While the subcaptain lay dead or unconscious in the sand, the next thing for Shinsei to do was to find a way back up onto the ship’s deck. An easy solution was promptly provided, as a second familiar face popped into view over the banister, the tribesman peering down toward Shinsei before he threw down a rope for him to climb up.
Taking the end of that rope, Shinsei bound the subcaptain’s arms and legs, just in case. It was clear that this man was a cyborg or something other than a regular human and there was no telling how much more it could take to keep him down. Then he began his climb up the side of the ship…
The sudden barrage from the devil fruit user was nearly impossible for the captain to keep up with, his head whipping to the side as he was struck in the face. As she explained her speed, his attention was anywhere but on her words as he continued to shoot at her, aimlessly, his panic and shock taking over.
The next thing that he felt was searing pain pulse through his injured arm as her little hand pressed against his wound. Like a winged monster, Kayla towered over him, her wings doing all the work as the rest of her body cast its shadow and blotted out the sun. A man who started out as a ruthless captain with no remorse for his wicked deeds was now reduced to a pleading worm, staring up at his executioner with terror in his eyes.
With one arm completely useless, he didn’t stand a chance against a woman who had four fully functional and very capable ones. His struggle was futile as he desperately squirmed and tried to get away from her, his only defence completely shattered.
Perhaps freeing his hand would have been useful, but to the captain’s horror, he found that his grasp on his pistol simply wouldn’t relent. Peeling his eyes away from Kayla’s face, he found that her own grip was keeping his fingers there, wrapped around his weapon and slowly twisting it to redirect its aim at his own head instead of hers.
“No… no, don’t, please!” Captain Wyatt’s eyes were wide as he pleaded with her to stop what she was doing as his voice shook, “I’ll let them go, all of them, please-”
With a click and a loud bang, the captain’s cries were silenced and his body lost all the will to keep itself upright. Gravity doing its work, his body weight pulled him down as his muscles relaxed and he fell to the floor, lifeless.
Shinsei made it to the taffrail and he climbed over the railing, allowing himself a moment to stand there, hunched forward with his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. It didn’t take him long to start wheezing and coughing, an effect of all his smoking, no doubt. A pat on his shoulder from the tribesman and a glimpse of his young saviour’s face was enough for the cyborg to will himself into a quicker recovery, however, as he straightened up and took a deep breath.
“Okay… where’s Kayla?” he looked around, unsure of who was at the end of the barrel when the gun went off, the stillness that followed deeply unnerving. Shinsei made his way to the upper deck to make sure Kayla was not gravely harmed.
Upon reaching the scene, his gaze instantly dropped to the unmoving body of Captain Wyatt, then at his winged companion once more.
“Glad you’re still alive…”
