For what it was worth, Tedd nodded to Gabriel, although it wouldn’t be seen since the man didn’t even look his way when addressing him.
Nellie, on the other hand, was given such a warm smile that her cheeks flushed and she smiled back. Perhaps it was the similarity in his smile to his half brother’s, or the man was simply equally charming.
“Thank you, Mr Moon, that’s very generous of you,” she uttered and looked back at Tedd with a pleased look in her eyes.
Theodore nodded in agreement to Nellie’s words, but he didn’t like any of this and wished more than anything that they had never come here. Michael alone was very unnerving, to see his behaviour reflected in this other man was also unsettling. This uneasy feeling was interrupted by Eponine’s hair that whipped through the air and struck him in the face, however.
His frown growing, he turned his head to shake it off his face, but remained silent as he followed her and the others toward rooms. Wishing to warn Nellie not to be too trusting toward them, he stepped closer to her, only to find that Michael had also moved closer on the other side, causing him to stop before he’d even start as it would be impossible to whisper to her without being heard or at least noticed.
Tedd’s discomfort could be felt by the empathic Nellie, as she quickly looked worried herself. Yet, unlike Tedd, having Michael close by was comforting to her.
“Oh…” she blushed at the thought of knocking on Michael’s door in the middle of the night, as Eponine suggested. Perhaps not that close. “I’m sure that won’t be necessary, I will be alright. Thank you!”
When it was Tedd’s sleeping arrangements that came to be discussed, the man’s eye twitched. Was he in a position to complain? No… did that mean he had to be grateful? That wasn’t entirely true either. His teeth clenched, he offered a calm and patient smile to Eponine, but the glance he passed toward Michael told a different story. If he could pierce a dagger through his heart right there and then, he’d have done it.
“I would rather Mr Tedd and I were closer, if it’s possible, please… I’ve travelled a long way to meet him and we have so much catching up to do. If that's alright.” Nellie was the one who made the request, to Tedd’s surprise.
“I won’t be needing any fancy accommodation - blankets to make a quick futon style arrangement will be enough,” He added, hoping it would be enough to convince them.
