Personnel File
}Personality
Shy
Having lived in her father’s dojo for most of her life, Kasumi grew accustomed to seeing the same faces. The only exceptions were new students who quickly grew to become familiar faces by the virtue of training together. She’s still not good around new people, and doesn’t have amazing social skills.
Diligent
Kasumi isn’t naturally talented at many things, especially martial arts. Because of that, she puts in a lot of hard work to make up for her own perceived faults. If she’s ever to catch up to those one hundred times more talented than her, she had to work one hundred times harder than them.
Indecisive
Past failures and the doubts that she was never good enough pervade Kasumi’s mind and make it hard for her to come to any decision quickly. She overthinks things and hesitates when swift action really matters.
Gentle
While part of her martial arts education involved hardening one’s resolve, Kasumi has always had a gentle spirit. She prefers the art side of martial arts and doesn’t want to hurt anything or anyone. She’s also incredibly soft spoken and kind.
Straight-laced
Kasumi was never the type to joke around or goof off. She wanted to set a good example for other students. As a result, she can come across as an overly cautious stick in the mud who doesn’t know how to have fun. She’s the responsible sort.

Appearance
Made by Ishida
Kasumi is a rather tall woman. She has blue hair and purple eyes. Her lower half is that of a manta, while her upper half appears human. Her skin is very fair, complimenting her delicate features. She usually wears very baggy pants to cover her tail or legs when she’s on land. Aside from that, she wears the typical garb of a shinobi.

}Traits
Amphibious
Merfolk Starting Trait #1
Kasumi has the ability to breathe underwater and in open air and is adapted to be able to swim better than other races, reducing drag and allowing her to perform normal movements even in the crushing depths.
Supreme Swimmer
Merfolk Starting Trait #2
Your natural adaptations make you incredibly agile in the water, granting you naturally enhanced speed and mobility. You can move faster than any other race while underwater, though those with special techniques can still evade or outrun you with relative ease.
Fish Whisperer
Merfolk Starting Trait #3
Kasumi has the ability to speak in an inaudible frequency in order to communicate with fish.
Tough Skin
Merfolk Starting Trait #4
Due to her heritage as a manta ray merfolk, Kasumi has some naturally tougher skin despite her delicate looks. Good thing too, because she’s rather clumsy on her two new feet and takes some rather rough hits from time to time. Her natural resilience allows her to tough out injuries that would cripple or incapacitate anyone else.

Fighting Styles
Name: Merfolk Ninjutsu
Focus: Tools, Martial Arts, Espionage
Class: E
Description:
Diverging from Fishman Karate, Merfolk Ninjutsu specializes in stealth and guerrilla tactics to cripple and kill opponents efficiently. --
Techniques
Name: Kurosusutā

Name: Uzumaki
Fighting Style: Merfolk Ninjutsu

Description:
Kasumi spins around on the spot, letting her twin kusarigama spiral out on the ends of their chains in an attack that slashes an opponent multiple times and knocks them downward if in the water and upward if on land.
--
Equipment
Name: Twin Kusarigama
Fighting Style: Merfolk Ninjutsu
Rank: 0

Kusarigama are sicles with a chain and ball attached to them. They can swing around freely and require a fair bit of skill to use with any reliability. The ball can be used to snare an opponent.
Name: Yumi
Fighting Style: Merfolk Ninjutsu

As opposed to human longbows, a merfolk Yumi more closely resembles a crossbow that launches a spear. It functions well both in water and on land and works best at long range.
Name: Tantō
Fighting Style: Merfolk Ninjutsu
Rank: 0
Description:
A very short blade, the Tantō functions as a tactical knife for piercing and stabbing. It can slash, but it is less effective. This is primarily a sidearm and can be hidden easily under clothing.
Name: Shuriken
Fighting Style: Merfolk Ninjutsu
Rank: 0
Description:
The term shuriken applies to a variety of thrown weapons and tools. In Kasumi’s case, she keeps a collection of darts, spikes, throwing knives, and larger throwing stars.
Name: Squid Ink Bombs

Rank: 0
Description:
Able to be used both in water and on land by a miracle of biology and chemistry, squid ink bombs explode and leave a smokescreen behind to allow for a swift escape.

Background
}Kasumi grew up on Fishman Island. Her mother died when she was little, so all she really knew was her father. He ran a Fishman Karate dojo that taught a new style of the martial art that focused on aspects of stealth and misdirection. Kasumi did her best to learn it and live up to the expectations that the whole dojo had for her. She always put a lot of pressure on herself when she felt like she wasn’t doing a good enough job.
She didn’t have the talent for martial arts as a lot of the other students did. As she grew up, she heard a lot of things about how one particular group talked behind her back. They called her weak and clumsy and untalented. A disgrace to the dojo. Kasumi challenged them more than once to defend her honor, but she always ended up battered on the ground.
One day, her father grew ill, and the future of the dojo was up in the air. He had total faith in Kasumi to carry on the traditions, but his other students protested. To settle the matter of who would become master of the dojo should Kasumi’s father die, it was decided that there would be a competition. Nervous and worried about her father, Kasumi practiced daily, but she was distracted. The night before the competition, her father’s condition grew worse. Sick with worry, Kasumi stepped outside and overheard a conversation between some of the other students. It was just two or three of them, speaking in hushed voices, but she could hear them clearly. They were talking about having poisoned her father.
Filled with rage and hatred, Kasumi confronted them during the competition the next morning in front of the other students. When they denied her claims, she challenged them then and there for the right to be the next master of the dojo. Anger and her own doubt and regret clouded her mind and cost her the match, her father’s beloved dojo, and her home. As the match ended, one of the other students burst in with the dreadful news that her father had passed away.
Kasumi broke down, lunging out and attacking the group that was to blame, but they subdued her and cast her out of the dojo. Before she could even process what was happening, the new master of the dojo gave her a dire warning to leave Fishman Island or what happened to her father would happen to her as well. Fleeing without a second thought, Kasumi went wherever the ocean currents took her. She wandered aimlessly in despair and fear, hating her own cowardice and lack of strength.
