Personality
Twisted, yet delectably so, a mind filled with often contradicting philosophies and outlandish thoughts. Columbus, unlike other marines, has no set moral to follow. A free spirit as he'd like to call himself, only doing what would be deemed as right for societal acceptance. If not restrained, it wouldn't be surprising for Columbus to resort to more inhumane practices in pursuit of knowledge. However, he's not inherently evil, so to say. For though with his crooked thinking and often questionable demeanour, he does not actively seek suffering from other individuals. Albeit, has no problem inflicting so unintentionally as a cause from his actions.
Some would find him amicable, others, vexing. With little to no filter, his sharp tongue would often cut ties even before they were made. Often showing him in a bad light. As such, despite his openness for friendly relations, it would seem as though his frankness would often hinder him from forming such bonds. Though it doesn't bother him as his time would often be occupied by his various studies, engrossed deeply on his thirst for discovery.
Appearance
Tall and slender with branch-like arms and twig-like fingers; lanky is one way to describe him kindly, skeletal if you're being honest. Although do not be fooled by his mantis-esque physique as he does, in fact, pack muscle hidden behind his clothing. Flowing down to his shoulder is his paper white hair, often unkempt in a tangled mess. A constant disheveled look. Further emphasizing his jet black eyes are dark bags under his sunken eyes; a result of his long hours at work, staying overnight for his studies. His lips are thin, seemingly sharp, and dark enough to be considered black, a great contrast to his impossibly pale skin.
As per clothing choice, he goes for comfort more than style. Always seen with a baggy lilac sweater made of wool, large enough to make him seem imposing; especially with arms wide open as it does stretch the fabric. At the front, the character for knowledge【諝】is embroidered in white on his lilac sweater. On top of this is his lab coat, something he'd wear at all times, almost replacing the regular marine uniform. Unbuttoned to reveal his clothing underneath with the marines' seagull insignia on both its back (to be replaced with the justice insignia upon attaining his promotion) and its left sleeve. Similar to his sweater, the lab coat is rather oversized, further giving the illusion of him being much larger than he already is.
He'd also wear lilac latex gloves and keep a silver pocket watch chained to his pants' belt loop. Below he'd wear a pair of white pants and shoes most officers would be seen with, with the exception of lilac laces and a lilac strip that runs down on both outer sides of his pants.
Traits
Inhuman Perception
0 X-Pointz
Human Bonus Trait #1
With great mindpower comes his inhuman ability to perceive his surroundings. In combat, this allows him observe subtle nuances of his opponent, allowing him to easily analyze openings and potential moves as well perform the most delicate of operations with ease. Out of combat, it is often used for his analytical and surgical work. Although impressive, it is not even close to what haki may offer.
Inhuman Swiftness
0 X-Pointz
Human Bonus Trait #1
With a mind as fast as his, his body simply had to keep up. He could move much faster than that of average, far surpassing even athletes at their peak. Although it does not make him travel at blinding speeds it does make him a nuisance to fight against with. Being much harder to hit with swift dodges as well as much faster movements making him similarly harder to avoid. It also makes him an efficient worker. Not applicable underwater for obvious reasons.

By exerting force upon the creation of small, sharp, quartz shards off of the palm of his hand; he is able to propel them forward at great speeds and force. He'd fire multiple shards in a short burst, akin to a burst of a fully automatic machine gun, out of a single palm. The shards are sharp and forceful enough to pierce through some thin metals.
Background
Born from a far off island in the middle of North Blue. An island on its early years, yet to be charted by any map. Wildlife grew rampant. Danger loomed on a daily basis as vicious plants and animals threaten their very lives. However, despite its rich, unarguably hazardous ecology, its people found a way to adapt and overcome. They built houses on treetops of gigantic trees, towering meters upon meters above from the ground with bastions taking care of straggling predators that may manage to climb. The clouds were at their fingertips.
His parents were just as mundane as anyone else in the island. Irrelevant and unassuming. He, however, wasn't quite the same. No arguments on nature versus nurture, Columbus is, and truly so, a natural born genius. Or perhaps simply born with an inherently curious mind. He'd show early signs of curiosity, watching in amazement as their hunters would cut open cadavers of recent hunts. He'd study flora and fauna alike, jotting down his observations despite having no direct influence on why he must do so. He simply felt as though what he was doing was right, and rightfully so. At the young age of nine, he had already grown to be the tribe's doctor and consultant. Having knowledge of various herbs and its properties, he'd know exactly what to recommend and just where to get it.
Peace, however, never lasted. Notorious pirates plundered their island, burned it down from the ground up. As a last ditch attempt to save their child, his father managed to safely bring him down and towards the shore. He was smart, he'd know what to do; the last few words uttered by his father as he was shot with a stray musket ball. In tears, he'd run away, seeking shelter in fear as he hid within one of many barrels lined across the shore. A few hours would pass and he became famished. With nothing else but an odd fruit with him inside the barrel, he had no choice but to dig in. Its putrid taste made it difficult to swallow, however, his hunger prevailed. Then- light. The barrel was opened and a disgruntled face would greet him and pick him by the collar.
The young boy had stowed away unbeknownst to him. Around him were various other pirates, towering over him like the trees of his now ravaged home. He was subject to execution; to walk the plank like any unwanted stowaways. Especially after eating the devil fruit they scoured his home island for. However, the crew's doctor had a soft heart, and thankfully so, petitioning for the child to be taken under his care as his assistant. The pirate captain approved upon much consideration, making him the choreboy they would run errands with.
The doctor, surprised, found of the child's untapped mind's potential. It was the right decision, after all, or so he thought to himself. Under his tutelage, Columbus would learn of the human anatomy and general medicine, devil fruits, and even the state of the world in a political and geographical sense. He'd give the young stowaway various reading materials, all of which he had picked up on and mastered with speed and proficiency. With each new haul from various plunders, his knowledge only grew more. And by the age of twelve, he was already a practitioner of medicine and chemistry as he began to explore more of his own ideas. It is then when he first thought to innovate, setting future goals upon himself to achieve in the name of discovery.
However, it is at this same age when the marines had finally caught up with their crew. Everyone had been sent to either a lifetime of jail or execution. Him, being a young man under of age, had been given a chance and was sent off for reform, and at the same time, to study. His exceptional performance warranted attention, giving him the chance to try out for the marines, particularly for their research division. Without second thoughts, he had agreed upon so. Indubitably, the young man, now at the age of 15, passed with high remark. Being young, however, he started out as an upkeep of the research division and its laboratories. He took this time, however, to observe and analyze works of their scientists and analysts. He'd read their resources if given the chance to do so, and even watch up close if permission grants it.
His marine training had also started, picking up his staff as a practitioner of bojutsu as well as of various polearm weaponry. Sufficient training of his devil fruit had also been supplied for the young Columbus. After he had reached the age of 17, he finally became an official part of the organization as a Seaman. The lowest possible rank, however, everyone had to start somewhere. Time would pass and he'd only further showcase his skill and right to rise the ranks, particularly on their department. At the age of twenty, his research on artificial life and robotics had begun, stemming from his devil fruit and racial studies. By the time he had reached the age of twenty nine was when he had finally been granted the trust and right to become a warrant officer. The lowest official position, yet it was something, still.
As of current, the newly appointed warrant officer continues his research on devil fruits, the various races, as well as the creation of artificial life; both with biological and mechanical matter, each of equal importance to Columbus.
