Personality
Not-Social
This guy expects nothing but the worst from other people and even less from life itself. At one point in his life he had come very close to not caring at all about what would happen to him and even though that's rarely the case now, he still prefers to avoid social interactions whenever possible.
Rince doesn't despice or hate others, and there might even be a bit of longing left when he watches the connections people form with each other, but experience has taught him that it's wiser to not get close to others and that the only person he can trust is himself.
Silent
Do you know those annoying people who answer your open ended question with one word and fall silent again? Rince is just like that. He doesn't talk much and avoids giving you information about himself.
Beneath the silence there is a lot of thinking going on however. He'll try to assess the potential threat someone is posing, or what his next sort of actions should be. Or he's thinking up a nickname for the person in question as it is his habit to rarely address someone by their real name, even in his head. The more Rince gets along with someone though, the more likely it becomes that he'll use that person's real name.
And although its rather hard to imagine, once he warms up to you, you might find a complete different person than expected beneath the silence.
Melancholie is just a nicer word for Depression
Sometimes there are days when life is okay or even good. Sometimes something resembling happiness sneaks into it. And then there are days when it's hard to get up. When the world just seems so unkind and unforgiving that it's easier to just continue to sleep, even if you're lying with your face in the mud. Everything needs a lot more energy on days like that and people become even more insufferable.
Animals are better than people
Although it seems implied that Rince likes animals better than humans, fishfolk, minks (and other races that would be considered people), he's actually just AS wary of animals as he is of people. They might on average not be as sly and manipulative as people, but they are often not less deadly in pursing their desires. Considering how many animals have tried to fullfill their desire of consuming him for their next meal, Rince is very cautious even around innocent looking animals that everyone tells him are harmless.
AND YET he also kind of gets along well with animals. Yes, some try to eat him, but for some reason some animals also seem to like him very much and Rince reciprocate those feelings. Maybe that's because the lonely boy finds it easier to open up to animals or maybe he's just so starved for companionship that his normal cautiousness can't win against the cute animal charm.
36 – Run away
Whether you want to call him cautious or a coward, Rince would not disagree with you on any of those terms.
He doesn't care if you believe him a coward for running away. After all, your believe will not hurt him like that pointy sword that his enemy is holding.
If possible, Rince prefers to keep away from situations that will force him to fight. Getting into a fight is in itself already a failure. Sometimes fighting is unavoidable, even Rince acknowledges that, but if so then preparations need to be done first to ensure that the favor will be on his side.
Should he somehow accidentally get into a fight, then running away is the next best option. As long as the path is clear, he has nothing to lose by fleeing. Pride? Pah! What use is that even? Try to provoke him as much as you want, he won't budge. Baggage that he had to leave behind in order to flee faster? Unlike his life, nothing is irreplacable. He can always get new stuff again.
Like a wild beast however, he can be rather dangerous when cornered. Is there a fight he can't avoid or has hunger driven him to take a job that involves fighting because there was no other option to gain money? Well, don't expect him to fight with honor. Rince will use all the skills he learned as well as every dirty tactic he can think of in order to survive.
Aside from desperation, there aren't many reasons for him to pick a fight, but rarely as it might be, it happens. And the person most surprised by it is usually Rince himself.
Appearance
[/div][/div][/font][/div][/div]Guy in need of a haircut
It always looks dirty, even if it's not. The most important reason for that is the lackluster dark pink haircolor. Even though it's his natural hair color, it looks more like a brighter pink that has gotten filthy. The other reason for it is that is that it's almost always in a state of various degrees of disarray or mess, supporting the mental image of most people about what's unkempt also being dirty.
The hair is way too long, or not long enough, depending on how you want to look at it. The bangs are uncomfortably long as they fall into his eyes but are yet too short to be tied back into the ponytail. Sometimes Rince just let it cover his face, using it to hide his frown and gaze, but also feeling oddly comforted by the curtain that separates him and the world – as flimsy as it might be.
