[Lanza Island Chain: Marine Base G-6]
Civilization Name: Marine Base G-6/Leleune Town
Location: Bear Route, Grand Line
Size: A small group of mountains that peek out above sea-level, the gaps between are only just large enough for small craft to sail through. The circle of five major peaks and a few smaller islands forms a natural bulwark against the tides and storms of the Bear Route. The tallest peak nearly reaches the low-hanging clouds, with the rest descending in size in semi-regular step to the smallest peak at about 1000 feet above sea level.
Log Pose Time: 1 Week
Climate: The mountainous chain is heavily windy, although this mostly applies to the outside of the island's barrier peaks. This side is windy, rough, and absent most vegetation or plant life. The lee of the crescent-shaped bay is much calmer, with a generally temperate climate
Climatic Type: Fall Island
Affiliation: World Government Marine Base
Landmarks
Peak 1: Marine Base G-6: The headquarters and main buildings of the Marine Base, the day-to-day running and command of the majority of marines upon the island chain is headed by Vice Admiral Phineas Wermengard from this location. G-6 Command is set within the peak of the highest of the five mountains. The Vice Admiral's office has a balcony which looks down upon the harbor.
Peak 2: Marine Science Division: Also known as the Paradise Research Labs, this location is home to many of the Marine's Research teams for the first half of the Grand Line. It is commanded by Rear Admiral Flynn Toctic, and his 23rd Division "C.H.I.M.E.R.A." Corps. It is located on the second-highest peak, and is home to Project Cazador, Project Subrosa, and many others.
Peak 3: Quarantined Lab, or "The Cursed Peak" Formerly home to the now classified and defunct Project BIOS. This project was intended to create biological weapons for the Marines, but an event 9 years ago lead to the peak going silent overnight, and several teams going missing within before the peak was locked off. Despite an expedition to discover the truth of the incident, the peak is still home to valuable tech and dangerous monsters.
Peak 4: Testing Grounds: This peak is actually a step-mesa, with a fair amount of usable land around it. As such, it has been designated as a training and testing ground for the science division. On any given day, it can either be quiet and calm or rife with the sounds of military technology being tried out. Occasionally, Pirates will try to hide out here to wait out the week required for the Log Pose to reset. There's rumors of a secret cache of log poses hidden somewhere in the grounds, stowed away with the expectation that any pirate who finds it will take one and leave one.
Peak 5: Leleune Town: The smallest of the peaks, Leleune Town is the settlement where Marine's families, food vendors and bars, and all the typical accoutrement that a soldier of the world government wants close at hand. A fairly bustling city, it acts as both lodgings for the family of Marines, a source of nearby leave for off-duty soldiers, and as a stop for civilian traffic to drop off supplies and other essential business. It sits on the very end of the southern tip of the crescent, and any non-Government ship is forbidden from sailing further in. Pirates on this route are faced with the difficult challenge of remaining incognito for a full week, as the selling of set Log Poses is a crime met with immediate imprisonment. So naturally, they're very very expensive and you need to know where to look.
Inhabitants
Marine Garrison: The base is garrisoned by between 10,000 and 15,000 marines at any given time. Of these, about 200 are Captain or in some cases Commodore. There are generally a handful of Rear Admirals, as well as Vice Admiral Wermengard.
- Vice Admiral Phineas Wermengard: A boisterous, loud, and overly macho man with a proud mustache, the Vice Admiral serves as the base's commander. The Vice Admiral does not have a large amount of political sway in Marine HQ, and was sent predominantly to get him out of the way. All things considered, while he is strong, he is fairly low on the food chain as Vice Admirals are concerned in terms of politics. This doesn't bother him much, however. The Vice Admiral is a pure brute force combatant, operating on fist and muscle alone. That doesn't mean one should underestimate him, however.
-Commodore Allen Nethogs:
Second-in-command of the base, Allen Nethogs is a skinny man, he lacks the bulk of many higher ranking marine officers. He does not exude presence as many of the other men do instead he maintains a calm and diligent work ethic. Wearing glasses and with short neatly cut black hair Allen is the one who actually keeps the base running. He has a mind for organization, efficiency, and along with his diligence manages much of the economic and political workings of the island. He is a swordsman, and some have claimed he carries a Graded blade.
