the sword that does not match the style. Mangetsu-ryuu also holds the secret to incredible “Flying Slashes” that evoke the phases of the Moon.
Coal Fighting: Using the power of his Devil Fruit Leonard is developing ways to fight by projecting and manipulating Coal in combat.

Blood Of the Samurai
Whether apocryphal or not, many believe the Samurai of Wano to be “built different”, whether it is truly in the blood or result of incredible determination and training, Leonard has inherited these traits from his maternal Grandfather. The Physical Training fundamentals of the Mangetsu-ryuu being explained by Zatoshi with the term “Tetsugekka” or Iron, Moon and Fire representing the three aspects of the Body. With “Kouyaka” or Sky, Night and Flower representing the three Spiritual Aspects required of a true master of the Blade.

The second aspect of the body. One must become as swift as the Moon soaring through the sky and as uncatchable as its reflection upon water to reach the peak of the Way of the Sword. The third aspect of the body. One must have the power to break through one’s enemy as the raging flame through the forest to reach the peak of the Way of the Sword. Through years of conditioning Leonard’s physical strength has reached levels far beyond what anyone would call normal.

The first aspect of the spirit. Distance means nothing, the only thing between the blade and its target is the will of the wielder to cut. Under the Sky and the Great Moon, nothing cannot be cut. Through speed and power Leonard has learned to let his attacks carry on past the normal reach of his blade by forming vacuums and shaping his attacks into compressed blades of air that can curve in unusual ways.

Out on the sea Leonard has relying more on more on his perception and instinct both in and out of battle honing his senses well beyond what would be considered the ability of a normal human.

Aspects: Iron, Moon, Fire, Sky A technically “original” technique of Leonard, in so far as it is not part of the traditional moveset of the Mangetsu-ryuu, instead this technique is an emulation of Marcus Rhodes signature technique. Leonard braces himself and swings down with all his power creating a raging flying slash more akin to a gale of destruction than a flying slash. It takes all of Leonard’s Strength, endurance, speed and control to fire off the attack and not get blown back himself by the force of the blow.

Mother - Kairi LeClerc:
Kairi very much raised her son by herself. She was always kind and smiling yet despite that she could on occasion be terrifying when angry, especially if she kept smiling. She is also not a woman to be underestimated as she spent her childhood and teenage years travelling from Wano in the New World to the West Blue with her father.
Maternal Grandfather - Zatoshi:
Leonard's grandfather was the one who taught him everything he knows about the world and fighting. Leonard actually knows little of his grandfather's life, only that he comes from a country far into the Grand Line and that in his youth he was quite a renown fighter but that was so long ago barely anyone would remember it now.
Childhood Friend/First Love - Maya Saga: A no nonsense girl that always tried to keep the boys in check. She learned Naginata-jutsu basics from Zatoshi but it was mostly from Kairi she learned more advanced skills before leaving the island. She and Leo always had a thing for one another but her strict attitude and Leonard's thickness prevented anything from ever blossoming.
Childhood Friend - Arno Saga: The exact opposite of his twin sister, Arno is rough and hot headed but he always has good intentions. Do not even look at his sister wrong or he'll tear you apart. The only exceptions to that rule are Leonard and Renaud, whom he considers family, never realising the other two boys had feelings for his sister. Arno never learned any weapon skills favouring hand to hand combat, which Zatoshi beat into him.
Childhood Best Friend/Rival - Renaud N. Toroen: This was Leonard's best friend for most of his life. The two were always together and were so similar in personality that some actually mistook them for brothers. For many years Renaud tried to convince Leo to get on board with his Marine plans but the other boy never listened. So the two promised to meet on the seas one day, neither of them knowing the path Leonard would later take in life. Renaud learned to wield a standard katana from Zatoshi, as the Nodachi forms were a family secret.
History:
Leo's father was a merchant in Toroa, Christopher LeClerc who one day ran into a wandering swordsman from Wano Kuni and his daughter. Zatoshi was injured and realised he would not be able to get back to his homeland, desperate he began to wander Toroa for help. He found it in Christopher who agreed to let the swordsman and his daughter stay with him. Christopher and Kairi quickly fell in love and got married. They eventually had a child whom they named Leonard.
However this perfect life only lasted until Leo was 5 years old. One day some nobleman wanted to take some valuable merchandise from Christopher's shop for only a fraction of the price but Leo's father would have none of it, so the nobleman killed Christopher right on the spot. Everyone knew who had done it but none dared to say a word in fear of repercussion.
Leonard found solace in both his training and his friends. Three other kids that always hung around the shop because Christopher would give them candy. When they heard what happened to the kind shopkeeper they went to the newly orphaned boy and all swore that when they grew up they would make things better for everyone. This really was the doing of Renaud, the boy was actually of a noble family of Toroa while the other two, Arno and Maya were actually children of the family that served Renaud's. The four children spent their days playing, training under Zatoshi's tutelage and dreaming of their future. However as the years went by a small rift began to grow. Renaud soon decided he would abandon his nobility to become a Marine and the two Saga children had every intention of following, but that was not the case for LeClerc. When the time came and his childhood friends left Toroa, Leonard saw them off, swearing they would meet again, after refusing Renaud's offer to join him one last time.
As the years progressed Leo further learned swordsmanship from his grandfather while his mother minded the shop. And so the years went on somewhat peacefully, the training was hard but fulfilling and Leo also helped his mother as often as he could. The more time passed the more Leo felt restrained on the island of his birth. He wanted to see the world and all it had to offer. So the young man carefully began to plan his travels. He'd need to learn about navigation and get a boat. So Leo's careful, if somewhat slow, preparations began.
Leo is now 20 years old and with only a small boat, his navigational skills, a sword and his mother's blessing, the young man went off on his adventures upon the blue seas. What awaited him? Nobody knew, but Leo couldn't wait to see what lay beyond the horizon.
