The Hurry Amidst a Hurricane! Kaal and Sophie!

[Instinct]

    Charity work was never a focus of Kaal's inter-blue travels, but, when the opportunity arose for it, he could never turn it down.

    Or at least, this present version of him never could. Back when he was but a foolish youth, Kaal naught but batted an eye at the desperate cries of the needy, preferring to focus more on the action he could find across the seas rather than those left in dire straits in the wake of such constant action. Soon following the Grand Line incident that left him both humbled and horrified at his clear yet ultimately fatal flaws, Kaal's mentality change included that of a bias toward generosity, something that now guides him out of the way to help wherever he believes help may be needed.

    Which was why he was now taking the time out of his already practically packed schedule to help with the evacuation of a town populace in light of a raging hurricane coming upon the town proper. He had been in the middle of his rendezvous return visit from his final mercenary job and was hoping to get back to Ikra's side by the end of the day, but after seeing the disorganized mess that was this town's attempt at hurrying their people out of the way of the oncoming hurricane, Kaal couldn't see any good reason why he should simply stand by.

    And so, Kaal soon found himself corraling the panicked population out of harms way for a good hour or two. Helping women and children first and foremost in getting to a safe distance away as the rest of the remaining men aided in much of the same. The procedure was going relatively swimmingly apart from the still-constant sea of scared faces threatening to trample him underneath every now and then.

    At least, that's what the former military man initially thought, until a distraught display of disarray suddenly caught his eye from amidst the surging crowd of people. Quickly descending upon what he would soon see was a pair of mother and child, Kaal's brow furrowed in worry as he saw the mother cradling her unconscious daughter in her arms. Sensing (and preparing) for the worst, Kaal motioned for the two to follow him, and he quickly cut through the cluster of citizens and out toward the outer edges of the town proper.

    Out amidst the outer edges of the town, Kaal recalled seeing several field hospitals set up- for what purpose? He wasn't particularly sure. All the sandy haired shepherd really knew was that where there were hospitals, there was most likely help- help more qualified than what he could provide for the mother-daughter duo.

    Beelining it to the first encampment that caught his eye, Kaal herded the mother and daughter right outside of the entrance- throwing open the entrance to the mini-hospital as he said aloud in an urgent, yet steadied tone befitting that of a former marine, "This woman needs help with her daughter- and considering the former's hysterics, I would assume it's a matter of utmost urgency!"

"Don't mean to bother ya, Doc
But cap's been on the mushi again, and apparently the storm is gonna hit sooner than we thought?
He's saying you've got one hour to pack up and get outta here?"

“An hour?” The brow of the blonde seeming to pique as one of her adjutants poked their head into the tent which they had set up and brought anything but good news with them as they did so, Sophie Shaw found her long lashes flapping for a moment as she was handed a deadline which was far tighter than she ever might have expected given the nature of her mission here, and quickly let that blue gaze run over the scene about her as she wondered just how well she might be able to meet it.
We might need to leave a few things behind, but we should have time to grab the important stuff? The tent still packed with supplies from this little effort of relief as well as those for whom they had been brought, the fair femme had been happy to come to a country down on its luck of recent times in order to offer treatment and humanitarian aid, and was glad to see that most of the patients who remained with her were only there for continuing observation and nothing more serious than that.

“We better get to it, then. Make sure these people are loaded first and foremost?” Still offering up priority to them over any of the boxes of syringes and scalpels as was only natural, she knew all too well that the boat they were headed to was packed with fresh supplies and the wealth of the government could replace any material which was lost, but not the lives nor the happiness of those who lived them so readily.
“Speaking of, how's the progress of the civilian evacuation? Hopefully we've-” For that reason the blue eyed beauty placing great emphasis upon those who were caught up in this torrid region, it seemed that their luck had truly left them to have been struck by a wave of illness and then the course of a hurricane none too long afterward, and frankly the fox was starting to wonder if they might need to concern themselves with locusts or the sacrifice of firstborns soon after. However, it seemed that she had more important things to think about when someone new burst into her room.