But often enough he's too annoyed by the lack of proper vision, so he uses various hairclips and other accessories to get it out of his face. The accessories, being a gift from his twin sister (who, unknown to Rince, had stolen it from a noble daughter), featured a wild mixture of hairclips with smiles, flowers, sweets and a various animal motives. They came in all sorts of colors and are generally rather girly looking.
Perpetual Frowner
The cold green eyes already give him a nasty look, but as far as expressions go, eyes can only say so much and it's the eyebrows who really speak of a person's mood. In Rince's case, it's rather hard to distinguish his multiple shades of displeasure as his brows are always in a frown – even when smiling. Sometimes it's deeper, sometimes it lessens a bit, but it's really really hard to catch him without a scowl on his face. His facial muscles are so used to it, that frowning is basically a second nature to him and if he had to consciously stop doing so, he would need to put in some serious effort – which probably would lead to rather unsatisfying result.
Not handsome or ugly
As it's common for people with an ectomorph body type, Rince is rather lean or on occasions when he hadn't gotten enough food for a while, downright scrawny.
His shoulders are rather small and his frame and bone structure look delicate, making his opponents often mistake him as weaker than he really is. Because although he has a hard time gaining muscles, he's speed and agility can gain him an important advantage against heavier and slower opponents.
His face is neither handsome nor ugly and would look rather normal if it wasn't for his constant frown. Combined with the various band-aids or bandages he so often has to wear because he constantly injures himself and the ear pircings – two on his right and three in his left ear – Rince looks like a rather unpleasant fellow and most normal people would likely avoid him.
His very pale and rather pasty skincolor makes him look rather sick at times, but at least it hides the various scars that grace his body as thin whitish lines. Unless he heats up and gets red from a bath or serious excercise, the scars are barely visible, which makes them stand out even more when they do get noticable.
Clothes
Although he preferes dark colors that don't stand out much, he's happy to wear anything he can get his hands on. His clothes are often shabby and tattered and he has to often get new ones, so he usually settles for whatever is cheapest.
Recently his frenemy Inari has gifted him a set of clothes – a horribly pink hawaiian shirt with palms on it and fitting (?) green shorts – under the pretence of giving him a makeover that would make him more approachable looking to others. Considering that Inari was also the one who coaxed him into getting the piercings, Rince was rather unconvinced by this, but free clothes are free clothes – no matter how horrible they might look on him.
Traits
Inhuman Swiftness
Starter Trait #1
Being a coward who prefers running away rather than facing his problems, Rince has become quite a good runner and is faster than the average person, especially when motivated by a treat to his life.
Smells Tasty
Starter Trait #2 Double-edged
Smells tasty to most animals. For that reason, a lot of animals feel drawn to him. If they're big and strong enough they are likely to try and eat him – especially if they are carnivores, but even the harmless herbivore might try a nibble. If they get over their first instinctiv reaction of wanting to eat him, they can actually become rather friendly to Rince and might want to stick with the nice smelling human.
It's important to know that Rince himself isn't aware that he possesses that trait.
Super Drowning Ability
Negative. Devil Fruit trait
Yep, can swim like a stone and we're not talking about pumicite here.
Inhuman Toughness
Free D-Rank Trait
Can endure an astonishing amount of hits and injuries without dying from them. To a certain extend that also allows him to keep standing and fight on despite all the beatings he suffers.
Fighting Styles
Fighting style
Devil Fruit
(200 x-poinz)
Turns the user into a target that can attract moving objects in the surrounding area into hitting him instead of whatever they were aimed at.
Name: Swordfighting?
Focus: Swordmanship, Flying Slashes
Aspect: Flying Slashes
Class: D (200 x-poinz)
Description:
Despite wielding a bokutou (bokken) (a wooden sword which, although imitating the form of a katana, does not have the thin cutting edge of one), one should not underestimate what this fighting style can do as a well aimed strike can break bones or lead to internal bleeding.
