Personality
Mind of a Scientist: Sieg has endless curiosity about the world around himself, as well as willingness to learn as much as he can. While he specializes in chemistry, he would consider it foolish to close his eyes from everything else he could learn just by observing his surroundings. Usually Sieg marks down anything interesting in his notebook he carries at all times. Once he's doing research, he can easily get so absorbed he ignores much of the world around himself. This also leads to him becoming frustrated when he's unable to explain something logically, especially when it's attributed to something supernatural.
Meek: Sieg dislikes large crowds and feels rather uncomfortable in them. He isn't antisocial however, just that he prefers smaller groups of just a few people. Though even then he can appear meek when facing someone of a higher status than himself, be it socially, professionally or physically.
Inferiority Complex: Due to growing up with a sister who was superior to him in every way, Sieg has developed an inferiority complex and often thinks what he can do isn't good enough. This can work both for and against him. It can benefit him by driving him to try and improve to match the expectations he has set for himself. Though as a downside it leaves him unwilling to put his all into problems, thinking someone like him won't be able to do it even if there was a chance.
Just Following Orders: When it comes to marines, Sieg tries to follow orders to the word and doesn't wish to question his superiors so he doesn't gain their ire. He also has a black and white morality, thinking marines are good and pirates are evil without any real exceptions, as he has little to no real life experience from outside his home town.
Appearance
Sieg keeps his brown hair cut extremely short and dark green eyes. His physique is subpar for what's expected from a marine, mostly because before joining he didn't exercise and spent most of his days in a laboratory.
On duty Sieg wears a standard marine uniform. When not in uniform, Sieg wears a pair of black pants and a light leather brown jacket, as well as a belt with four pouches, two of which are usually filled and two are kept empty for storing anything he may find necessary. Underneath the jacket he has a white shirt. He also wears his goggles and breathing mask casually, though unless they're needed for the situation, he keeps the goggles on his forehead and the mask hanging around his neck. The goggles and mask are also part of his marine uniform.
While he owns a bandoleer for his specialty weapons, he is often hesitant to wear it while in uniform as to not carry non-standard equipment. He only puts it on when on duty outside the base and with the expectation of trouble.
Weapons
Marine cutlass
Rank 0, 0 X-Poinz
Standard issue weapon for all marines. A bit shorter than the average due to Sieg's small size.
Marine Pistol
Rank 0, 0 X-Poinz
Standard issue weapon for marines, along with a holster at his hip.
Large-projectile Pistol
Rank 1, 100 X-poinz
This weapon was built by Sieg, acting as a delivery method of his specialized ammunition. The design is akin to a flare gun, re-loadable by bending the barrel down while inserting the ammunition through the back and holding only one shot at a time. The barrel is approximately twice as large as a regular firearms. This makes it unable to fire standard ammunition of any kind.
Mask & Goggles
Rank 0, 0 X-Poinz
A set of tinted goggles and a breathing mask. While they offer some protection from chemicals, they're re-purposed laboratory equipment rather than combat gear. Therefore they can't filter almost any combat-gasses.
Traits
Acute Sense of Smell
0 X-Poinz
Human Bonus Trait #1
Due to having spent so much time in a laboratory and having to spot any gasses in the air even from trace amounts, Sieg has developed a sense of smell that can spot the faintest smells in the air, as well as recognize familiar ones from the small amounts.
Fighting Styles
Standard Marine Training
Class "E", 0 X-Poinz
Focus - Close combat, non-lethal
The standard training for marines, using both cutlass and rarely unarmed combat. However Sieg's prowess is below average even for a common marine due to his lack of physique and prior training.
Science Arms-Style
Class "E", 0 X-Poinz
Focus - Technology, firearms
Using his special-made weapons and ammunition, Sieg usually tries to fight his foes from afar and attempts to disable and hinder them. Usually he uses them in addition to tactics and subterfuge rather than going for direct fire.
Abilities/ Techs:
Concussive Shot
Rank 1, 0 X-Poinz (50XP rebate for Large-projectile Pistol)
FiSt – Science Arms-Style
A special ammunition that upon impact releases a concussive blast around the point of impact in approximately 1 meter diameter. This blast is comparable to a small explosion, except without temperature or flames.
