Flora and Fauna:
General Features
The climate of Wrestlemania is that of a warm, sub-tropical locale, similar to somewhere like California and has many similarities with such a region. Slightly humid, while the island is technically a fall island, it has lush abilities for plant growth and features dense regions of forestry, as well as a multitude of plants. The four mountain ranges in its corners dashed with fir trees due to the cooler climate of altitude, as one’s elevation descends, they will find sparse plains before the plant life thickens into thick sub jungles. Quite a beautiful locale in terms of botanic development, it would be a perfect island for natural exploration if not for one thing; the locals.
The animals of the land being every bit obsessed with wrestling as the people who live here, it is said that the four ancient champions of Wrestlemania settled here because of what they saw in nature, and it is said were even trained by it. An evolutionary arms race seeming to endow many of the creatures here with strategies that seem to be ripped straight from the sports entertainers’ handbook, watching both the predators and the prey can be a charming spectacle. Exuberant and skilful, there are many animals here that seem to embody the spirit of grappling, and yet one should not be too hypnotised by their performance. As fierce as they are fantastic, the carnivores that roam these lands will quickly make a meal of the average man, and those who have learned to defend themselves from these animals are equally deadly. Herbivores having become territorial, they show terrific defensive skills even against the powerful predators. Between the two groups, they have made living close to sea level is dangerous here, and hence why most seem to live on the island’s mountains. Low altitude settlements being protected by cadres of skilled wrestlers, all but the sternest fighters would quickly run into trouble in this land, with its indigenous life bordering on the superhuman in capability.
Plant Life
Grapple Vines
These Vines are a hazard that everyone has to deal with, they will swing and hook themselves around a target and will pull them up into the trees, an unlucky soul will be choked to death and will stay there until some one can pull them down. Others will be able to wiggle free after some time, if they don't get choked out.
Arena Trees
These are a small grouping of trees that are joined at the root, a sort of venus fly trap that instead of closing when people step into them they open up and stretch the roots out making a small Wrestling ring. Once the people have finished using this natural occurrence it will slowly close and consume the fallen warrior as nutrients.
Indigenous Threats
Moderate Threat
These animals pose a threat to the average person, but could be overcome by a 'D' Class character.
Ar-kayoala – Opportunistic and observant little marsupials that love leaves, these animals are well known for their stealth as well as their hit and run tactics. Akayoala are one of the most territorial in the land, and contrary to the tactics seen by most herbivores, seem to prefer to attack a potential predator than risk being discovered. Quick on their feet, but strong for their size, these animals hop out of trees with the aim of slamming the heads of any intruder into a tree or exposed rock before disappearing again. Leaving their predators stunned and disorientated, most flee the areas where these nasty little buggers live in search of easier prey. Be warned, they have no qualms about attacking humans, and even seem to be smart enough to knock a human out in order to give carnivores a better option to hunt. Thse animals whilst looking cute and cuddly with their natural black eye masks over their upper bodies white fur (their legs being covered in black fur) Are animals to be avoided.
Dropkick Goats – An unusually aggressive form of ungulate, unlike most of the most dangerous animals in this land, this one lives in the mountains rather than the forests. Wandering the mountainous regions of Wrestlemania, much like the Akayoala, these animals are opportunists who prefer to strike before struck. Possessing long and strong legs, their main form of attack is kicking, and the animals are particularly fond of airborne assault. Lunging through the air with their hooves stretched out in front of them, due to the rocky terrain they live on, they seem to love to send both predators and people rolling down the mountainside with their kicks. Occasionally seen in the towns, these animals can be rather troublesome when they kick the populace around, but those who have spent time in the land seem to be able to anticipate their assault. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for visitors.
Airbear – An omnivorous strange kind of bear that is unique to the land, this animal better resembles a sloth, but is far from as slow and relaxed as that particular beast. Capable climbers with long legs and narrow bodies, these human sized animals lack the raw physical power of their brown or black cousins, but more than make up for it in ingenuity and agility. Inhabiting the deep wooded areas of the land, these animals climb into the trees and stalk their ‘prey’ from above, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. When the time is ready, the animals hurl themselves at their target acrobatically, knocking them off their feet before using their long and curved climbing claws to lash at their prone foe.
High Threat
These animals pose a significant threat to the average person, and would generally need someone of 'C' Class to deal with.
