Sorry I'm cutting it so close! This is a reworking of my previously existing character, Shirokuro Reinetsu (linked here)

Attempted Objectivity
At a glance, Virida may seem to be a rather uncaring individual, due to her tendency to stay emotionally detached from most situations. This, however, is not truly the case. In fact, her tendency for a calm and mild demeanor is a direct product of her care for others. The physicist hates violence of any sort, and as such always tries to see all sides of the story before making any judgements herself.
Interest Status: Peaked!
Her cool objectivity can be broken if something reveals itself to be of great interest to her, such as a revolutionary new invention, a recently discovered Devil Fruit, or a superhuman ability that defies the previously assumed laws of physics. In this case, Viri often takes great pleasure interacting with it in any way she can, be this taking apart a machine or engaging in combat with a novel foe.
Hangin' Loose
Dr. Lawrence only really gets worked up over one thing: the opportunity to learn something. The rest of the time, she is fairly laid back, and is capable of keeping her composure even in the most dire of events. Before getting some experience in the marines, she tended to freak out over the slightest of troubles, which often led to the diminishing in strength of Virida's greatest asset: her mind.
Thus, once the marine became more responsible for others' lives, she attmpted to stay perpetually calm in any situation, so that she may effectively protect her comrades more easily. By now, however, it has become an intrinsic part of her personality. Unfortunately, this has also made Viri a bit lazy. She doesn't usually feel inclined to do uninteresting things unless it's a particularly important situation, such as specific marine duties or life/death situations. Otherwise, the green-haired scientist can often be seen lounging around, reading, or working on one of her many inventions.
A Surprisingly Caring Individual
The Seaman Recruit's first priority in most situations is to make sure that all of the bystanders are safe and content. Even if Virida believes that a criminal is hiding within a group of good folks, she'll none-the-less make sure they are all well-cared for, as it is her belief that letting one bad person and a multitude of good people go free is preferable to, say, killing all of them in order to get the one baddie. As such, she is extremely against the infamous Buster Call used by the World Government. It is secretly one of her goals to, once she becomes ranked high enough, put a permanent end to its use. Viri also greatly cares about her comrades' welfare, and will occasionally try and stop them from going into a situation which she feels will lose them their lives.
Hypocrite!
To be honest, Viri is quite the hypocrite, hence the nickname. Throughout the day, Dr. Lawrence will often contradict herself between what she says and what she really thinks and/or does. For instance, when ordering her subordinates to get to work, she herself will go and take a nap (often to their chagrin). This is a trait that has been a part of Virida throughout her life, and seems to be practically ingrained into her psyche (though it tends to occur in more casual situations, as she is capable of getting serious when need be).
Physical Appearance:
Being in her twenties, Viri maintains a youthful look, with pale, smooth skin from spending the majority of her time indoors. She is fairly tall, taller than most human women, though still short when compared to most men in the Marines. The recruit's physique has become more and more pronounced during her training in the marine corps, and as a result her muscles, while not bulky, are all distinctly visible when uncovered. Virida's eyes contain a spiral design within the irises, which are colored a vibrant yellow-green. Her hair, meanwhile, is colored a brilliant harlequin-green, and she wears it in a pretty unique fashion. Though generally kept short enough to stay above the neck, she styles the left and right sides differently. On her left side, she slicks it down towards the back of her head, while on her right she lets it grow much longer in the front, and shapes it into multiple hanging tufts of hair, the front-most of which is long enough to cover her right eye and reach down past her chin.
Apparel:
As a Seaman Recruit, Virida wears the usual hat corresponding with such a rank, this being a relatively large, white baseball cap with a green box containing the word "MARINE" in blue on the front, with two blue stripes going from the top of the box to the back of the hat. Aside from this, she tends to wear a green and black leather jacket with an upturned collar. Viri also wears rather large, round, seafoam-green glasses, which have a swirly design on the lenses, and tends to wear lipstick of some kind, often purple. Aside from these staples of her wardrobe, the rest of her outfit tends to consist of metallic, punk-style clothing, with a penchant for greens, blacks, and purples.

