Background
Denda was born into a small tribe of dwarves on a small island in West Blue where he spent most of his childhood in peace. When he was 10 his small tribe was discovered by humans who claimed they were humans of great importance and that they wanted to throw the dwarves a feast at their castle. The humans told all the dwarves to get into the back of a covered wagon to be taken to the feast but when they were all in it was revealed that these humans were actually slavers and they had tricked Denda and his tribe. As he watched his tribe was auctioned off one by one he vowed never to be so trusting or gullible again. Eventually he sold and shipped off to an island in South Blue where he spent 10 years in slavery
After his first year of slavery Denda learned the best way to stay alive he had to make himself invaluable to his masters. So for 9 years Denda happily accepted backbreaking work and eventually was trusted enough to run messages and errands around town for his master. One day Denda returned from running an errand only to find marines swarming the place. Denda tried to sneak into building to see what up but he was spotted and taken into custody when he tried to help another slave that was struggling against a marine. He was told that his masters had broken something called a law and that he was no longer a slave, but because he has attacked a marine he was going to be taken to a marine base on a near by island to receive punishment.
His years of practice kicking in, Denda immediately apologized and offered to go along with the marines peacefully. They took him aboard their ship and set sail along with Denda's former masters in chains. Seeing them in chains Denda asked if he needed to be in chains, since he was also in trouble. He was told that since he was cooperating and he used to be a slave there was no need. Their mistake and Denda's opportunity. Once they reached their destination Denda used his speed and size to slip away from the marines and sneak on to a convenient departing merchant ship.
From there Denda moved from island to island by stowing away on ships, it was easy due to his small size. Sometimes he would stay on an island for some time, always away from people, where he would set up little gardens but civilization always called to him. He would sneak into the towns on islands he was on from time to time, at first only at night, but as his skills grew he would go out during the day time and hide right under people's noses. Sometimes he'd take knick knacks from the towns, just his own little slice of civilization he could take with him.
One island he ended up on was particularly rough for him. There wasn't much land he could hide in as it was small and largely developed. When he tried to leave a band of pirates came and ended up destroying the docks of the island. Stuck while the docks were being repaired and with no where to hide a farm he quickly became desperate for food. He turned to stealing food and when he found out it was a much easier way to eat then growing his own food he just kept on doing that.
One day he found himself stowed away on a pirate ship. They were bragging about how they stole this special fruit that they were going to sell for a lot of money at their next stop. Denda figured he could make even more money than these dumb pirates by slicing it up and selling it piece by piece so so stole it and, as is the norm for him, stowed away on a departing vessel before the pirates knew what hit them.
When he was alone Denda sliced up the fruit but decided it would be a waste to try and sell it without at least trying it. Denda took one bite and was immediately disgusted with it. He thought to himself how wrong those pirates were thinking they could sell this disgusting fruit for money when he suddenly realized that he was much farther from the ground then he usually was. He quickly moved to grab a mirror only to find that his hands were paws with claws. He found the nearest reflective surface and looked at himself finally seeing he had been turned into a raccoon.
Always one to make a situation work for him Denda quickly adapted to his new abilities, using them to help him steal food and get away quickly. Sometimes he would start to hear people talk about his thefts when he stayed on an island for long enough and he found himself relishing in the infamy. It soon became apparent to him that stealing just food wasn't going to be enough to sate his newfound lust for notoriety so he moved on to stealing more valuable things.
After a year of making a small name for himself on random islands Denda is now ready to strike out and make an even bigger name for himself as the best thief in all the seas.
Any input would be appreciated ^.^
