"Shall we return to-" Syph paused as she noticed something rising up the path that Arlen had been watching. "Hey Arlen is that?" She raised a hand to point down the opening in the forest. Arlen turned about furrowing his brows as he looked off into the distance. Raising his rifle to his eye level he looked down the scope on the edge for a slightly better view.
"It's Mary." He responded. Scratching her head Syph reminded herself that Arlen had only seen Mary once as they passed through the town square in the earlier morning. As always she was impressed with the certainty of his answer and the quality of his vision. Even for herself whom she thought had exceptional vision his was sharper still. "Two people with her. A guardsman and someone I don't recognize leading the cart." He called out more information.
Syph considered her options for a moment glancing at Arlen and then down towards the cart that was turning its way up the hill and out upon the clearing. "Come, why don't we greet our guests." She said turning towards the incoming people and starting a lazy stroll in their direction. Slinging his rifle upon his back Arlen followed behind her with a few quick jogs before coming in line alongside her. Composing herself for a moment she raised a hand over her head waving it up at them. Now she could make out Mary sitting upon the cart looking out at the scene before her.
At the forefront of the incoming group was the guardsman Arlen had mentioned. Quickly he was jogging ahead of them his hand grasping a hilt at his side. "Arlen." She said quietly and immediately Arlen raised his rifle up to aim it directly at the incoming man bringing him to a skidding halt.
"Wha-what's happened here?" The guardsman stammered out as he surveyed the scenery with growing concern. "Nothing in particular, just dispelling the myth of a so called frog god." Syphalia responded with a cheerful smile shooting a quick wink at Mary whose eyes had perked up upon noticing Syphalia standing before the guardsman.
"Dispelling the ..." the flabbergasted guardsman looked on with his jaw hanging wide. In the mean time Syph walked forward stepping up onto the cart's driver step she smiled at the girl in the cart. "You must be Mary. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like you'll be being eaten today." She said with a smile.
"Thank you ..." the last word that quietly left Mary's mouth was Syph's name. The swordswoman smiled gently nodding her head in acknowledgement of the thanks.
"I'm just one, why don't you come meet Lilin, the one who defeated the fake frog deity." She said hopping off the cart.
