It was one past midnight and despite being tired, Jan was still awake in the hotel room he rented for himself. Why? Because a girl he barely knew was sitting on his bed crying. Her name was Lin and she was the daughter of a pirate captain, who captured and almost killed Jan during a raid on a cruiser he was traveling on. She wasn't crying, however, because of her conscience, but rather because a group of marines from the 22nd Division arrested her father, together with the rest of their crew, and saved Jan. The only reason she wasn't in jail together with them was that he saved her. Why? Well because she was his fan. Crazy one but fan nerveless. She also kind of saved his life and was incredibly cute.
Urgh….just thinking about that was giving him a headache. Why it was always he who was stuck in this ind of situations? Why he didn´t let the marines to take her away, to lock her with the rest of their crew, she was a pirate for crying out loud!
Her cry together with the sounds of tears hitting the floor drew his attention back to her.
“Listen, I know this looks bad, but you were pirates and...”
The cry became even more intensive than before.
“God d*** it, why am I such i**ot?”
The writer cursed himself, before continuing.
“I know some guy who can probably help. He is a lawyer who lives here in town. It´s a long shot, but perhaps he can...I don´t know help them to get life sentence instead of death penalty or something.”
The sobbing stopped. Instead of that Lin watched him with eyes wide open. It was hard to say whatever the shock in them was the good or bad kind.
She sobbed again.
“Who will lead me to the alter if...if my father will be in prison?”
The moment of silence that followed was one of the most awkward moments in Jan´s entire life.
“Lead you to what?”
He asked, prompting her to an indulged smile.
“To the altar, during our wedding you silly.”
Jan´s jaw dropped to the floor.
“What? I mean...when...how did you even...”
Her smile changed into uncertainty.
“But...but I am your number 1 fan and back on the ship...you said it yourself. That I am your girlfriend and...and that you love me!”
The writer growled in pure despair.
“But that was just to pull you out of jail, I didn´t...I…”
As the tears returned into her eyes his voice failed. She looked like puppy kicked by it´s owner. How was he supposed to do that to her.
“Look, what I mean is, you are really nice and everything...”
Sincere smile returned on her face, killing the but he wanted to add, replacing it with
“But all of this has to wait alright? It was very stressful day and with your father in prison and...look..right now we should really sleep and tomorrow I´ll try to visit your father and see if there is anything I can do for him, alright?”
She silently nodded. For some reason he suspected the only part she really heard was “you are really nice...” And what was even worse, she wasn´t leaving his room.
Jan cleared his throat.
“There is only one bed in this room and we really shouldn´t...”
Lin bit her lip, before nodding in agreement.
“You are right...we are not wed yet...but...since it´s you and our wedding will be soon. I don´t mind if you take the couch.”
Jan silently growled but didn´t argue, despite actually renting another room just next to this one. He needed to sleep and prepare for tomorrow. Truth to be told, he has one more reason why he wanted to visit the prison. When he was downstairs to take their dinner earlier he heard strange rumor about angelic being, that descended to the city to battle with some devilish man. The angel lost and while the devil disappeared she was captured by the Marines and imprisoned her. And while there was only tiny chance something like that really happened, he couldn´t pass opportunity like that.
