Upgrading NPCs

Just like Original Characters, an NPC can be improved upon. As the character or crew to whom they belong grows stronger, you may wish to upgrade them; increasing their Class, giving them new weapons and techniques, or even giving them a Devil Fruit of their own. It’s even possible for them to obtain Haki!

To do so, you’ll need to use the templates provided below when you post your request(s). Updates for NPCs should be posted in their appropriate sections, such as Fighting Styles & Techniques or The Item Shop.

If the NPC belongs to a specific Original Character, use this template:

1. Class Increase

To purchase a Class Increase for an NPC, you’ll need to post your application in the Fighting Styles & Techniques board in the Market Place. When you do so, you’ll need to include the following template, in addition to those listed above.

As mentioned above, an NPC cannot exceed a certain Class, which is dependent on the current X-Poinz Total of their owning character or crew Captain. The chart below explains these requirements, as well as the exact costs for upgrading an NPC to the listed class from the class below it.

If you are increasing an NPC’s Class by more than one stage, remember to add the costs together. For example, if you’re upgrading a D Class NPC to B Class, you would need to pay for both upgrades individually — 175 XPz plus 250 XPz for a total of 425 XPz.

When an NPC’s Class is increased, they gain the following benefits:

• 1 Trait for each Class Increase
• An upgrade to their Core Fighting Style (see below)

2. Fighting Styles, Techniques, Overdrives

NPCs are capable of improving their core Fighting Style, as well as developing new ones, and can learn Techniques and such as appropriate to their styles. There are, however, two types of Fighting Style which an NPC can improve upon, which function slightly differently. Both must be applied for in the Fighting Styles & Techniques board.

Core FiSt
An NPC has what is called a Core Fighting Style. This is a free FiSt developed alongside them, whose Class is always equal to the Class of the NPC — an NPC that is D Class would have a D Class FiSt. There is no additional charge for these, as they come as part of the package, and they offer 125 Rebate X-Poinz and 1 Aspect per upgrade, as per usual for FiSts.

The following chart shows how many Aspects and how much Rebate X-Poinz (in total) an NPC should have from their Core Fist, based on their current Class.

Additional Fighting Style
The second type of FiSt is an Additional Fighting Style, which functions as an entirely separate FiSt and follows the rules applicable to Original Character FiSts. This includes costs and Rebate XPz, but otherwise follows a very similar formula — an NPC’s additional FiSts can never exceed their current Class.

Regardless of the type of FiSt, NPCs follow all regular guidelines regarding Techniques and Overdrives.

Exchanging Fighting Styles
At any point, it is also possible for an NPC’s Core FiSt to change, assuming they have at least two Fighting Styles. There are multiple reasons why you may want to do this, such as an NPC adapting to a new specialisation, or learning the abilities of their Devil Fruit. There are only two requirements necessary in order to be able to do this.

First, the Fighting Style that you wish to become the new Core FiSt must be upgraded to match the NPC’s current Class — for example; a C Class NPC must have an Additional FiSt of C Class, or be upgrading an additional FiSt to C Class in the application. Alternatively, if you are upgrading an NPC to a new Class, you can do this at the same time.

Further examples can be found below, for clarification:

• ^{If you upgrade a D Class NPC to C Class, and that NPC has a D Class Core FiSt and E Class Additional FiSt, you can choose to keep their original Core FiSt at D Class, and upgrade their new Core FiSt to C Class. You will need to pay for the upgrade of an Additional FiSt to D Class as well. This is the only situation in which you will need to pay for the additional upgrade, otherwise any costs are transferred between FiSts.}

3. Weapons & Equipment

To purchase new weapons and gear for an NPC, you must apply for them in the Items Shop. There is no difference between costs and requirements for Original Characters and NPCs. Please refer to The Armory for further information, should you require it.

4. Obtaining Devil Fruits

An NPC can, at any point, obtain a Devil Fruit. The Original Character or Crew to which the NPC belongs must be able to afford the base cost of the Devil Fruit, as normal, and the Devil Fruit must still be approved before it can be used. Once an NPC consumes a Devil Fruit, they gain a Fighting Style for it, which you will still need to apply for separately unless you are creating the NPC at the same time, in which case it will be considered their Core FiSt. Otherwise, all standard rules of Devil Fruits apply.

5. Obtaining & Developing Haki

It is also possible for NPCs to awaken and develop Haki. However, there are a number of requirements that must be met in order to do so. Must like Original Characters, an NPC’s Haki must be applied for in the Haki Requests board, but uses the rules and costs listed here.

Awakening Raw Haki
An NPC can awaken their Haki at any point, no matter their Class, but in order to do so the Original Character or Crew’s Captain to which they are linked must have awakened their own Raw Haki first. NPC Haki must still be applied for as normal. In the case of attempting to awaken Haoshoku Haki, an NPC can only do so if their owning character or crew captain has awoken it first, and must meet sufficient requirements in order to do so.

Training Haki
As with awakening Raw Haki, an NPC can develop their Haki into a trained state regardless of their current Class, so long as the owning character or crew’s Captain has trained their own Haki. In order to improve an NPC’s Raw Haki into its trained state, you must spend 150 X-Poinz for each Color of Haki you wish to train. In order to train Haoshoku, the NPC in question must have obtained Raw Haoshoku Haki.

Haki Advancement
An NPC who has trained their Haki can now further develop it in time. To do so, the NPC’s owning character or crew’s Captain must have accumulated a specific amount of X-Poinz, the character or crew in question must be able to afford the X-Poinz cost for each advancement, and the NPC must be of a particular Class. The chart below clarifies the costs and requirements for each advancement.
