Personality
A self styled ladies man, Demitri cuts quite the dark, tall, and handsome figure. He always carries himself with a certain dignity and grace. Except when he is called out on anything he’s done wrong. Then he’s a bit more like a nervous school boy trying to hide from scolding. Looks aren’t everything, especially with Demitri. Under all that apparent dignity is a sensitive soul who just wants to find his place in the world. He hates being on the outs and can’t help but seek attention from his peers and superiors. As such, he’s a bit of a troublemaker.
Demitri prides himself on being a snoop and a gossip, though the information he has isn’t for sale or recreational use. He just likes to know everything that is going on at any given time. Knowing that gives his anxiety some degree of comfort. At his core, Demitri is kind, protective and caring, but he will express his affection primarily through teasing and light jabs. He dishes it out, but can’t really take it himself, reverting to that nervous schoolboy disposition. Despite the irritation he may cause in his crewmates and their potential scorn, he would give his life for them in a heartbeat if push came to shove.

Background
A Loguetown local, Demetri was present for the execution of Gold Roger. Just a child then, he watched with mixed amounts of admiration and awe for this man who had claimed all the world had to offer and more. It made him believe that any dream could be achieved so long as you worked at it for long enough. However, Demitri realized that he didn't have a particularly grand dream, or really a dream at all.
Demitri was a simple guy with simple desires. His family safe, some nice women on each arm, nothing too glamorous. Nothing too big. His parents were both retired Marines, so he didn't have much to worry about in that regard. They did keep nagging him to find a line of work, but Demitri was a carefree sort then. Demitri gained a reputation for being a bit of a playboy as he would go on dates with several different girls. They were casual affairs. There was one girl who he started to get a little more serious with before she left him due to his commitment issues.
Everything changed when pirates attacked Loguetown. His family was killed when they tried to defend the citizens, leaving him all alone in the world. Devastated, Demitri struggled to figure out what exactly he was going to do with his life. He got a job waiting tables at a restaurant as Loguetown began to rebuild. Eventually, one Marine named Graves noticed him and told him to enlist in the Marines rather than waiting tables.
Demitri had to think it over. What he wanted more than anything was somewhere to belong again. Sure, maybe it wouldn't ever be like it was before, but maybe it could be better than this. Than waiting tables with a crap apartment. He wanted a family. He wanted to rebuild himself. So, with all of that in mind, Demitri gathered himself up a few days later and enlisted.
During basic training, it was all he could do to keep up with the other Marines. He was the bottom of his class. A troublemaker. A loser. A ladies man. He was far removed from what the ideal Marine was supposed to be. Then again, it wasn't exactly what he imagined either. Frustrated by his own weakness, Demitri practiced diligently in private, trying to catch up to his peers. He put in twice the effort to get half as far. But...any dream can be achieved if you work at it long enough, even if you didn't have the genius or talent for it...right?
