Name of Island: Kik-Kik Island
Society: The Kika
Size of Island: Roughly the size of Alabasta, if not slightly larger.
Location: Calm Belt
Log Pose Time:N/A
Climatic Type: Spring
Climate: Hot and Humid
Island Appearance:From afar, the island looks like any other spring, tropical island... but once you get close, you can truly take in the unique beauty of Kik-Kik island. A few trees stand taller than the rest, beautiful flowers hanging and growing from them in colors as vast as a rainbow's spread. Bugs all shapes, sizes, and colors soar through the air, busily working and making it appear like the very trees themselves are moving!
Key features visible from much of the island and the seas around it are the coral reefs that act as a natural barrier to Sea Kings as well as a way to ensure only seasoned sailors can land on the island. The second, quick to notice feature would certainly be the mountains toward the center of the island, one massive peak rising well into the sky. Despite the sheer height, however, trees can be seen dotting almost ever bit of it... so it should certainly make someone wonder if this island is even remotely inhospitable!
Flora and Fauna:FloraSoil-Top Trees: The most iconic tree of the island, the Soil-Tops of Kik-Kik are towering behemoths of trees. Standing stories tall, they're easily the tallest and widest to grow in the forests, their size due to a unique adaptation that has taken them many centuries to obtain. With powerful, scoop-like roots drawing in soil, the oddity of the Soil Tops is that they're always on top of stone, be it boulders or flat areas. The reason for this is that Soil-Top Trees have taken all the soil under and around them for roughly ten to fifteen feet and drawn it upward and under their bark. The bark of a Soil-Top, due to this strain, has grown soft and instead relies on moisture and the sheer length of time the dirt has been pressed against it to keep it upright, small stones reinforcing it even further in a tightly packed manner. The unique adaptation, however, isn't just for the benefit of the Soil-Top, but it also ensures other plants grow and die, enriching the soil with fertilizer and allowing symbiotic relationships with very... unique flowers.
Up-Root Flowers: The most iconic flowering plant of the island and the most well-known flower for supporting the Soil-Top Trees. In many extravagant colors and shapes, the only way to identify a plant as an Up-Root Flower is to... well, to look at it! All Up-Root Flowers grow upside down or hanging alongside Soil-Top Trees. Due to their height, they're able to receive plenty of sun, drawing in moisture and nutrients from previous trees and supplements brought by Kik Bugs. One product of this amazing flower's bountiful health and various colors, however, is a substance known as True Nectar. It's this nectar that causes the Kik Bugs and Kika to sustain them, full of nutrients valuable to anyone of poor health. While each color focuses on a different aspect, the true purpose of their coloring is to allow the Kika and Kik to identify the nectars they need to transform the Kik. No one is quite sure why the True Nectar has such a profound effect on the Kik, but they are the only creature to show profound transformations just from eating a handful of some of it.
FaunaExcerbugs: The only other species of bug on the island was introduced roughly at the time the nation lost most of its technology. A versatile bug, the Excerbugs have effectively been trying to take over territory from Kika and Kik Bugs alike. Unlike the natural Kik Bug, the Excerbug are hostile toward anyone save their own species. It's for this reason that the people of Kik-Kik Island will deploy their soldiers to hunt the bugs whenever a nest is found. The primary danger of the Excerbugs, however, is that they are capable of damaging and destroying the Soil-Top Trees. It's for this reason that the invasive species is a natural enemy to the Kik Bug, to the point that Kik Bugs will "go to war" and attempt to exterminate their enemies as coldly as a genocide whenever they come into contact. Key features of the Excerbugs, unlike the Kik Bugs, is that they appear far more like flying ants than beetles and that they're incapable of fast, controlled mutation and adaptation in the same way that a Kik Bug is, ultimately the only reason the species has been kept under control all this time.
Piks: A species of pigs that are both domesticated and wild on the island. These animals can grow as large as buffalo, often used to transport goods to and from locations on the island. On top of this, they're quite obviously used as a primary source of meat!
Tok-Tok Monkeys: Primates that dot the island's forest. Though they're an invasive species, they are far more tolerated than the Excerbugs due to their more peaceful nature. Though Kik Bugs do not hunt them, it's not uncommon for these monkeys and the Kik to come into contact. Though they're similar to most primates, the Tok-Tok Monkeys have a unique feature in the fact that they will beat and carve stone casings and wear them on the end of very powerful tails. The reason for this stone casing is viewed in the fact they will swing and use their tail like a hook both in combat and for navigating the large forests of Kik-Kik Island.
