Edith #6
“As I thought,” Turk exhaled, his eyes piercing as he turned and examined traces of blood upon his sword’s tip. “Even if they do give you strange powers, they do not make you invincible…” Frustrations seemed to wane somewhat as realisation came to him — waning anger that seemed to mirror Edith’s rising concerns. Fate was a cruel mistress and, twice within the span of just a few tens of minutes, if that, she had decided to ruin the girl’s attempts at getting what she wanted.
Once again, white crystals reformed her arm. Once again, the swordsman began a swift advance upon her position, brandishing his blade, but this time with the same kind of composure he had shown previously. Then, it dawned upon her. Gritting her teeth, she lowered her own stance, poised to move the moment he came within her range. At least, that’s what she looked like she was about to do. In her mind, she had an idea, but one she wasn’t sure was going to work.
Steel flourished.
I should really name these ideas…! Here goes…! Palms slammed the ground before her as Turk neared — a move that would have left her far more vulnerable if not for what followed. Spreading from the points of impact, at first outwards and then shooting upwards, large crystals of halite spawned and jumbled themselves together. Within the moment, a wall — maybe about nine or ten feet wide and almost as tall — was formed between Ede and her adversary. Just in time.
Schack! Steel at first pierced the saline shield, then met its match. Unable to see past her own creation, Miss Wieliczka simply rolled backwards as she realised the sword’s tip was poking through the barrier maybe a few inches from where her head was. Subtle movements and the sounds of straining crystals suggested that its owner was very much trying to pry it free, but to no avail. With a satisfied breath, she looked to Tia…“Eh…?! Oi! Tia!” she cried out:
“W– What the f*¢< are those?!”
Dozens upon dozens of creatures, each about the size of a house cat or small dog, were pouring from the holes in the cliffs. Bulbous eyes, many legs, and sharp pincers were all distinctly recognisable traits — ants scaled up several times over. Something had disturbed their nest, it seemed. The ground quaked as Tia brought her foot down, crushing a few beneath her sole, only to find yet more of the scuttling stream starting to ascend her leg. Others poured out elsewhere, prompting the remainers of Gate’s crew to scarper.Wait, these must be, Ede recalled:
The Goliath Ants that guy mentioned…
Crackle… Split! White crystals scattered. Turk’s blade was free. The Little Punk’s eyes shifted to him as he stepped out from behind her little protective wall. For a moment, he too eyed the scenario unfolding, eyes focusing on Tia’s clenched hand for a moment before returning to his opposition…{Post Synopsis:}
As Edith and Turk continue their fight, Goliath Ants start to pour from the cliffs.
