Morning came too soon for Bee Bee. At some point in the night, he had fallen asleep amid his panicked preparations to rescue Arelya from the temple. Picking himself up and dusting the sand off his face, he glanced down at what he had been working on through the night so hard that his hands had blisters. More ropes! And a grappling hook. The grappling hook was made out of a tiny anchor that he’d nabbed in preparation for his great escape. It was pretty small but made of metal and had little prongs. That was how grappling hooks worked, right?
Rubbing his sleepy eyes, Bee Bee wandered over to the shore to clean up his face a little and try to get rid of the puffiness around his eyes. He didn’t want Arelya to think that he’d been crying instead of trying to come to her rescue. With a little sniffle, he soldiered back to his hut and gathered his supplies. Some rice balls had to come with him because he was sure that Arelya would be hungry after her rescue. Then, there were the ropes and grappling hook.
He put his hand to his chin and thought hard about what else they would need. A hiding spot would be good. They’d need somewhere to lie low so that the villagers wouldn’t find them again. They’d also need time to finish the boat. Bee Bee glanced at the craft that Arelya had started on. It looked almost done to him, which would be great if… he had a good way to move it. He was nowhere near strong enough to carry it somewhere hidden let alone without a trial.
Bee Bee sniffled again. He felt his eyes getting all watery again. It felt really… tough. And hopeless. He glanced up to the horizon where the temple sat squarely on top of the mountain range. If he didn’t do it… no one would. Arelya was counting on him! Taking a deep breath, Bee Bee paced back and forth on the shore. He didn’t know any other great hiding spots aside from where his hut was currently… maybe there were some caves around the outside of the island?
Biting his lip, Bee Bee glanced over to the boat. What should he do? He wanted to go right away to save Arelya! Maybe… Maybe she would have an idea about their escape strategy. Yeah, he’d worry about it later! First was saving her before the village guardians could do anything bad to her. Nodding to himself, he bundled up his supplies and headed back to the beach.
The easiest way up to the top of the cliffs was from the beach. The rocks were gonna hurt his feet though. He winced thinking about it. Well. Nothing to do for it but start climbing! Taking a deep breath, Bee Bee grabbed onto the first hand holds and started heading up the side of the cliff.
“Don’t worry, Arelya! I’m coming!”
