Personality
Burning hot with fiery passion, Hanabi puts all of herself into everything she does. As a result, she can be rather short tempered. She doesn’t have patience for lazy people. The only patience that she has she puts into her music. She’s stubborn as a bull shark and rude to boot. She doesn’t care who you are or where you come from, if you can’t earn her respect, prepare to be dissed.
Hanabi hates damsels but hates being one even more. She’s too proud to admit when she needs help even from her friends. She hates feeling powerless and helpless. Everything about her screams punk, though part of it is just facade to help protect her from the discriminatory stares of humans. Overall, she’s foul, rowdy, and energetic.
Appearance
Hanabi has short fiery red hair that spikes out explosively. The color of her hair matches the color of her red stripes that cut across the white of her tail. She has a skirt of venomous spines where her tail meets the skin of her torso. The spines also line the back and sides of her tail, trailing all the way down to her tail fin.
Hanabi always wears a black top. She tends to prefer leather jackets and gloves with cut off fingers. Often times, she will wear a spiked choker necklace as well. Underneath the jacket, she wears a black tube top. Her whole body is toned. Her ears are pierced in several places as is her nose.

Hanabi grew up in the fishman district of Fishman Island. Her father was a tiger shark merman and her mother was a lion fish fishwoman. They lived in squalor and relative poverty, celebrating their fallen heroes who took stands against the humans. Her brothers were content to sit back and let the heroes teach the humans a lesson, but Hanabi wanted to follow in their heroes' footsteps. Her brothers were cowards in her eyes, too timid to stand on their own.
Eventually, she left home despite her brother's pleas and swam up to the Sabaody Archipelago to take a stand and claim for their people the glitz and glamour of the lights above. However, Hanabi was captured as a prize mermaid and sold for display for a noble in the West Blue. She was kept in a display case for years to be ogled at and dance. She was eventually even made to perform music. Hanabi found some release in the fiery hot fervor of her music and found it one of her few comforts during her confinement.
Still, Hanabi didn't give up. She practiced what her father and mother had taught her of Merman Combat. After years of imprisonment, she managed to break free, making a narrow escape into the ocean of the West Blue. Hanabi was totally lost and alone. She hardened herself with hate, burying her fear and uncertainty away.
Hanabi decided that she would make her start in the West Blue not as Hanabi but as Ray. She'd become a devil and every human would know the humiliation and disgrace that she endured for several long years. To start this, Ray employed a series of hit and run attacks on noble vessels and eventually Marine ships. She would surface, strike, and disappear back underneath the water's surface.
Still, all that effort didn't amount to a whole lot in the end. She was just a nuisance to the Marines. She wanted to be a real threat like one of her heroes Arlong. She hunted down a ship that she knew had a Marine captain aboard and killed him, leaving the rest of the crew to tell her tale after he was good and dead.