Traits
Axis Woman
Free, Devil Fruit Trait
The hypocritical scientist's body is capable of producing and manipulating "axis energy," and becomes weakened when exposed to standing water or seastone. Other than this, the fruit does not drastically change the ability user's body in anyway.
Superhuman Agility
Human Starter Trait #1
Virida has superb awareness of her body, and the core strength and control to utilize it effectively. This results in her being able to move in abnormally quick and difficult-to-predict ways, often to the end of dodging and countering opponent's attacks, though this trait of hers can also be used on the offensive as well, such as to rapidly close the distance between her and a far-away opponent if the need arises.
Inhuman Reflexes
Human Starter Trait #2
With a quick-thinking mind and a body that can keep up, Virida's ability to react to incoming hostile threats is far beyond what the average human is capable of. Most close-combat blows from an opponent are easily telegraphed to her, and even projectiles like bullets from a musket or flintlock are able to be easily recognized in space and avoided if there's enough distance between her and the origin.

Jiku Jiku no Mi
("Axis Axis Fruit")
Paramecia Class Devil Fruit, 200 XPz
Manipulation of "Axis Energy" and Close Combat
E Class, Free
Having consumed the Jiku Jiku no Mi, Virida has become an "Axis Human," giving her the ability to generate poles of energy from any of her limbs. Each pole acts as an axis of sorts, and is capable of exerting a rotational force on whatever object it comes into contact with. Viri is capable of manipulating the length of and torque exerted by the axes at will, with the max torque generated being largely on par with her physical strength, resulting in a single cylinder of energy being capable of quite a harmful twist when used on something as soft as a normal human body.
In general combat, Virida relies heavily on her devil fruit abilities, "spearing" and twisting her enemies from afar, while also empowering her blows for an up-close and personal battle. Generally speaking, the spiral-eyed scientist tends to keep fights on a close-combat scale, although she's not against taking an enemy by surprise with a long-range attack.

Techniques
Jiku Lance
(軸槍 (軸ランス) Jiku Ransu, literally meaning "Axis Spear")
Jiku Jiku no Mi
(Rank 1 ~ Free, Devil Fruit XPz)
The most basic technique, Virida shoots an axis from her hand at something (i.e. an opponent) and activates it, twisting or rotating the object pierced by it. Utilizing this axis on an opponent would cause whatever was hit to twist violently, causing intense damage to whatever is hit, with the capability to break even bones at her current level.
Corkscrew
(螺旋拳 (コークスクリュー) Kōkusukuryū, literally meaning "Helix Fist")
Jiku Jiku no Mi
(Rank 2 ~ 75 XPz (125 XPz - 50 DF XPz))
Virida activates her axis power, although this time, instead of shooting it straight out of her palm, she closes her hand into a fist, and, since her hands are the only things capable of touching these axes, it traps the energy inside. In this way, her fist is “imbued” with the axis energy, and rotates anything her fist comes into contact with, effectively adding a violent twist to her punches. In addition, the rotating vector on her fist causes it to effectively "drill" through the air, resulting in very little air resistance affecting it, and therefore allowing the punch to accelerate significantly faster than normal. Once her fist has "become one" with the axis, it begins to shimmer and swirl in the teal color of the axis energy as well.
Twin Corkscrew
(二重 螺旋拳 (ツイン コークスクリュー) Tsuin Kōkusukuryū, literally meaning, "Double Helix Fist")
Jiku Jiku no Mi
Variant of Corkscrew
(Rank 2 ~ Free)
Identical to Corkscrew, except (you guessed it) using both of her fists instead of just the one. Viri starts with both arms at her sides, fists aimed straight ahead. She then surges forward, jamming two violently-rotating impacts into her opponent. The technique is further empowered by the fact that it uses axes rotating in opposing directions, effectively ripping the opponent apart down the middle (or at least, it has the potential to do so).
Jikunai
(軸 苦無 (軸無) Jiku Kunai [Jikunai], kanji read as, "Axis Throwing Knife"; phonetically read as, "No Axis")
Jiku Jiku no Mi
Variant of Jiku Lance
(Rank 1 ~ 0 Xpz)
Utilizing a single finger, Viri casually points it at her opponent, and shoots out an axis. While weaker than the average Jiku Lance, it is still capable of causing a fair amount of pain and damage in a small area. The word "Jikunai" is a portmanteau of the words "Jiku" (japanese for axis) and "Kunai" (the throwing knife characterized by its use by ninjas).