Rainbow Mok-Mok: A strange bird that's said to have come from an island that vanished into the Grand Line long ago. These birds are similar to the Toucan in shape, save for a peacock-like plumage that all of them have, sporting various colors of the rainbow. Their name, of course, comes from an uncanny ability to mock their owners or people that they see enough in the wild, often changing their body and head shape to more closely fit them!
Inhabitants:The Kika
The closest thing to native humans the island has. Their villages cover various sections of the island, but a large majority of them are based either around or in the canopies of the Soil-Top Trees. While they do have their own language, the majority of the Kika have learned to speak the "common" language of the sea through the sheer amount of explorers and Marine ships that have come to their shores to restock or carry out expeditions of the ancient ruins. Key features of the Kika, however, is darker skin and pale-colored hair, the latter of which is most prominent in the Royal Family as the men all have white hair. And though its more rare, the islanders grant "Life Tattoos" in two parts, often reflecting great accomplishment or a sense of respect from the entire island... to wear one is a sign of great pride! Due to their proximity to the Soil-Tops and Up-Root flowers, the Kika work hand-in-hand with the Kik Bug.
Kik Bugs
The true natives of the island, these beetle-like bugs are unlike the majority of creatures of the island, even considered inhabitants due to their various jobs in maintaining the island. The main reason for this is due to the sheer ability to train and communicate with a Kik Bug, often allowing them to become closer companions than most animals. The second reason, however, is due to the fact that Kik Bugs show great intelligence by burrowing or spewing hive-like structures in and along the Soil-Tops. To further push the difference, however, all one needs to do is state the genetic properties of the Kik Bug, using the nectar of the various kinds of Up-Root Flowers to fit whatever role on the island they may need, be it Soldiers to face the invading species or Tenders to ensure the survival of the many native plants. These little suckers sure are protective of their home, enough so that they can even locate the island after being taken out to sea, not unlike creatures such as the South Bird always facing south!
As stated earlier, the Kik Bugs have a unique adaptation feature that allows them to transform when they ingest True Nectar. As there are many colors in the world, there are just as many True Nectar variations that can modify the body structure and features of Kik Bugs. The most well-known of the transformations are, however, three forms. The Tender, which give the Kik the ability to spew sticky, nutrient rich adhesives to repair plants and bark on and around the Soil Top Tree. The Soldier, which transforms the Kik into a more bulky, stronger bug with plenty of adaptations for combat... such as horns or even clawed arms! The final of the three main adaptations, however, is the Royal. The Royal Kik, unlike other adaptations, is known by its color rather than the adaptations, turning a bright, vibrant blue. The reason they're known by their color rather than their adaptations at this stage is due to mixing the adaptations from various other "forms" into a combined stage. In short, you could even see combinations such as a Royal Soldier, combining multiple Soldier forms into a unified, stronger version! Similar to the effect of drugs on a human, not every Kik will have the same reaction from True Nectar... which means the Kika they partner with often have to experiment to find the best combinations!
Key features to note of the Kik Bug are its great adaptability and endurance to survive in any environment as long as they're properly cared for. On top of this, the bugs are easily larger than most human heads, latching onto their human partners to rest whenever they're not required to handle any tasks. Due to their long co-existence with humans, they've even been able to get human-length lifespans!
Prominent Organizations, Groups and Establishments:The Kikaka Guard
A group of elite warriors that have a history as one of the oldest founded organizations on Kik-Kik, even predating the Kika-Kika Royal Family. The original role of these warriors was to ensure the safety of the island, but has since evolved into protecting the Soil-Top Trees from foreign invaders. Due to the increasing danger of invasive species and unwarranted expeditions, the guard has proficient ability in dispatching anyone who dares to present a threat to the island and its two main inhabitants. Due to the culture of Kik-Kik, the Kikaka Guard is comprised of Kika warriors and some of the most well-trained and adapted Kik Bugs partners!
The Kika-Kika Royal Family
The rulers of the various villages and groups of Kik-Kik Island. Put into place centuries ago, it was only with the loss of technology on the island and the moment the World Government no longer cared about its status that the Kika-Kika came into the spotlight as a ruling power. Though during their days with the World Government had made them serve as ambassadors, they've greatly expanded to actually serving as teachers and leaders in a same goal. As such, the Kika-Kika are some of the few natives to learn to speak both languages and read the most basic kind. Some might think this as a great divide, but the rule kept in place as long as the family has stood is simple: They serve in their youth, only to raise the next generation as teachers in their elder years. When the members transition is ultimately up to them, but it's never been heard of for someone to spend most of their life doing one or the other, rather that they make an almost even split between leading and teaching.
