So much had been going on and Rakka felt that he was at the height of his despair, that his entire world had been worn away in the moment that the captain had confirmed his biggest fear. There was such a hole now, a pit in his heart that was always going to be there. He couldn’t hear her voice anymore, hug her and train the few days they had together away. All those thoughts were just rushing though his head, compounding with the feelings that he wasn’t enough to save the people of the 22nd.
Then his skin and muscles screamed as a looming figure had wrapped her arms around him in an embrace. Rosie had brought the young marine back to reality with a gesture he never thought she would give. She was hugging him, speaking the words he needed, no, wanted to hear. His face was buried into her form, arms weakly raising to wrap around her torso and return the gesture. Then he heard words from Daniel and Reynard as the sensation of something feathery wrapped around him and the arms of the foxy marine boy.
The wounded marine couldn’t bring himself to speak in that moment as the rush of pain from his wounds and the shattering of his old world broke the rest of him, but he did stop his sobbing. He did his best to move his arms to include everyone that wanted to hug and support him. They were acting like his family, and in some sense, they were his family. Without realising it he had nearly given his life for two of these people, he looked up to Rosie as if she were an aunt and he saw Reynard as a brother.
When his voice returned, he let out a sniffled croak. “Th-thanks.” He managed. “I love you guys.” Rakka spoke genuinely from the heart, his eyes closing with silent tears still escaping. “C-can we just hug for a bit longer?” He asked, sleepily giving all the strength he could to wrapping his arms around those that had made it to his bed, resting his head against Rosie as he started to drift into a sleep. Shifting what had once been his goal onto a slow burn… first he had to make sure his new family survived to see their own dreams through. That would be one that would make his mum proud.
