"Geez, and people started taking to call me a vampire," Kite rolled his eyes a bit at the fact Pluto was forcing him to wander about with Miu.
It wasn't that the young man hated the prospect, on the contrary, he enjoyed the possibility of catching up and was hiding that excitement. What did send a jolt of mild annoyance into his system was that this guy had little regard for Kites own well being in that heat. The both of them, maybe this entire lot other than Miu, were used to cooler temperatures. Sure he'd been treking around and getting acclimated to the heat but it didn't change the... widely perceptive pseudo-felines disposition. Silently crossing himself the youth made it a point to reel in any shenanigans that they might get into. He didn't want to get a case of heat stroke.
However before walking off or even answering Miu's incoming questions and earlier prod he made it a point to cross the table. Placing his right hand on the wooden surface he leaned over to the side, offering the cat girl a glance before circling back to make eye contact with Pluto. It might've been slightly intimidating for a man the current ship captains size but the purpose wasn't to put pressure. With hair flopping downward thanks to the tilted nature of Kites lean he appeared less menacing.
"Mystery Man. Mystery Woman. You want to make it close to the truth as possible, that way if someone corrects you or offers up to the contrary you have a place to investigate. We've got no idea if whoever this is made enemies so... well... I trust you to not make habit of discussing something concerning us. Be safe, we'll be back soon. Good luck with your supplies," Nodding at the equally as young captain the hunter dislodged his hand from the lean and circled around to the steps gesturing for Miu to follow him before he started talking again.
Nodding at Ara and Rebecca he tried for a soft smile, to those two girls it might seem a bit more comforting that even with how he spoke he meant well. Red eyes graced around the cabin one last time before turning toward the stairwell and Miu. His feet echoing rhythmically as he ascended the short distance and wrapped against the acoustics of his voice.
"I would not have called that surprise more like... shock? The way everyone was speaking it was like you had turned into a phantom or something. Both not and on the ship at the same time. More importantly how did you manage to get Jemma's cat? The two were inseparable back on the barge," Flicking hair out of his face with a gloved right hand the slender male exited the vessel and continued speaking without missing a beat only offering a moments break as he waited for a response and gauged the reaction of Miu.
"While you've been training, I've also been training," He said rather flatly crossing the bulk of the ships deck and going towards the ramp that led towards the port that they had crossed a collection of minutes prior.
The cry of people near the city, that of gulls and the ambient chatter of wheels and feet on stone or dirt had died down considerably. The palace guard presence had even dimmed dramatically so to the point those tunics and colors were a rare shade among the groups of people flocking to or exiting the port to enter the cities corridors. The sun had moved from overhead to a diagonal curtain across the sky lessening the intensity of its heat, yet it still earned a sigh from Kite as he cleaned his brow though his eyes never left Miu.
They faltered, scanned her face as he looked like he wanted to say something but bit back the words in his mouth. Dropping his gaze and turning around over to the rails of the ship they were nearing he kept his voice low.
"My dad is dead, Miu," More of a mumble than anything.
"Mother told me herself. Been dead for a long, very long time," He let out a very long breath of air and turned around with a masked expression leaning hard against the rails and offering her a spot near him with a flick of the left wrist.
"I trained with her after that... got to know what was going on in and around my home. Even beat up one smart mouth. I'm not going to bore you with the details since we've got people to see... chumps to interrogate and fishes to eat. More curious what the story is with you and this group actually. A little more well-to-do than you right? Unless they really are some high class criminal overlords," Kite jokingly rolled his hands about letting out a dry snicker and poking fun at the girls tendency to fall in the moral grey.
"Jokes aside... I'm glad I could meet you again after all this time. I'm in a much better place now," He nodded at her, that smile from his joke still on his face and unlike prior times was a full corner to corner expression with closed happy eyes.
He really did look like some kind of dog or fox, wagging an imaginary tail.
Though he leaned up against the rails he was ready to shove off and go landside whenever Miu was. He seemed far more relaxed than usual additionally, suggesting a change in mind as much as the ability to change his face. Maybe even his motivation for going to the grand line changed?
