}Personality
Idealistic Dreamer
Lacria’s dream is for the Ryugu Kingdom to be accepted as part of the World Government. She thinks that if that happens, things will get better for Fishmen and Merfolk alike. She’s incredibly optimistic and hopeful. She chooses to see the best in people and dreams of a world where Merfolk can go onto land without being scared that something might happen to them.
Naive Newbie
Having lived a relatively sheltered life has led Lacria to be overly trusting. She also just wants to believe that people are inherently good. She doesn’t have a lot in the way of street smarts, so she’s overly vocal about her dreams and ambitions, which has gotten her and her sister into heaps of trouble.
Surface World Fanatic
Lacria loves the surface world. Having lived in the dark Fishman District for most of her life, she longs to see the blue sky and sun of the world above the seas. Every story or item that comes from up there, she just has to get her hands on. She has a collection of objects from the surface world, many of which she doesn’t understand the purpose of yet. She’s super excited to meet and experience the surface world.
Kind-Hearted
Above all, Lacria is incredibly kind-hearted. She wants the best for people and goes out of her way to help others. For this reason, she decided to study medicine. She wanted to help others when they got hurt. Plus, a doctor in the Fishman District would help her hometown become a better place.
Stubborn as a Bull Trout
Once Lacria makes up her mind, there’s just no changing it. She’s as stubborn as a bull trout and will never give up on her dreams no matter what anyone says or how long it takes. That doesn’t mean that she can’t get hurt. But, Lacria will pick herself back up after each stumble and push forward. No matter what it takes.
Appearance
Lacria is 6’3” long. She has delicate features, but a definite tomboyish look. Her skin is speckled with blue scales, and her eyes are a golden yellow. Her long hair is a yellow-green color with a black streak running through it. She dyes it this way because of her sister, Marina, as a reminder that no matter how far apart they might be, they’d always be there for each other. Lacria’s tail has two little fins sticking out of it near her hips and a large crescent shaped one at the end. A pointed blue dorsal fin runs down her spin to the end of her tail. Her tail scales are green along the sides with a yellow underbelly. Her ears are fin-like and covered in blue scales.
For clothes, Lacria wears an assortment of cute t-shirts and sometimes accessorizes with bracelets. She usually keeps her long hair tied up in a ponytail. When she’s trying to blend in on the surface, Lacria goes around in a wheelchair and covers her tail with a very long skirt or blanket. She wears headphones over her ears to hide those and explains away the blue scales as makeup.

Background
}Born in the Fishman District of Fishman Island, Lacria grew up with her older sister Marina looking out for her. They’d often go out and listen to stories about the surface world and its dangers. For Lacria, that only fueled her desire to visit the world above. Whenever the Queen or one of her activists would come and talk about uniting the Ryugu Kingdom with the Human world, Lacria would listen with starry eyes and bated breath. She and Marina both sided the Queen’s petition, hoping that it would bring about the change that the Queen so vehemently advocated for. A lot of others disagreed with their choice, but Marina was always there to support her, so it didn’t bother Lacria too much. She did cry once or twice though.
When Lacria wasn’t with Marina, she studied the human world and visited Fishman Island proper to hear stories about visitors. She wanted to believe that not all humans were bad and was looking for stories to prove it to take back to the naysayers. She spent a lot of time with the mermaids of Mermaid Cove, collecting trinkets that they gave her from the world above. In exchange, Lacria often helped out the other mermaids in whatever ways that she could. The mermaids started treating her like a little sister and looked after Lacria, especially whenever human visitors were around.
One day when Lacria was still very little, terror and tragedy struck. Lacria and Marina had gone to hear an activist speak on the Queen’s behalf when they were assassinated right in front of the sisters. “Big Boss” Angelo Haus, a scumbag as Lacria would later discover, appeared with a human and claimed that they were responsible. The scene erupted into chaos. It was all Lacria could do to not get trampled and stay out of the way of the frantic crowd. She was separated from Marina and tried to call out for her, but suddenly, everything went dark. She tried to scream, but someone hit her on the back of the head and knocked her out.
When Lacria woke up, she had a heavy metal collar around her neck and equally heavy manacles around her wrists. Before her stood “Big Boss” Angelo Haus talking to his men about their successful capture of several mermaids. Looking around, Lacria could see several others in chains just like her. In a rage, Lacria flew at him before being held back by her own chains. She screamed at him and called him a traitor and all sorts of other names, shocked and angry that one of their own would do this to their own kind.
Haus laughed in response. So filled with venom was Lacria that she spit at his face and hit him! He wasn’t laughing after that. Lacria shrank away as he stomped toward her, but before he could do anything to her, some more Fishmen appeared and attacked Haus and his men. Haus escaped in the scuffle, but he didn’t get away with any of the mermaids. They were all freed, and Lacria was taken back home with not even a scratch on her. She thanked them with all her heart before they went off to look after the other mermaids. Marina came home, defeated and upset by the days events. Lacria burst into tears and hugged her sister, relaying the day’s events.
That day, Lacria vowed that she wouldn’t let anything like that happen again. She wanted to join the human Marines, so that she could work as an advocate for the Ryugu Kingdom. Everyone told her that wasn’t possible, but that didn’t stop Lacria. She spent her teenage years undergoing intense physical training and trying to figure out a way to join the human Marines. In the end, she decided on studying medicine where she could help as many people as possible and present a kinder side of Fishmen and Merfolk that maybe humans weren’t used to seeing. At the age of seventeen through a lot of finagling, Lacria managed to get permission from her school to study abroad. And so, with stars in her eyes and the dream of her former Queen and sister in her heart, Lacria set out.
