Meru Meru no Mi
English Name:– Melt Melt Fruit
Classification:– Paramecia
Owned By:– Molly Morgan
Appearance:– A strange form of fruit that most closely resembles a pear, this fruit is shaped like a tear drop, with the bottom end being bulbous and soft while the top is narrow and would be pointed if not for the stem that sprouts from it’s top. Covered in pale blue skin that feels like rubber, the surface of the fruit is covered in the faint pattern of golden swirls that encompasses the entirety of its exterior. The stalk that shoots from the item golden, an unusual property of this fruit is that it looks like it has looped around and over itself, forming a kind of broad whorl from the center which makes it look a little like it is coiled a little like a snake.
Ability:– Making the user a 'Melting Human' (Torokasu Ningen 蕩かす人間), this fruit gives the user the ability to soften and liquefy their body or any solid material they touch. An activated power, the effect of the fruit makes the user themselves or that which make contact with suddenly appear as if it has melted minus the heat, it loses all rigidity and stability, growing more viscous thanks to the influence the user has over them. Principally used through the hands, to affect a surface the user would need to lay a hand upon it, though in terms of the personal items they carry such as clothing this is influenced automatically due to the effect of the fruit.
Able to retain control over her own body and outside objects they touched as they use their powers, with a little practice the user can learn to move around in liquid form just as well as they do with their regular body, and even learn to send waves and the like through their transition if need be. Able to reform their body through this effect if divided in some way, the transition shows a superficially mercurial quality since separated portions inherently and supernaturally flow back together, which remains true both for the users transition themselves and for anyone they affect as well.
Translations:– 'Meru comes from Meruto', the Japanese Gairaigo (Loanword) for the word 'Melt'.
'Torokasu' (蕩かす) literally means to Melt, Soften or Liquify.
Weaknesses:– First and foremost the user becoming an 'enemy' of the sea, submersion of any degree in water both salty and otherwise robs them of their ability to activate their power, weakens their body, and if substantial enough can leave them totally paralysed and effectively helpless.
Seastone having a similar effect, exposure to this mysterious substance can likewise restrict activation of their Devil Fruit abilities, as well as drain their strength and stamina.
Only seeming to melt the solid physical properties of a medium, even though this gives the user a pseudo-logia defence when used on their own body the result is generally considered inferior since aspects like extreme of temperature or electrical charges still remain damaging to them, allowing them to be harmed regardless of their current state.
Losing the ability to influence anything once they break contact with it, while this does permit the user to temporarily 'liquefy' other people, the experience while unsettling is also brief and once they release contact returns the victim to their normal state. They also maintain their mobility, so it's rather simple to pull away since 'gripping' a fluid is hard even for the user of this fruit.
Limited against granular mediums, while the effect can 'spread' from her contact point across solid surfaces, things like sand or gravel limit this effect, making the power ineffective on a beach or in a desert.
