“Oh my thank you!” Ruby beamed as Jan responded with a vote of confidence and an offer to partner up. Even if it was temporary, she liked having a friend in all of this. Even if she was putting that friend in danger, she hated being alone in a city of enemies. “Partners!” She held out her hand to help Jan up, and then took stock of her surroundings. “Looks like we are on the west side of the university.” She trailed off, bringing up a map of the island in her memory. Sadly maps of the island were not perfect, as the constant fighting between to odd factions of builders led to small confusions regarding the city layout. Even if everything was in a nice grid, the Unfinishistas and the Completionists would go out of their way to complicate things for each other. Maps were often biased by the side that printed them.
“I think....” Ruby bit her lip and looked down one street. It was then she noticed how barren the streets were. Silver Islands maintained a pristine cityscape of polished stone and metal with nary a tree or shrub in sight that wasn’t safely within the confines of some dedicated spot. However they were always bustling with activity and the citizenry was quite active. At the moment, not a single living thing was moving. “....I think we need to keep moving.” What they really needed was a ship. But if the Marines had so effectively evacuated the surrounding city they would assuredly have blockaded the ports. Ruby turned to Jan. “Do you happen to know where we could find a ship that the Marines won’t be keeping locked down?” Ruby was open to suggestions, and waited to see what Jan said.
“There!” Came a sudden shout. A Marine came out of an alley, and pointed to the pair, shouting to get attention. Ruby reacted on reflex, spinning around and cocking her hand back to make a full winded pitch.
“Little Bright!” The marine started to bring a whistle to his lips as Ruby winged a small golden ball through the air, cracking him right in the chin and knocking him out completely. His shout got attention though, and the sound of rapid footsteps came from the alley. “Ok partner. Are you ready to run? We can figure out where later but we should avoid a fight if we can!” Ruby kicked a big chunk of gold from earlier, revealing the bag of vials which had been protected by their metallic coffin. She didn’t even know how she knew exactly where it was, probably another quirk of her fruit more than likely. Grabbing a handful of the smoke vials she threw one towards the alley, and another back towards the university, then chucked another two at random streets to throw off their pursuers. Hefting the bag over her shoulder, she threw a confident grin at her partner. “Let’s get moving!”

“How disappointing.” Captain Sevallo muttered into his Den Den Mushi. He stood unnoticed atop a nearby building, having positioned himself expecting his Lieutenant to swiftly bring the fugitive outside. Instead the fool caused a terrible mess, and got himself buried in a collapse. Sevallo was a beautiful man, with cleanly chiseled, strong, and slightly effeminate features accentuated by his flowing pink hair and custom detailed Captains jacket. The Jacket was embroidered with gold, and he had silver chains hanging between the collar holding the jacket over his shoulders. A fine rapier hung at his hip bearing an ornate handle of spun gold and bejeweled with precious Rubies.
“You miscalculated. A small set back. Correct your error and bring the girl to the base as soon as you can.” Sevallo supressed the urge to snap at the man on the other end of his Den Den Mushi. The owner of the voice was his superior though, and one he didn’t want to cross. “I will remain at the base.”
“Are you sure she go there?” Sevallo asked incredulously.
“Not at all. It is a logical choice though. If she is a scientist, it is a calculated risk that she will attempt to find an escape. We have every port locked down. The base is the obvious choice.” That made sense. His superior wasn’t done though. “Besides. You will not fail to apprehend her. Your lieutenant made a mistake. I trust you will not?” The Den Den Mushi clicked and Sevallo was alone with his thoughts once more.
“How disappointing.” He repeated. But he wasn’t talking about his Lieutenant. He had another issue with this fugitive. She had taken something from him. Something he wanted very desperately. He crouched down, and watched to see where they ran to. He needed Ruby Bright alive. Her companion was a nobody. Probably just a convenient tool the girl would use as a captive for leverage. The blonde he had no interest in, and could die either at his hands or Ruby’s for all he cared. But the redhead he needed alive.