Smoke Shot
Rank 1, 50 X-Poinz
FiSt – Science Arms-Style
When this ammunition impacts with a surface, it releases a heavy cloud of smoke that blocks visibility. Sieg too is affected, though his mask allows him to breathe in the smoke.
Frost Shot
Rank 1, 50 X-Poinz
FiSt – Science Arms-Style
Upon impact, this ammunition releases a freezing compound in a one meter diameter, creating a thin layer of ice or freezing liquids. If used on a person on its own, the thin ice is easy to break with average human strength and some effort. They will still be chilled by the cold.
Background
Sieg lost his parents at a young age of three, both lost at the sea. He and his older sister Liandra, who was ten at the time, were sent to live with their grandmother from their fathers side. While a kind guardian to the children, she was suddenly left with two more mouths to feed and the inheritance left behind by the childrens parents wasn't too much. Still the old lady had learned to get the best out of every berri and made do with what little they had last. Even the children were willing to pitch in, Sieg learning to fish to help with the food expenses and Liandra began taking odd jobs as soon as she could to bring in some income. Despite them living in poorer conditions, they were a happy family all things considered.
At the young age of 14, Liandra sought to begin studying in the hopes of building herself a foundation in academics at a later age. Even if the money was tight, she just increased the amount of work she did to afford the education. Unfortunately even this wasn't enough as she had trouble keeping up with the coursework while holding the necessary level of income. Eventually she was considered unfit to keep in the courses. However one professor, Edwin Fillows, had noticed how far ahead of others she was grades-wise despite not completing her assignments in time. Learning of her situation and wanting such brilliant mind to not go to waste, he took it upon himself to educate the young girl on the side. The education wouldn't be official, but she could still attain all the necessary knowledge. In a few years time, he considered Liandra to already be above a regular graduate and considered her already learned enough. This gave her the sought after foundation for academics.
Though as much as she'd have loved to move onto a proper career the real issue once again became money. Since her education wasn't official and she was never given a diploma, she could not find work in her field. To get by on her own, she'd require a decent amount of startup funds to become an independent researcher and show her own work in the field. She set up a goal to herself, saving a little bit of her income to earn the money required to begin her academic career, as well as another little bit to continue her studies and gain some materials for it. During this time Sieg also grew curious to what Liandra was always doing, often watching her work. Although Liandra thought he just wanted to see the neat-looking reactions, the boy actually began picking up patterns in the chemicals used and learned how they'd usually react. Finding this very impressive, the aspiring chemist asked her brother if he'd like to also learn the craft as she had, Sieg eagerly accepting the offer. For a long while the two would spend many hours working together, the younger sibling learning the craft along the way. He never reached the same heights as his sister had at the same age, but he still proved both studious and useful in the laboratory. They didn't have much, but Liandra was content with her plan to start her career in six and a half years time.
This however wasn't enough for Sieg. He didn't think Liandra should have to work that much for her dream. She was the smartest person he knew and should have been allowed to work as a scientist, thinking he needs to get her the money she needed. Initially he thought of looking for a part-time job himself, finding one at a local gun shop as a book keeper. However his income was very minor with how few hours he was allowed to work and it's at best shave off a year from his big sisters plans. However one day he overheard a rather heated conversation between the owner and some customers. Apparently they were rather shady bunch so the owner refused their business for making explosives despite them offering a fair bit more than regular customers and threatened to call the marines if they did not leave. Not wanting to start a fight in broad daylight, the men took their leave. However as they were heading out, the boy took his leave and caught up with them. He was interested in the easy money being offered and while they were less than impressed by a kid of 16, the boy managed to prove himself capable of creating gunpowder as well as other substances used in making more powerful explosives. Realizing Sieg could create what they wanted for cheaper and with less trail to leave, especially since he was rather unassuming for getting any necessary supplies.
With the new income these shady folks provided, Sieg noticed Liandra could fulfill her plan in mere four months, holding the money from her until then and trying to think of a way to explain the sudden appearance of the money. Though having been told to keep himself and never tell people what they were doing. In time the young chemist would learn these people seemed shady for a reason: they were pirates. However as this was still providing the necessary income to help Liandra, the boy always found a way to rationalize his actions to himself. "They'd get them from somewhere else anyway so I might as well get the money." "I'm no less guilty than people who sell swords that are used to kill people." "They'd probably try to hurt me, Liandra or grandma if I stopped now, better make the most of it." "Better I provide it than them stealing this stuff and hurting others in the act."
