Some stories can only be told a certain way. Whether because they are too personal, too lonely, or too strange to have another character be a part of them, there are many reasons for why you might choose to use a Log to tell a part of your character’s story.
Writing a Log
So what is a Log exactly? A Log is...
- Solo: A Log is a full story written by a single author, thus allowing you to tell a part of your character's story without anyone else.
- Canon: Logs are counted as a part of your character's canon. This means they can be used to gain X-Poinz, they can serve to fulfill the requirements for Haki, and the actions a character takes within them can count for both bounty and promotion requests.
- A Single Post: A Log should be completely contained within a single post. Some people will write multi-Log stories, but each individual Log should be a single post.
- About a Single OC: A Log can only earn X-Poinz for a singular character - but this does not mean they have to be the only character in it. You can use NPCs or other OCs of your own, but only a single OC can gain X-Poinz from a Log.
Unlike other types of threads, Logs are not posted in the areas of the world they take place in - instead, they are compiled in the Logs board.
X-Poinz from Logs
Due to their “single post” format, Logs are incompatible with our usual manner of figuring out X-Poinz rewards, which is a post-based system. Instead, Logs earn XPz based on wordcount; for every 500 words, you will earn 10 XPz. This does, however, have a cap - you can only ever earn a maximum of 200 XPz for a Log. A Log can be longer than the 10,000 words required to hit this cap, of course.
However, unlike with a normal thread, it is not possible to earn bonuses with a Log. Our bonus system is based on good roleplay habits, and thus is completely incompatible with the solo nature of Logs!
Additionally, as they are personal in nature, Logs never count toward Crew XPz.
Getting a Log Graded
Once you've written a Log, you will need to submit it for grading in order to gain X-Poinz from it. For the most part, the grading process is exactly the same as a standard thread from the submitter's standpoint; you will go to the Plot Submission board and create a new thread with the same title as the Log, along with (LOG) (SUB) (or something along those lines) so that staff can quickly tell that it is a Log awaiting grading.
After that, you will need to fill out the following template appropriately:
Log Title/Link:-
Word Count:-
Brief Synopsis:-
Character Name/Link:-
X-Poinz at Submission:-
Notable Feats:-
Additionally, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- If you are putting multiple Logs in the same thread, be sure to link to the exact post of the Log you are submitting. (If you go to a post and click on the gear button in the top right corner, you can obtain a link by selecting the “Link to Post” option in the drop-down menu that appears.)
- Word Count should only count words that are part of the Log's story! This means that any headers, footers, or any other content that is not a part of the actual story do not count toward the Log's word count.