-Rear Admiral Flynn Toctic, "CZ-0": A long-arm with pale hair, skin, and a pair of curling horns, he is the commander of the 23rd Divison, also known as the C.H.I.M.E.R.A. Corps. He is also in charge of the Science Divison on the island, although his main focus is on the work done by Project Cazador. He utilizes his own cybernetic enhancements in battle, primarily the seastone chainsaws built into his limbs and flamethrower spouts hidden in his body. He is capable of moving at very high speeds and generating electrical currents.
-Shuck: Shuck is an average sized black dog, probably a Labrador or Labrador mix, who lives on the base. For some reason, Shuck can be found poking his nose or head out of even the most improbably sized of spots. Nobody is quite sure if he ate a Devil Fruit, is some bizarre Grand Line creature, or what is going on, but here we are.
Leleune Town Inhabitants: The result of Marine Occupation for decades, Leleune Town has many families of current and former Marines present. It also has a significant population of unrelated civilians who moved there to set up bars, shops, and run other services which are prominently catered to off-duty Marines.
Organizations & Groups
G-6 Command: The core forces of the base, they are lead by Vice Admiral Phineas Wermengard.
Marine Science Division: Also known as the Paradise Research Labs, this location is home to many of the Marine's Research teams for the first half of the Grand Line. It is commanded by Rear Admiral Flynn Toctic. It also plays home to Project Cazador, a Marine Cyborg Project whose "Cazador" models of cyborgs are billed as a cheaper, and more mobile option when the brute force of a Pacifista or Battleship is unsuitable.
23rd Divison: "C.H.I.M.E.R.A. Corps": The testbed division for Project Cazador, the unit uses a number of experimental pieces of tech and has numerous cyborgs within it's ranks. Specializing in Anti-Devil Fruit warfare, they have no Ability Users of their own. Expect elemental techniques, shock-troop tactics, and a grim determination to prove that Devil Fruits do not make a good Marine.
Culture
Industry: There are two major sectors on base at G-6. They are Drydocks and R&D. The Drydocks and most standard Marine business are run by G-6 Command but R&D is run by the Marine Science Division.
The base houses a major drydocks, producing Marine vessels and even some experimental designs such as paddleboats. Many Marines on base are found in this area, helping with moving material and protecting the precious Seastone which coats the bottom of higher-tier ships.
R&D is responsible for most of the non-standard work on Base, the most famous group amongst this sector is of course Project CAZADOR. While this sector does not specialize in anything in particular its smaller groups do.
Fashion: The current fashion here is Marine uniforms. Fairly understandable. Apart from that it is common amongst the shipwrights of the drydocks to wear overalls while working. That is probably the only ‘fashion trend’ that really exists in the base.
In Leleune Town, the citizens tend to wear warmer clothing due to the Fall weather, and many wear White and Blue to show their support.
Cuisine: Heavily seafood based due to the lack of available farming land, the cuisine on base is not especially notable.
In Leleune Town, the cuisine can best be described as a Pan-Blues mashup, with various places attempting to cater to the tastes of thousands of Marines away from their place of birth. Some of the specialties include garlic-and-ginger honey-roasted beef pot pie, the Alabasta Roll sushi, and the towering might of the G-6 Burger Challenge (2 pounds of burger, 2 pounds of assorted meat toppings, 4 pounds of bun, and an additional 8 pounds of fries served with a "Wermengard" sized mug of ale.)
History
-20 Years ago, the G-6 Base was founded. With no original native inhabitants, the Marine Base set up in this location was intended as both a low-cost establishment in terms of politics, but also as a method of controlling the Bear Route by presenting a highly difficult hurdle before reaching Saboady Archipelago. It was established 20 years ago, in an effort to quell the surge of new pirates. Construction of the base ended up only requiring the main peak, and to avoid spreading the garrison too far, the other peaks were given to originally a prison, in order to hold the captured Pirates, and then Marine Research divisions.
-19 Years ago, Leleune town was established a year after it's founding, in order to hold the civilian population at arm's length.
-15 Years ago, Construction was completed on all current Marine Infrastructure.
-12 Years ago, Project BIOS was started in the Third Peak.
-9 Years ago, the Marine Weapon Project BIOS went dormant overnight, creating the legend of the Cursed Third Peak. The peak has remained abandoned since this day.
-8 Years ago, the G-6 Prison was shut down and leveled, converting it into the Testing Grounds
-5 Years ago, Vice Admiral Phineas Wermengard was placed in charge of the base.
-2 Years ago, Project CAZADOR was begun to replace the now long-defunct Project BIOS.