Background
- Born into a particularly well-off family, Virida was more-or-less pampered for the majority of her life. While not a noble family per se, the Lawrence family was living the good life from Viri's father's status as a Marine Captain, and her mother's involvement in the World Government's extensive science department. An innovative woman who made quite a few advances in the robotics industry, she ended up becoming even more valuable to the World Government than her Captain husband. From an early age, Viri was shielded almost completely from the horrors of the outside world, led to believe that the World Government had solved nearly all of the world's problems.
- Subsequently, as a child, she believed that anything was possible, and enjoyed "working" with her mother on numerous inventions. However, because of the woman's value to the WG, she and a few other scientists were one day assassinated by a group of revolutionaries in an attempt to cripple the government's booming scientific advancement. This occurred when Viri herself was just ten years old. With her mother gone, the green-haired girl began growing increasingly distant from her father (a rough-and-tumble kind of guy) and receded into her mother's private library, reading endlessly. Many of the books within this collection were far too advanced for her to completely understand, but nonetheless the topics grabbed Virida's interest to the point that, after cross-referencing a great number of texts over a few years time (in addition to her official education), she began to more thoroughly comprehend some of it.
- At age 15, Viri began working with actual machinery, though she kept this largely to herself. A year after this, she graduated early from school and enrolled in a World Government college. She also applied for work as a lab assistant for a scientific division within the World Government, and was taken on despite of her age, partly in honor of her deceased mother, partly because of her surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly) high aptitude for engineering. She continued working on various ideas and inventions in her free-time, while at the same time working with the scientists in the Dept. and learning more than she ever had in school.
- Soon after her 22nd birthday, she simultaneously finished her doctorate in Physics/Mechanical Engineering, and finished her mother's unfinished plans for a robotic digger/construction worker, the H.E.L. (Hexapodal Excavation Laborer) series. While still in the prototype stage, this could greatly increase the labor output of the World Government. Around this time, due to feeling a bit bored with life once the difficulty of school was over, she enrolled in the marines, and began training to become physically fit enough for such a job.
- As Virida seemed to have naturally inherited very little of her father's physical prowess, this was exceedingly difficult for her. Therefore, she began searching for a way to "cheat" her power, i.e. a Devil Fruit. After finding a Devil Fruit that seemed fairly interesting in the book of Devil Fruits, she asked and searched around for it, until finding that the man who currently possessed it was a rampaging, murderous, rookie pirate by the name of "Whirlpool" Nalt.
- While not particularly strong, he seemed to target islands without a very large marine force, and overwhelmed them with his powers before proceeding to murder some citizens. Eventually, Viri managed to join in on a mission to find and stop the serial killer-pirate before he struck next. Intelligence had placed him on a deserted island in the South Blue, not too far from his latest rampage. The Marine Captain (a particularly lazy man affectionately referred to as "No Go Joe") ordered the crew to spread out into the rainforest of the island and begin searching. Following the smell of smoke and the sound of a cannon going off, Virida managed to get to the man first.
- Hiding in the bushes, she took out her standard WG-issued pistol, aimed at the back of the man's buzzcut-adorned head (whom she had forced herself to memorize during the ship's journey), and fired. Nalt was killed on the first shot, in a moment of beginner's luck with the pistol. His first mate grabbed the 19 year old, tied her up, and began lamenting over Nalt's body, about how he never had truly meant to hurt anyone, and how he had always had the mind of a child, scaring easily and never knowing his own strength. Viri, to say the least, was... shocked, by this revelation.
- Her previously black-and-white view of the world and its "Justice" had been utterly shattered, and, although her fellow marines arrived moments after the first mate had made his spiel, the shattered scientist likely wouldn't have fought much if she had been about to be killed, such was the guilt she felt in that moment. Untied and told how much of a hero she was, as she had saved the world from yet another public menace, tears spilled down her face. Virida vowed in her head to never judge anyone unfairly again, and to try her hardest to change the world into a fair and unbiased system of justice.
- Though in the end she didn't want it, Viri was given the found Devil Fruit as her reward in lieu of Nalt's bounty. Nonetheless feeling pressured to eat the fruit, the viridescent-haired recruit realized that taking the fruit would be a constant reminder of what she'd done this day; she'd never be able to forget. In a moment of anger at herself and a desire to become a better person, she ate the fruit in its entirety.
- Following this, Virida's station was moved to a particular marine base and the newly empowered Seaman Recruit was watched rather closely and curiously. A practically certified-genius Devil Fruit User from a celebrated World Government family joining the Marines? Needless to say, some of her higher-ups had high hopes for the young, spiral-eyed scientist, and so they continued giving her missions in order to test her usefulness to this organization.