Champion Dugong – A cousin of the well-known Kung Fu Dugong, these shelled creatures are almost identical to their cousins aside from their size and shells. Much larger than the average Kung Fu Dugong, the Champion branch is about the size of a Labrador, and feature strange markings on their tummies. Their shell seeming to take on the look of what appears to be something like a large crest; each has a slightly different design, and looks like the animal has carved itself a championship belt. Interestingly, the most prominent of these designs seems to be those of the strongest beasts, as their battles seem to have an effect on the stomach of their shell. Even more competitive than their cousins, they seem to wrestle with one another and anything that comes across them, with their act of dominance being pushing their foes into the floor on their belly and holding them their until they surrender. This trait seeming to make those who are weaker struggle and scrape their ‘crest’ away, the older and weaker dugong barely seem to have much of their shell left, with it being worn away to a smooth surface through endless competition.
Boa Submitter -A strange breed of constrictor type snake, with the powerful animals that inhabit this island, this serpent has learned it cannot hope to overpower them without a few tricks of its own. The average adult a good dozen feet or more, they use their strong and rope like body to entangle animals and humans alike in rather a unique fashion. Wrapping around their prey in exotic and painful positions, the animal seems to have an instinctual knowledge of how to break and dislocate limbs, using this expertise and their strength to snap bones and pop joints apart. This can make them a dangerous foe for any animal, as they tangle up man and beast alike.
Laria Deer -Large relatives of reindeer, these animals are about the size of moose, but the most impressive things about them are the antlers they spot. Built wide and strong, the antlers of these beasts is a good six feet or maybe more, which gives them a very broad reach. Both sexes growing these branch-like protrusions, it has been said that adults of the species can cut through the trunks of trees with a single stroke, being able to pick up great amounts of speed as they run. When launching into a charge, these animals crash through the forest to challenge their enemies, breaking both the bodies of their enemies and their surroundings in their wake. Training since they are fawns, as their antlers grow, the Laria Deer clash and wrestle to gain strength and skill, and by adulthood are able to stand up to the toughest predators and even skilled combatants.
Severe Threat
These animals pose a exponential threat to the average person, and even 'C' Class characters might struggle to overcome them initially, with true superhuman skill required to overpower them.
Brock Ligers -The largest and fiercest predator on the island, it is unclear whether these animals are more closely related to lions or tigers. Sporting noticeably patterned bodies but also thick manes, the Brock Ligers make their cousins look like kittens with both their size and power, being the apex predator in this land of heavyweights. Gifted not only with size and power, the biggest advantage that this animal has is that it possesses digits that are almost like fingers. Able to wrap their claws around their prey and grip them, the Brock Liger grapples with its prey and uses its power to throw it around violently. Mauling and battering their targets, these beasts are feared man eaters but also symbols of power on the island, and anyone capable of defeating one would be celebrated as a hero.
Inhabitants:
This island is home to many humanoid races, humans being the most prominent but Minkmen, Fishmen and Giants have all been spotted drinking their nights away and fighting through the days where they can.
Prominent Organizations, Groups, and Establishments:
Jobbers - The closest thing that the land has to a form of guard, the jobbers are comprised of both young and inexperienced wrestlers as well as those who are past their prime. Defending the common folk, these men and women are skilled, but also have a strange tradition in their ranks. With the right amount of beri passed, they will happily fake a defeat to anyone, in order to help their 'enemy' gain esteem.
The Champion Council - Each town has its champion, which is also that towns mayor, and each champion is automatically a member of the champion council that governs the island. There are four champions, one for each corner of the islands natural ring. This small group goes over everything from, funding, laws and are the highest level of justice on the island. This group are friendly rivals, competing with each other to make the other better.
Fixers - A group of managers who will do anything in their power to ensure they win big, these not so fine people employ the dirtiest of tactics. They are a dark organisation that are of a unknown but relatively small number, they pull strings and cause general mischief on the island to get what they want.
Referees- There is a group called the referees, they do their job and officiate matches, anywhere and everywhere at any time. This has lead people to believe the group are a mystical set of beings that can break the laws of physics. It takes great skill and training to be a referee and most are born into the profession, it is rare for an outsider to be accepted but has been done on the odd occasion every other hundred years or so. They are given a fund by the council to do their job and have full powers to administer justice to cheaters. A duel with out a referee present doesn't count as they cannot oversee the trials by combat
Fashion
Anything, for men it fashion can range from simple everyday clothes to a pair of tight spandex trousers that are covered in sparkles and boots. Women can have a similar extreme change in their clothing styles too; it can range from normal every daywear to outlandish costumes that would only be seen in a comic book.
Politics
Laws of this land are quite different from any other, there is not real law enforcement, the people of the land are expected to settle disputes themselves through time in a ring. The government consist of the 4 mayors, which coincidently are the champions of each of the four corners. This council handle passing laws and the bigger issues and they rarely gather. The Champions can change at any time due to how the islands system works. If you keep winning your fights the higher your standing is and if you win against the champion you claim their title and position on the council. All fights are officiated by a mysterious cult of Referees that seem to be everywhere at the same time, ready to referee a match at the drop of a hat.
