The sea was something that was always a bit strange. At times it could be calm and beautiful. On other days it could be destructive and grotesque. Well, this day for a certain Kazarashi Riri was wonderful. The seahorse fishwoman had recently arrived to an island known as Silvers Island. Having heard of the land’s craving for fine cuisine and seeking their techniques and critique on her cooking, the diner seahorse came to test her metal. In preparation, Riri had swam all day under the waters to catch a bountiful plethora of ingredients for her to prepare a fine meal. What she had amassed after a day’s swim was a string of seaking tuna, paint scallops, clamper clams, konga king krabs, and ONE boxer shrimp. In terms of vegetation, she had decided to give herself a variety other than just what came from the sea. Sea cucumber, seahorse fruit, green onions, potatoes, and radish.
Well, with her big bag of supplies, she had come to the surface only to discover...she couldn’t cook and display what she had without proper permits. Disappointing was what it was. After finding that boxer shrimp, it sure did give her a beating before she could stuff it into her sack. Fresh ingredients were best, so majority of these ingredients were still living and breathing. With nowhere else to go, and majority of people looking at her oddly, she decided to cook in the one place where nobody could judge her, the beach. The beach greeted and said farewell to all ships and people that came anywhere. So, she chose right in the middle to begin her art. Due to her not being able to cook without a permit, and having no crowd to cook for, she sold some of her hard earned ingredients to those who were willing to purchase.
“Hmm...what have we got left?" One tuna, a few scallops, the boxer shrimp, a konga king crab, and majority of her vegetables. Setting down her...ridiculously large backpack of ingredients, she considered what would be a good dish to eat for herself. Something light, could be easily packed, and wouldn’t go bad too soon. After five minutes of contemplation, it hit her. “Neptune Stew. Though...something to sweeten it up would be nice. Oh...well...nothing a smidgen of rum can't fix hee hee.” Looking to the rocks, the ocean blessed her. Sitting on the stones were the spark abalone. Taking the liberty to draw the trusty katana she wore at her side, the Ryo Wazomono specially crafted for her, she...carefully gathered them and placed them on banana tree leaves.
Neptune’s Stew was generally a poor people’s food on Fishman Island but it could easily feed a vast amount of people for a series of days and tasted delicious. Lacking too many proper kitchen tools at the moment, Riri had no shame in using her sword for the deed. If it could take the lives of people, it could just as well be used to take the lives of her ingredients. Besides, it got her swordsmanship skills to stay sharp...not really...well, maybe? The dish had a number of steps, but they were relatively simple. If only she had the chance to show the people of the island the wonders of Fishman Island cooking! Well, she would settle for cooking in isolation for now. Perhaps some beach goers would like to test what she was cooking! Sounded like a great idea. The sun shined down on this yellow creature as she began working on her dish. Yum yummy in the tummy. She couldn't wait to get her cooking muse into action.
