Bee Bee had been so focused on getting off the island that he hadn’t really considered what he would do when he actually did. He’d been lucky so far in that there had been no storms or even especially big waves. His tiny raft basically only fit him and was just big enough to support his weight without threat of tipping over when he sat on the side. He regretted not bringing food. Or fresh water. Or something to keep him shaded from the sun’s rays. As it stood, he was thirsty, hungry, hot, and miserable, laying eagle spread on his raft.
He was uncomfortably hot. He’d splashed his face with water to try to cool off, but it only helped a little. He dozed in and out of consciousness, in a state between sleep and waking for hours. He didn’t dream, and it wasn’t very restful sleep. Rolling over, Bee Bee cast his eyes to the sky. It was blue, but empty and devoid of any birds. He’d kind of thought that the next island would just be a hop and skip away. Not how it worked as it turned out.
With a soft groan, Bee Bee pushed himself up. His sunburned skin complained as it stretched and compressed. He rubbed the back of his head and glanced up at the horizon, making out a singular form relatively nearby. A ship.
…
A ship?!
Bee Bee shot to his feet and started waving and shouting frantically.
“HEY!! OI!!! OVER HERE!!”
Bee Bee waved harder when it seemed like they were about to pass by without seeing him, and ended up toppling over the edge of the raft as it flipped over, dunking him into the water.