Industry
Wrestlemania has many industries, most notably it’s ship building. Due to the amount of fighting and destruction of houses due t said fighting the builders of Wrestlemania are a tried and tested people, these skills apply to their ships as well. Typically built by wrestlers seeking to train their bodies whilst still earning some coin at the same time.
Cuisine
Wretlemania is known for its "Ring Side Snacks" An assortment of fatty foods and generally unhealthy approaches to how they eat. These are typically things like "Wrestler wieners(hotdogs)" or "Slam Burgers (hamburgers)" There are smaller snacks like "Atomic pretzels", "post fires" and "Round Ring Pizzas"
NPCS:
The Eternal Referee: A title passed down to the leader of the Referees, this person is typically the one that controls the referees and helps to chair the champion council as an outside opinion. This referee carries the authority to judge the champions in their matches.
Champion of Grapplemat: Elm Bowdrop: A proud and happy man this champion controls his tower and leads his people with a smile, he has been in power for a long time and loves to tell tall tales of his own exploits, his stands at 7’2” and is about 67 years old has no hair and only wears a simple boxing outfit of blue shorts. Elm tends to avoid island issues when they arise leaving them to the whippersnappers of his understudies to deal with.
Champion of Headlock Heights: Bach Brayker: A younger champion, Bach is all serious all the time and is a stickler for the rules, this has kept his people going and lead them away from some recent dark times. At the size of 6’0” and 150lbs Bach is a big name for his young age of 18 and will only trust those he has worked with previously with island matters. His hair is blue and he wears a complexly designed full body leotard.
Champion of Slam Town: Pah Ding: Champion Ding is wise and strong and whilst he is not as strong as the others he uses his smarts to overcome any obstacles in his way. Standing at 5’10 and weighing in at around 130lbs he can still pack a wallop for his shorter stature at the age of 49. His standing on island relations is very open, he is one of the kinder leaders of the island and will happily put his opinion on the goings on.
Stand in Mayor for Bob Tower: Franklin Dee Papersvil:
Age: 55
Appearance: Grey haired and spry for his age Franklin looks like he could tangle with the best with them with ease, being muscle bound and always suited in the finest clothes he will not let anyone show him up
Due to the actual mayor being a way an elected stand-in takes his place, he is quiet and barely leaves his office due to the massive amounts of paper work that he has to do, his standing on island specifics is normally annoyance, he tends to focus more on the tower of bob.
Mayor of Lefrenen: The ex-champion of Bob Tower the mayor is called Mack Downs. He stands at 4'9" and has a light build. A maskless luchador, his outfit is bright and sparkley, his hair is platinum blonde and eyes are pure blue. A luchador and high-flying sensation that is not bitter about his defeat and loves life even to this day, for his old age of 58 he is still spry and powerful even giving the real champions a run for their money still.
Town(s)/Village(s)/City or Cities:
Bob Tower: The post town with a simple name, Bob Tower was founded by the Champion Bob. Whilst the name seems unimaginative, the people there are far from that. They Drink party and gamble their nights away, when they are not fighting off course. The central tower of this town is open to the public with only the top floor being closed off to everyone but the town's champion. The architecture of the buildings surrounding the tower is very western; their buildings are built to last and are as sturdy as the residents are. Even those who live at the base of the mountain by the small port have strong houses, though what they lack the flair they make up for that by housing some strong fighters. The homes more towards the tower have a prettier design and better colours and are built like small fortresses. The towns recent decline was caused one year ago by the new Champion taking office and then leaving within two weeks without passing on his title, causing a power vacuum that everyone is trying to fill but cannot without the belt to solidify their title. There is a self-proclaimed leader now but they have no sway with the champion council.
Grapplemat: Grapplemat is arguably the worst town, the homes are more like shacks, and the further away from the tower the homes are the more slum like the living conditions become. Commerce is rather poor in comparison to the other towns and because of all of this the rest of the island and visitors to the island all avoid visiting Grapplemat making trade outside even worse. The tower is almost closed off to everyone except for VIP visitors to the champion. Because of the tower being closed, the townspeople have no access to the bridge system and are effectively cut off from the rest of the island unless they brave going on foot to the other towns, or risking a boat around the rocky cliffs.