Trends:Fashion
The common fashion of the Kika consists of pants for men, while women often wear tight wraps and skirts. Shirts are almost unknown, due to the use of lifestyle tattoos that are maintained along a Kika's life. To tell apart class, however, the Kika use colored feathers. Red indicates those of the normal civilian class, green for the tenders, black for soldiers, and blue for those of the Kik Royal Family. While these feathers are traditionally stuck in one's hair or behind their ear, it's not uncommon for more active members to sport feathers on necklaces or armbands. Currently, the amount of feathers a person has indicates the order of which they were born, such as having one feather means you were an only child or born first of your siblings.
Politics
Despite the fact that the Kika have their origins in the World Government, the loss of technology two centuries ago has utterly isolated them from the world. As such, the island has been abandoned due to the sheer harsh nature of the invasive species making it difficult for any colonization to be performed and its location within the Calm Belt. With the lack of Marine and World Government interest, Kik-Kik has instead opted to enforce loose monarchy in a similar style to nations such as Alabasta and Dressrosa before the time of Doflamingo. As such, the people of the island are content to cheer and worship the Royal Family like a treasure, ultimately resulting in a majority of them being kind and easy-going.
Industry
Due to their nutrition-rich contents, True Nectar is the main export from Kik-Kik island, the second being Kik-Uppers. However, a crucial note is that the island only maintains two vessels, both of which are powered by Sea Kik. These massive Sea Kings are a special line that were captured and bred, bearing a striking resemblance to the bugs of the island rather than their Sea King brethren. The presence of these Sea Kings ensures the ships are rarely threatened, allowing the Kika to trade with various islands within the Grand Line and any traders they might have in their ports. Though these Sea Kings are naturally dangerous, they're kept tame by using various amounts of True Nectar to appease them, meaning that their industry is practically self-powered!
Cuisine
A majority of the dishes that Kik-Kik is famous for are True-Nectar enriched meals. The reason for this isn't so much the taste of the meats or vegetables available to the islanders, but to the fact they've learned to compliment meals that keep people nice and healthy for most of their life when eaten on a monthly basis. Otherwise known as Kik-Uppers, these meals are famously used to nurse the weak and the old back into good health. If you can make them taste good, well... it only further accents the value of this priceless, nutritious and life-reinforcing meal!
NPCs: The Kika-Kika Royal Family and Kikaka Guard
Town(s)/Village(s)/City or Cities
Ruin Mountain
Though it is no longer populated, Ruin Mountain is the name of the ancient city within the center of the island's tallest mountain. No one knows why it was abandoned, only that it was the capital before the loss of the island's technology. What lies inside, no one can be sure... getting there through the Chev-Chev Mountains is already challenging enough.
Kiku City
The only true "city" on the entire island and the current capital of the Kika culture. Built around the only instance of ten Soil-Tops being nearby, the sheer size of these Soil-Tops has resulted in a city with roughly twenty-thousand people. The beauty of the city is almost unmatched, the massive Soil-Tops the city is built near, along, and up covered in an almost uncountable amount of Up-Root Flowers. Due to the sheer amount of Up-Root Flowers in this location, the Kik Bugs are naturally drawn to Kiku City no matter how far away they are, effectively allowing anyone with a Kik Bug to find their way back to Kiku City.
Kik-Kik Palace
The largest Soil-Top in Kiku City has a very unique feature... a palace built around it! The largest building in the entire kingdom, it easily matches the ruins of Ruin Mountain in scale. Some halls of it are abandoned or given to Kik Bugs, but for the most part the massive structure is used as a school, garrison, and a living quarters for the Kika-Kika Royal Family.
Soil-Top Villages
Though there aren't any that stand out in identity, there are roughly as many small villages dotting the island as there are Soil-Tops. Each of these is, without any room for error, at least within a minute's walk from a Soil-Top. The reason for this massive spread of the nation's people isn't just to ensure they spot invaders, but to protect the Soil-Tops from various creatures that have come to Kik-Kik Island. As expected, if a Soil-Top is destroyed... well, generally the city is abandoned to the elements.