Barely even bothering to register who it was who had marched into her tent in the middle of an evacuation and demanded help for a little girl, the vision of the vixen instead leapt toward the frail figure whom had been brought to her and could immediately see that there was some distress being caused upon her, even in the fraction of a moment she was offered.
“Get her onto the table…!” For that reason the doctor wasting nary a moment as she swept up a pair of gloves and her stethoscope and then marched over to the desk she had been organize this effort, realising that she had no empty or clean beds she swept any obstacle from it in one fluid motion in order to offer the small shape a place to be inspected, and as she waited she rolled her coat into a pillow as well…

Post Summary

Having set up a tent as a field hospital, Sophie is monitoring her remaining patients as she gets the order to evacuate in an hour due to a hurricane. Prioritising the need of her patients, she requests her fellows ferry them out first, hoping she has time to save them if not the equipment. Acting quickly in the face of her newest admission, with no beds available she sweeps the items off her desk to act as a replacement, and directs this stranger to lay the girl upon it…

    Good- someone with a sense of exigency. Kaal was half worried he'd have to do the necessary procedures himself with what he's experienced today. Thankfully, however, there appeared to be people other than himself prepared to do whatever was required to ensure everyone got their fair share of quality care.

    Moving quickly, but carefully, Kaal gently took the torpid child in a cradle-like hold, carrying her over to the hastily cleared table and putting her on top of the bare work surface as evenly as he could. Tapping his chin, the sandy haired public servant looked around the room for a couple of seconds, eyeing down an unused table of supplies that quickly came into his vision. Specifically, the table cloth that the surface was covered by. 

    Plucking it directly off the table, Kaal picked up the child once more as the woman who ordered to place the patient onto the work surface presumably got all of her things in order. Spreading the taken napery all around the hard worktop, he hoped to make the thing at least a little more comfortable for the child to sleep upon as the medical professional next to him did her work.
    
    Normally, this would be the part where he'd up and go make himself useful elsewhere- however, considering the nature of this particular situation, Kaal felt compelled to stay and watch, whilst also extending a helping hand wherever he could. Positioning himself next to the fellow blonde busy-body, Kaal glanced from her to the patient at hand, muttering in a low, concerned, yet still very much composed tone, "I found the child with her mother amidst the crowd of people still flowing out of the bulk of the main part of town. The child was already unconscious when I got to them, and I made sure to guide the both of them here as soon as possible. If I were to estimate the time of the visit, I would hazard a guess at about- fifteen, twenty minutes?"

    Hoping the added detail would help illustrate the seriousness of the situation and whatever the woman would need to do in response, Kaal started to look around again, gently brushing his hand across the woman's shoulder in an attempt to get her attention as he asked, "Is there anything you'd like for me to be doing while you perform your necessary duties? I wish not to be a bother, but, not necessarily an inactive body simultaneously. We, are on somewhat of a stressed timetable after all."

“I'm sure the chief here could make use of an extra pair of hands?” The blue eyes of the blonde belle seeming to jerk between the patient and the people around her, though Sophie certainly felt a note of appreciation toward the stranger for the charity he had shown in helping this girl and her mother ultimately he had brought something which demanded her full focus, and as such for the time being had to hand him off to the service of the figure who had informed her of her deadline.
“Assuming you have no issue shuttling stretchers?” Certain that any volunteer would be useful toward the effort to get those who couldn't move under their own steam onto the boat, she showed the new face a soft smile before she returned her attention toward the soul who so desperately needed it, and set to diagnosing her.

Yikes… Quite a fever, clearly. Immediately lifting her hand the forehead of the youngster and wincing a little as she felt the blaze within the brow, her fingers darted to the carotid artery of the girl next, and she looked toward the watch on her wrist as she gauged both the pace and pressure of the pulse she found.
Heart rate is a little elevated and thready… Nothing too severe though? Frowning slightly as she found it seeming just that little bit underwhelming given the state of the girl, though there was definite indication that something was amiss from even this the symptoms thus far did not seem to resemble the plague she had been brought here to cure, and so she had to assume that it was something else.

An infection, but what kind…? The temperature of the small soul the biggest concern thus far and the tell-tale indication of something which was wreaking havoc upon her system, the vision of the vixen narrowed as she began to look the lass over for sign of a festering injury based on what she had been presented with, but could see no obvious breaks on her skin nor stains of blood either.
“Are you this girl's guardian? I may need you to answer some questions…” For that reason sensing that the figure with whom the girl was delivered might just prove her most invaluable diagnostic tool, and so she appealed to the woman for the help she needed to discern the problem sooner rather than later. After all, when something had robbed a patient of their consciousness, every moment was critical, wasn't it~?