The wooden sword also allows for choke-holds that would not be possible with a sharp sword. Despite the lack of a sharp edge, the fighting style still allows for various forms of Flying slashes by creating a sharp wind current and actually focuses strongly on those. While most attacks and blocks are the standard ones you find in any swordfighting style, this style's unique aspect is the focus on the wind slashes.
Name: Aikido
Focus: force-deflection, joint-manipulation
Class: E, 0 X-Poinz
Description:
A fighting style that focus on defending oneself without causing too much harm to the attacker.
The force of the attack is being diverted in a way that makes it harder for the opponent to launch another attack as the user is trying to keep control over the situation by keeping an advantage position and various grip- or throw techniques. Most of the time, attacks (atemi) are used to force the opponent into a reaction, rather than to cause harm, though obviously that's a possibility as with any attacks that hit. There are some techniques that focus on disarming the opponent and the opponent can be pinned to the ground and taken into a lock or be thrown.
Although the style focuses mostly on hand-to-hand combat, exercises for the sword (or bokken) and the short staff (Jou) do exist.
Techniques
Name: On/Off
Fighting Style: DF
Rank: 0
Description: Allows the user to turn on the DF by will instead of having the DF activating on its own. The user can decide when to start attracting objects to himself and when to stop attracting them. Once the DF powers are no longer active, the objects still fly forward in their given path, but they will not change course anymore to hit their target aka the DF user.
Name: Gust of Wind
Fighting Style: Swordfighting?
Rank:1 (50 x-poinz, rebate)
Description:
A technique that creates wind by wielding the sword. This is NOT a cutting wind and will do no harm in itself, but is one that will blow things away. From paper to small wooden pieces that get picked up by the wind which can stear their path to where the user wants them to go. Its strength and accuracy rely widely on the user's strenght and skill of properly utilizing this.
Name: Stop bothering me!
Fighting Style: Aikido, bare-handed, grip technique
Rank: 1, 50 X-Poinz
Description:
Grabbing the opponent by the hand, wrist or/and the elbow, then without waiting, uses a turning or a pivoting moton to turn himself while twisting the opponent's joint into a direction that is unnatural, causing pain and forcing the opponent to follow his direction to avoid further pain and harm. Then the opponent can be released or pinned to the ground in a lock.
Equipment/Weapons
The Mountain's Claw
Fighting Style: Swordfighting?
Rank:1 (100 x-poinz)
Description:
A bokuto (bokken) made from the wood of a "Silver Oak" from the Pikt Archipelago.
It was made by Orous, a fishman shipwright and good craftsman.
Those trees have the ability to take out metal ore from the ground and integrate them in their wood. While Silver or Gold oaks are highly prized for fine furniture and decorations, Rince's sword is made from "lesser" wood, who has mostly iron compound in it. This iron makes the wooden sword harder and more enduring than normal wooden swords, while still retaining the flexibility of wood. Those qualities give the bokuto a very good endurance as it can go up against steal swords without taking damage. It's heavier than a normal wooden sword and has therefore more impact, though it needs more strength to be wielded.

Relationships
Friends
Orous: A craftsman from fishman island, who wants to be a shipwright. They met at Notice Island and had to fight together against a bunch of fishmen pirates who wreaked havoc on the island. During their fight together they have become friends.
Otto (deceased): One of the first people who managed to befriend Rince after his traumatic experience of being betrayed. The monkey man managed to open up the pinkhead's heart a bit. Sadly he was killed recently.
Companions
Lettuce (or Letty for short): A normal but rather small-sized Den Den Mushi who's mechanic apparatus has been broken for ages and who's just a pet right now. Her favorite food are lettuces, hence the name and although she can mimic human speak, she's a rather silent snail, who talks even less than her owner.