Eventually the newspaper started to report of the pirate crews exploits on nearby islands, especially how destructive they were becoming with their use of hidden explosives. Liandra was also starting to take notice of how oddly Sieg acted every time the subject appeared in the paper, as well as him making odd disappearances while claiming it was for work. One time Liandra decided to follow her brother, hoping she was merely being paranoid and her brother had nothing to do with it. She was badly disappointed as she saw Sieg entering a building and peeked in the window just enough to see a familiar face from the paper: captain of the pirate crew. Liandra was furious, wanting to immediately report Sieg's crimes and bring an end to using his knowledge for something so sinister. However, she was unable to bring herself to send a member of her family to prison. Instead, she listened up for when they'd next meet and report this place and time to the marines while leaving Siegs involvement unmentioned and making sure he wouldn't leave the house that night.
Once the time came, marines conducted a raid, finding the crew waiting for their chemist. It wasn't hard for them to apprehend most of the pirates due to the large presence they had on the main island. However, few members of the crew, captain included, managed to escape and thinking the only one who would have tipped them off anonymously was the one making the explosives, they wanted to get revenge on him. While escaping, the captain had managed to take with him a few of the leftover bombs. Knowing where the boy lived, the captain headed over to give the teen a taste of his own medicine.
While this was going on, Liandra had made sure to keep Sieg inside as well as arranging their grandmother to be visiting a friend of hers to keep her from hearing about this for the time being. Finally the boys sister revealed she had found out what the younger sibling had been up to. She was angrily yelling at Sieg about how he had used his skills for nefarious acts and just for money. While Sieg tried to argue with the same points he had used to rationalize the acts for himself, Liandra was having none of it. Last things the young chemist managed to say was that he just wanted his sister to get the career she deserved, but right after that their conversation was cut short as Sieg saw the bombs lobbed in through the window, recognizing them as his own. While he was frozen in fear for the brief second, Liandra leaped towards Sieg, hoping to shield him from the explosion with her own body. After Sieg heard the explosion, his mind went black and the next memory was waking up in the hospital.
Apparently Sieg only sustained minor injuries that would heal and leave no permanent damage. However, his sister was not so fortunate. She had severe burns all over her body, a cracked skull, a severe concussion and internal bleeding. To make matters worse, the remaining pirates were never caught. While in the hospital, Sieg thought of nothing but how this was his fault. He had decided to work for pirates knowing the kind of people they were and yet it was Liandra who was now lying in bed half dead instead of him. The marine investigation couldn't find a connection between the younger chemist and the pirates actions, assuming they somehow learned about who gave up their location and were after Liandra.
This was not helped by their grandmother coming in every day and explaining how glad she was that at least Sieg was unharmed. Even when Sieg was released, Liandra showed no signs of waking up. Months came and went, yet even when her body started to make a slow recovery, she showed no signs of waking up.
For the time being Sieg stopped chemistry altogether, living with his grandmother in their now partially ruined home. Several parts of the roof and walls had collapsed in the siblings' room, yet he couldn't afford to fix it as he didn't want to spend any of the money he earned with bombs on anything but Liandra's treatment. Every day he would visit his sister, hoping she'd show any signs of recovering. Yet no matter how often he came, no change occurred in her condition. Not only that, but keeping her alive cost them money and the amount Sieg made working for the pirates would only last for so long. There were a few potential treatment options that might wake Liandra up, but the family had no chance of affording the treatment. Not to mention the boy felt responsible for getting their home repaired, needing even more money for that.
Having been given a few months to think of any way to fix the situation he had caused, Sieg finally found a way. He would join the marines, despite his grandmothers objections. At the time he had turned seventeen, old enough to sign up. The work would pay decently and by staying at the barracks he could save in living costs. Though part of him also wanted to repent for his own criminal actions by serving on the side of justice. To make it in the marines despite his lack of physical abilities, he once again took up chemistry, though swearing to never share his arsenal with others. Now a fresh new recruit, Sieg seeks to climb higher in the ranks to increase his pay-grade and one day earn enough money to start attempting treatment options for his sister.