Headlock Heights: Headlock heights is the polar opposite from Bob Tower, for one, it is clean and orderly, 2 it has a mayor and 3 all fights must be performed in an official mayor approved arena, this both slows down the rate at which fights break out and keeping the towns. However this also slows down the rate at which people can change their social standing, this is the main factor that sets Headlock heights apart from all of the other towns. The architecture is well kept as all of the houses that surround the tower and even at the base od the mountain all look pristine and in a similar style, the only real difference is the increase of size and living space that the owners have, the higher up the mountain you live the better your living conditions. The tower is one split in to two sections, one which is the lower floors is all commercial, wrestling rings and shops fill this space all until the upper bridge above that is one giant pent house for the mayor. There is some commerce dotted around on the mountainside town, and in the port. However, it is not as wealthy or as high end as the shops in the tower, the only exception to this is the few shipyards that exist
Slam Town: Slam Town is the second most prosperous town on the island behind headlock heights, the town around the tower is colourful and full of sturdy housing and is bustling with activity on a daily basis. There is a fight at least once every half an hour in Slam Town, this is because of the massive activity, even tourists get involved with these fights, just wanting to see if they have what it takes to survive on Wrestlemania during their brief stay. The tower is open to the people and has residential accommodation right up to the last floor leaving the mayor only one room to call his or her home. The commerce is strong and the nightlife is fun, this is a prime example of what Wrestlemania is meant to be.
The rope town of Lefrenen: A rather new town this is a town without a champion, it was formed after many a ropewalker fell in the night of traveling the long rope bridge. After a while an inn was built and around that a small town to support it, after a few years a small town had erupted. This town is suspended high above the rocky shores and has a highflying people, these people are full of pride and tradition, and if their honour is besmirched then they will be your enemy for life. Everything here is precariously placed and seems just as deadly as the rest of the island, due to it’s bare minimum safety.
Island Plot Hooks:
Wrestlemania is an island for fighting, be it for competition or for life and death. Maybe a crew crosses the wrong man and gets a Lefrenen luchador hunting them down. Or maybe they try and instigate the missing champion of Bob tower.
Perhaps a spur of the moment competition offers a rare reward, a cursed or legendary weapon maybe a devil fruit. Maybe exploring the island to find the true meaning of wrestling the first forgotten temple to the art of grapple.
Island History:
The great history of Wrestlmania is held within the Supplexicon and it starts just over 700 years ago, a book bound in the leather masks of fallen luchadors. Within it is the story of the islands finding and the civilisations founding. A tale that starts with four men, the four champions of the towers. The men arrived on the island after a dispute; they were looking for a grand arena to settle their scores. After many an island they found Four Post Island, a land just as harsh and diverse as the men. There the four fought it out for days on end, eventually making a truce to meet there once a year until one of them ultimately came out on top.
Each year that they returned and with them more and more people came to watch, eventually these people didn’t want to leave, and in each of the four mountain corners they carved towers, they moulded the land to make this grand arena grander. Around these towers the four champions lived and around them their followers. Each year the champions fought and none of them lost nor gained any ground, they were all truly equal.
Between the meets for battle, the followers would venture onto the island to try and push forwards their settlements and each time they would fail due to the harsh wildlife that fought against them in a similar way to how the champions fought. These creatures had been witnessing these epic battles for years now and had adapted to fight in the same way, making them quite ferocious. This left many a ruin scattered throughout the land. One day the four champions who hated each other so much came together, not for a fight, but to decide what to do with their followers, because they had each amassed a towns worth of followers and every year more arrived wishing to test their skills.
On the islands 35th year of being settled it was officially made into a community, a nation. One governed by the 4 strongest in the land, the four who could prove themselves as worthy to lead their respective corners in their day to day life and to teach their own styles of wrestling, and together the 4 towns built the grand arena in the centre of the island.
The first of the champions to die was assassinated in his sleep by an outsider, due to the laws of the island he was allowed to become that towers champion, the champion of grapple mat. This did not last long however. Due to the companionship and rivalry between the champions they all sought their revenge and placed the title of champion upon a wrestler who deserved it. After this the champions began to change and alternate, they either retired through age or were beaten in honourable combat. This was and still is the tradition of succession, one that has stood the test of time and even survived through the blank century.
In the following years a new tradition was set up, its origins unknown. However, it has stood the test of time and is the most popular event on the island. “Wrestlmania Knockerfest” An event where everyone on the island can compete to win a prize for his or her respective tower homes. If an outsider wins they become king for a year. This has both lead to prosperous and bad times through this civilisations life, but it has stood strong and lasted through the tests of time, having both a council of champions and the occasional king.
Even recently after Wrestlemania Knockerfest the champion of bob had his title taken from him in a drunken but fair fight with an outsider who vanished days after, taking the belt with him. Whilst this is not unusual it did anger some. This has happened in the past but the champion will always return, be it of his or her own free will or not. Sometimes people will so disgruntled over it they will send assassins to go and claim the belt back themselves in “away matches.”
The Supplexicon is stored under the grand arena in the centre of the island, only the strongest can get to it and only the strongest can read it... maybe potentially learning secrets from the past no person should know.
