Michael #1
“Loki?”
The lawyer asked, his hand raised in guard, ready to strike against any possible intruder.
“Loki, where are you buddy?”
Moving quickly through the hall of his house, Michael found himself in the living room.
“There you are you sleep head.”
He smiled, noticing his tabby cat lying in the chair with his head peacefully resting on the front paws. His smile however faded as he realised that he was lying there way too still.
“Loki…”
The lawyer wasn´t one who would express his emotion publicly, but that didn´t mean the lost of his oldest friend wouldn´t hit him hard.
He still remembered it as if it happened yesterday. The rainy evening, twenty two years ago, when his eight years old self found a little kitten in a bush near his home. It was abandoned, shaking from cold and fear, so he took it home. He was already running late that day, so it cost him some beating from his mom, but he managed to sneak little Loki into his room and hide him long enough for him to start catching mice, proving his usefulness to the constantly drunken woman.
From that day onwards, Loki was always there for him. He helped him through his studies, first murder, accompanied him during his run from West to East Blue, for 22 years, whenever he came home Michael was welcomed by his clingy cat and his loud purring. But not anymore.
The lawyer sat next to his friends for minutes, silent tears running down his cheeks while his mind was offering him memories of time the two of them spent together, his hand running through the soft fur for the last time.
Then, without saying a word Michael took Loki to his garden and dug him grave under an old cherry tree he loved so much. Tomorrow he will commission him a proper memorial for today, simple cross made of wood would have to do.
