Pluto - 1
The reflex of coughing up water had woken him. His consciousness faded in and out in ambiguity. His mind was blank, drifting aimlessly in emptiness until a sudden force of will tore through into reality.
“Ugh!” Eyes shot wide open in fright. His heartbeat raced. His body felt agitated, placed in a fight-or-flight response as if he had suffered from a trauma that he had suppressed.
The twilight sky up above suggested that it was either evening or early morning. Without a sense of the cardinal directions, he could not tell if the sun was rising or setting just yet. Judging by the level of his hunger compared to his last session of consciousness, he suspected that no more than a few hours could have passed by, leading to the conclusion that it was evening and that nighttime would soon fall upon him.
Lying on his back near the shoreline, he felt the disgusting sensation of his clothes sticking to his skin as he was drenched in seawater. All he could smell was salt.
His eyes shifted towards the sense of right strapped onto his right bicep as a large object shadowed the corner of his eyes. A hollow wooden barrel with a sealed lid was strapped to his arm. Seeing the barreled triggered his memories of what transpired. As a maelstrom threatened to devour the entire marine ship whole, Pluto detached the sling strap belt off his rifle.
Then, he heard Petty Officer Tsubaki call out to him, “You can’t swim! Hold on to this, Pluto!” A barrel was rolled over to him.
Soldiers clung to the railings and masts. However, in fear that the ship would sink to the bottom of the seas, the boy chose to not tie himself to the vessel itself but instead this barrel.
The event afterwards left a void in his memories. He must have drowned and suffocated with this barrel being the only thing that kept him afloat after the maelstrom tossed him away.
The ground beneath him was rocky brown, and upon turning his glance inland, he saw a massive rocky structure protruding from the ground like a small mountain of sorts.
I'm alive. That was dangerous. Even though I could have escaped that situation unharmed, I had to avoid using my Devil Fruit power. Damn, I never thought I would risk my life for something other than protecting my little sister. That was stupid. I'm never doing that again. Had I not tied myself to this barrel, I would have been a goner.
It seemed that being with a crew of idiots had rubbed off on him. A part of him wondered if there was a way to have hid inside the barrel as a little bat, but he likely would have suffocated inside.
Where am I?