Yuushin: A turtle who has been with Rince since his childhood. It has the special ability to find him or his sister, no matter where they might be and sometimes the turtle goes off on his own to visit the other twin. It's not unusual for him to go off on his own and come back only a few weeks later, having had it's own adventure, so Rince is rarely worried when the turtle vanishes. Sometimes Rince and his sister use Yuu to send each other letters and keep in contact.
Bruce: A haggis from Pikt Archipelago in North Blue. This apple sized young haggis, has white fur and a bold, adventurous and very competitive character. Despite his size and cute looks – with the long fur covering the plump, round body and the triangular ears and small fluffy tail that makes children squeal with glee when they see him - he is likely to pick fights with opponents he deems worthy or with those who harrass his „food-provider“ (aka Rince).
More proactive than his human nakama, he is often the one who gets things moving – and brings his food-provider in trouble.
Rather than saying that Rince has adopted the animal after their meeting on Pikt, it's more trueful to assume that it was the other way around.
Despite the obvious mismatch of personality, they both rather like each other.
People of interest
Lili: His twin sister and general troulemaker of the family. She left home to become a pirate when she was 12 years old and although they haven't met since then, they keep in contact, writing letters on a regular basis.
Unlike her brother who is overthinking everything, Lili rarely considers anything before acting.
Although Rince is rather envious of his sisters good luck, their relationship is a good one.
Inari: A boy who grew up in the orphanage of Rince's hometown. Back then he still called himself Reynard rather than Inari, but just like Rince he since adopted a false name. He's also one of the few people aside from Lili, who know's who Rince really is, rather than just knowing him by his fake name Kyou. They are not really friends. If you ask Rince, he'd probably call Inari his „frenemy“. The times Inari has gotten him into trouble are more numerous than what can be counted on both hands, but the young man also proved helpful in certain situations and Rince figures that although Inari loves to play pranks on him, Inari isn't actually trying to kill him.
Inari is sly and tricky and makes quite a lot of money as a merchant, sailing the seas in hopes of profit. With an easy smile and quick wit, he is good at making people like him, but he's also very manipulative.
Hanif Amir: A Marine Captain, specialized in Undercover missions and internal investigations, who has found out about Rince's past. He doesn't seem to have any intention of using it against the boy, but Rince is very wary of the man. Especially since he has already been shot by him once.
Nagi Meshullam: A spy that had infiltrated the Marine group that Rince was part of and who was responsible for the destruction of said group. The spy got away perfectly well and is probably still somewhere around.
Back then he convinced Commander Harris to have Rince hanged as a traitor and it's unclear if the Commander was just foolish to listen to Nagi or if they conspired together as they needed a scapegoat to present to the audience.
Rince has no clue whether he prefers to never see the guy again or what he wishes to do if they end up meeting one day. The betrayal of that person who he saw as a friend has left Rince with quite a trauma and he isn't really over it yet.
Background
Place of Birth: North Blue
Born on a small Island somewhere in North Blue to a father who, although not the mayor, was the deciding force in town. As a rich merchant who held the future of the people in his hands as he had absolute control over the trade that kept the island alive, the man was cruel, relentless and all in all tyranic.
He was also very displeased by the quiet and submissive boy, that should have been his heir. Almost naturally the father began to favor Rince's twin sister, who was assertive, charming and strong.
It didn't took long for the townspeople to notice, that their tyrant didn't care much about his son, and not having any opportunity to show their anger to Rince's fater, they took it out on the child.
Bullied as he was, Rince further developed his reclusive personality and prefered activities like reading and taking a walk all by himself.
His only friends were two kids from the orphanage, Reynard and Morcant, but even with them Rince never felt really save, as Reynard had a bad habit of trying out all sorts of psychological test on other people, including Rince who got into a lot of trouble because of the manipulative orphant he called his friend.
A bit before her twelfth birthday, his sister decided that she wanted to become a pirate and left home. Rince was thrown out of the house afterward. His father had no need of a heir like him and the only reason he had been tolerated at home for so long was because his sister had liked him. Without her here, his father saw no reason to keep the useless boy around.