Dripik Dock
Named after a historical figure in the nation's past, Dripik Dock is the second largest settlement on the island. Two large Soil-Top Trees are evenly spaced in the dock to ensure that the small bay it's built around is properly supplied with True Nectar. Within this bay, of course, are the Sea Kik, the rare breed of Sea Kings captured and fed to ensure safe travel to and from Kik-Kik Island. On top of this, two warships made to imitate Kik Bugs are properly maintained and kept at the ready for any threat that might present itself to the island. Though they're only two, the city's shoreline is dotted with modern guns brought from trading with the World Government and various Marines and pirates.

Island History:Due to the location of Kik-Kik Island, the history of the island is as unique as the creatures and wildlife found on it. Initially, the island is suggested to have been found in its state roughly 2,000 years ago, during the formation of many civilizations throughout the Grand Line. Due to its place almost perfectly between the Grand Line and the safer Blues, it had been deemed a half-way point to any who were able to somehow escape the Sea Kings nesting within the Calm Belt.
As it was originally found, the island's famous wildlife had only just begun to truly blossom. The first of the Soil-Top Trees had begun to reach their full size, the explorer's coming face-to-face with a native species, a prior evolution of the Kik Bugs. At the moment of contact, the Kik Bugs were only capable of adapting into tenders, a peaceful bug race trying to sustain their home's natural ecosystem. The initial action had been to attack the Kik Bugs, but after only a year, the human invaders were met with a very fierce variant, the first of the Soldier adaptations. Rather than continue fighting the native species, as the island was originally just a halfway point, the humans began trying to find ways to establish partnership with the bugs and to erase the past aggression. The result was bringing in beautiful, nectar-rich flowers! The Kik Bugs loved the nectar, as it reminded them of the flowers growing atop the young Soil-Top Trees... so they began to cross-pollinate!
Within one-hundred years, roughly 1,920 years ago, the result was the first of the modern Up-Root Flowers being born. These beautiful, new flowers and the now docile Kik Bugs would inspire a new idea... a society with the Kik Bugs helping humans. Initially, the idea was hard-pressed, the little bugs simply not able to understand humans... but this would change at a very crucial point. To be exact, it changed 1,850 years ago... the day a man named Dripik came to the island. A rather interesting fellow, Dripik came from a small town in the South Blue and had raised animals most of his life... an early attempt to cross into the Grand Line through the Calm Belt had brought Dripik face-to-face with a new culture.
The man witnessed the sight of humans trying to convince bugs how to help with menial tasks as well as locating which trees were safe to cut... the bugs, however, weren't listening or didn't have the proper interest. As a result, Dripik focused his training aspects on trying to teach the little bugs how to understand basic orders. After trying every method he'd learned over the years, however, nothing seemed to work. Encouraging, physical encouragement, and training seemed to have no effect on the cooperation of the native species... until the man witnessed the bugs tending to the many plants. It was then that an idea came to him: to bathe himself in the nectar! It was crazy, practically laughable... but the small settlement were in awe the moment the man emerged. As strange as he smelled, the man began attempting to train the bugs once more... and this time they actually listened! Everyone was in awe as the man finally gained enough interest, the bugs perhaps influenced by the nectar to the point they were paying the proper attention!
Within a year, the settlers had settled in for the most part, each of them having to bathe in nectar once a month to ensure their bugs listened while undergoing training. Dripik was hailed a hero, the man's work giving them a way to train and even select bugs as someone would a personal pet! The early success of this acted as an incentive to anyone lucky enough to reach the island's shores to stay... and eventually the small settlement became a town... and then a dockyard. Years went by, the people bathing in the nectar in greater amounts. In time, people set off to find new Kik groups... and when they did, they were surprised to see the same trees being used each time. When everyone came to question Dripik on this, the man thought of a logical reason: These trees were sacred to the little bugs... and as such, they had to be protected! Giving out orders to many of the settlers, Dripik ensured that any tree found was at least safeguarded and tended to by a family at the least. The growth of the dock slowed, but the island began to be spread with people... and then it happened.
