Jiku Jiku no Mi
English Name:– Axis Axis Fruit
Classification:– Paramecia
Owned By:– Virida Lawrence
Appearance:– Oddly enough, this fruit is represented by a single banana. If found within a group of bananas, only one will carry the characteristic devil fruit markings. Despite this, the stem of the entire banana bundle will still carry the signature devil fruit stem. This stem consists of a short, light-brown stalk rising from the top, which is topped off by a longer, perpendicular stem, with both sides of the horizontal stem tapering into a curly shape. The outside of the banana peel is a deep, sea-green with a myriad of tiny spirals completing the exterior's design. Once peeled, the inside of the peel looks very much like an ordinary banana, a pale feathery yellow, and a significant lack of spirals. The real meat inside, however, is just as decorated as the peel. With a brilliant, flame-orange coloring, and noticeably larger spirals than the peel's, it looks downright delicious. Like all devil fruits, however, looks can be cruelly deceiving, and, upon taking a bite of the fruit, the user is confronted with an powerfully pungent taste/scent, like a horrible amalgam of burnt rubber and, coincidentally, rotten bananas.
Ability:– Turns the user into an Axis Human, capable of producing poles of energy from their body that act as axes (that's axis in plural form, not axe, mind you), in that they can exert a twisting, rotational force around the axis on an object that comes into contact with it. Specifically, the abilities of this fruit are as follows:
- Axis Production
The axes can be produced directly outwards from any of the Ability User's limbs (such as arms, legs, head, fingers, and toes), and continuously keep in line with the limb in question. Only one axis can come from any one place at any given time, although other than that, the user doesn't have a limit to how many they can produce. He can also extend and shorten the axes at will, up to a max of around 50 meters. The speed of their extension is quite fast, fairly close to the speed of a bullet. - Axis Rotation
If the produced axis comes in contact with matter, it can rapidly exert a twisting force on whatever it is, be it solid, liquid, gas, or any other state of matter. The amount of torque (rotational force, in essence) that the user can apply increases with experience as well, although this mostly follows their own physical strength. The rotational power available for the axis is also dependent, to an extent, on its diameter, purely due to the increased amount of area that the axis is capable of affecting at once. The diameter of the cylindrical axis is in turn dependent on which limb it was spawned from. For example, an axis spawned from a finger will be relatively small and about as thin as the finger, whereas an axis spawned from the head (which is generally thicker than an arm or leg) tends to be the widest possible axis that they can spawn. - Physics of the Axis
The energy axes themselves appear as straight, teal, thin, translucent cylinders. They are made of an odd, unique energy that this fruit generates, and as such are largely intangible, causing absolutely no damage if someone is simply "speared through" with one. However, they will feel a slight tingling/numbing sensation where the energy touches (In reference to the japanese phrase "jiku jiku," meaning "numbness").
The user is the only one who can physically touch these intangible axes, and can even grab them and separate them from his body, and place them within objects in order to initiate rotation without needing to keep his/her arm in place. This is mostly used to power various vehicles of Virida's creation (cars, motor boats, etc.) by using his axes as axles for the wheels or rotors. Furthermore, if the axis's energy is blocked or unable to shoot from the user's hand upon activation (usually by closing the user's hand into a fist), it will instead backfire into their hand, imbuing it with the energy and essentially making it a "living axis." In this state, the front of the fist can twist things in much the same way the axes can, although the solidity of the fist makes it much more powerful, attack-wise, as an impact is added to the spin.
Weaknesses:–
- A major weakness of this fruit is that, if something disrupts the axis' connection to the user, such as a hand swiping through it, it disappears, and is incapable of being recreated for a few seconds, giving an opponent an opening to exploit. It should be noted that this is also the fruit user's only way of dissipating the axes as well.
- Also, if the user tries twisting or spinning object that is too heavy, locked in place, or otherwise unable to be moved, the force may lash back and spin or twist him instead. While this could still be worked to an advantage in some cases, misjudging an object's "inertia" (for lack of a better term) can still put the Axis Human in a bad spot.
- In standing water, the user cannot generate axes in any way, or even manipulate pre-existing axes. The same goes for when the Axis Human is in contact with seastone.
- Of course, since this fruit isn't supposed to be used to spin oneself in particular, it grants no special immunities against things like nausea or dizziness.