Seeing no future on an island where everyone hated him, Rince left as well. What followed were multiple years of wandering around. Diligent as he was, he had no problem with working hard and was not picky about any sort of job, but for reasons that were entirely out of his influence, he could never keep a job for long.
All in all he had quite a lot of jobs during his four years on the tramp, for example;
sales assistant (two weeks); waiter (three months); warehouse clerk (14 days) cleaner (in various households all in all 7 months); cook’s mate (4 months); blacksmith (2 hours); sales assistant again (one week); carpenter (2,5 months); librarian (9 months his record so far); lab assistant (4 days) ...
It’s hard to imagine how someone who isn’t a total incompetent fool would manage to fail so badly at everything, but in his case there really seemed to be other reasons. Mainly, bad luck.
He liked the job as a librarian the most, but the library was never rebuild after it had burned down by an accidental fire.
Between the odd jobs, there was also a time he had been an apparentice at a dojo. The old master there was a real tyrant when it came to work and training, but Rince was glad about having a place to stay, and outside of training the old man did care a lot for the boy.
Unfortunately the old man also had a drinking habit and a person's liver can only take so much abuse before it gives out.
With sixteen in a rar moment of what seemed to be a lucky strick, his life would change quite drastically.
That day Rince accidentally knocked out a pirate, who had made a ruckus at a bar he had been working for. The arriving Marines took quick care of the other pirates, as they had noticed the unwanted intruders earlier and were already prepairing to make a move. The Captain there was impressed by the „brave and rightous lad“ who had faced the pirates when no one else would and asked him if he wanted to join the Marines.
Still naive and full of dreams, Rince accepted.
It was a decission he came to regret.
The Marine live started out normaly, with a lot of training and even more cleaning duties. Rince didn't mind, he was used to it.
Things changed when he was chosen to join an undercover team. He might not have been in the Marine for that long, but his weak looking body and the childish face, made him look inconspious and harmless, which was perfect for spying, as people generally ignored him, especially when he was holding a broom and was cleaning somewhere in the background. Together with the others he was send to a freezing island and for six month they went trough a hellish training, prepairing them for their work. Although they never got much recognizion for their work, since they had to work in secret, Rince liked the work and his nakama.
It worked well for about two years and the group became really really close- knitted.
Up until the point where the group was sent to a very important mission – and was betrayed by one of their own.
Aside from the traitor, Rince was the only one who made it back, but the Commander in question had already been convinced by the traitor, that Rince had been the one who sabotaged the mission.
Not wanting to look weak or even worse – having to take the responsibility for the failure – the Commander pushed all the blame on Rince and ordered him executed. Probably as a good way to keep the boy from talking.
This could have been the end for the boy, but for once, luck was on his side.
Executions aren't as common as one might think and there was no one around with any real knowledge of how to tie a hangman's knot.
The hanging never broke his neck and neither did it completely cut off his respiratory system and luckily it didn't prevent his blood to flow normaly either.
Even so with all this nearly not dying of his, death still seemed inevitable.
If it had been warmer, Rince might have hung there until he was really dead, but it was a cold winter day and everyone wanted this unfortunate thing to be over. They took him down once they thought he was certainly dead and went on to burry him in a too shallow grave at the outside of the village. By that time, Rince was in a too bad shape to dig himself out and if it hadn't been for a hungry wolf in search for an easy meal, he would have died there.
And for all purposes he did.
The Marines who thought him a traitor were convinced he was dead and Rince was happy to let them
Deeply scarred by the betrayal, he went into hiding and changed his name.
Living his life day to day, without hope or motivation, he might not have been able to move forward again if it hadn't been for a lucky meeting on Pikt Archipelago, where he became friends with a cute furball he later named Bruce. The haggis managed to return a bit of trust to Rince and although that works mostly for animals and not for people, the youth isn't as depressed as he used to be.