Dripik, now roughly 1,800 years ago, had grown old... and strangely, he and many of the settlers had began to darken. Some thought it was the amount of sun made available to them all due to working outside so much... but one of the physicians to drop by the island mentioned that it was the nectar. It promoted faster growth in human genetics, allowing the settlers to adapt to the perfect skin color all within a single lifespan. The man even mentioned that the nectar was likely to promote unique hair colors... but that'll come later. For now, this meant that Dripik and the early settlers of Kik-Kik had become dark skinned in only half a century... but it meant they'd be able to walk around outdoors all day in the sun and be rather fine. As a result, activity through the week jumped considerably... and the fishing brought a massive Sea King out of the shallows, finally investigating the constant activity.
The dock was besieged as the raging Sea King crashed into the ships and dock, people screaming and fleeing as the bug-like behemoth set to destroying everything they worked on... and only one man refused to turn away. With everyone praying him to turn away, Dripik chose instead to face the Sea King. A species of creature thought of as a God in some cultures, the Sea King turned and clicked a challenge at the lone man and his Kik Bug... and in a blink, it lunged to finish the man off in the shallows. Dripik gave his Kik Bug a nectar that no one had seen... a nectar that he'd worked on through trial and error... and the people were shocked when the Kik Bug grew to the size of a house and a massive, spiked horn erupted from its forehead. The Sea King crashed face-first into the horn, roaring and recoiling in pain as the large, bulky Kik Bug floated upward to face it. Rather than fight, however, Dripik leaped and rode the bug to see eye-to-eye with the pained Sea King... and with a single toss of a vial, bestowed the creature with the nectar. At first, everyone was confused as to what had happened... neither party was moving! But at last, the Sea King let out a bellowing screech and lowered to the shallows... it had calmed and didn't seem to mind the presence of the humans. Scientists say this myth holds no truth, but it's suspect this was the first Sea Kik, a Sea King only found in the shallows surrounding the island.
The island wasn't bothered anymore, Dripik's success ultimately sealing the fate of the island to boom and grow... and it did just that. Dripik passed away, founding a group that would later become the Kikaka Guard... and in his passing, the settlers worked to live up to his name. The dock would become Dripik Dock, a beacon to any settlers hoping to find refuge in a quiet island outside of reach from anyone sailing the Blue Seas or the Grand Line. It grew and diminished as any settlement would through history... it even survived the chaotic and censored Void Century. But, time went on... and as the nation came out of the Void Century roughly 800 years ago, the group Dripik founded recognized itself as the Kikaka Guard. Not only that, but the Island was officially named... you guessed it! Kik-Kik Island!
The World Government was in its youth, and as such... well, they needed valuable islands to use as hop-along points through the calm-belt. The entire natural population of Kik-Kik had gained dark skin by now, coming out of the Void Century with bright colored hairs. No one is able to find out due to the censorship on what happened, and as such the island chooses to experiment to get normal hair colors once more. In an attempt to keep it a secret, a group of scientists head into the mountains, building a complex in the valley resting atop the tallest of them. This complex investigated the change in hair color over the last century, despite their restrictions... and while they gained knowledge, none of it ever left the mountain. People sought it out and so they went there, the secrets staying... until a ship arrived roughly 500 years ago.
It had been a regular day for the most part, but the arrival of a World Government vessel inspired considerable confusion. The island wasn't unaware of technology, most of their technology up to date... but as the days went by... people found tools and machines missing. Blueprints to replace them, schematics for machines... it didn't matter what. If it was advanced or modern, it was taken... and the people wanted answers and sought out the researchers atop the mountain. When they arrived, however, there was no sign of life. The Soil-Top Trees grown there were dead, there were no Kik Bugs... and the researchers and any work they had uncovered was gone. In the course of only a week, Kik-Kik suddenly found itself without many of the inventions they had used... and the World Government ship had vanished.
In a panic, the Kikaka Guard sought out a long-though extinct family line... the descendants of Dripik himself. The telling signs of Dripik's line were the features that matched him the most... and only one man's family on the entire island had the traits. White hair, brilliant like snow from the North Blue, marked the family's males. Initially, everyone doubted the legitimacy of the family's claims... until the man's daughter had the very same red dot birthmark on the center of her forehead, just as Dripik's daughter was thought to have. The family had initially been nothing more than a dream, but the Kikaka Guard established them as the true lineage of Kik-Kik... the Kika-Kika Royal Family. Using this established royalty, the Kika-Kika served as ambassadors using what little information had somehow been overlooked. It wasn't much, but the nation continued trading over the years. As they time went on, however, their large dock crumbled and their fleet fell... and at last, the once bustling checkpoint was nothing more than an island, lost in the Calm Belt.
As the royal family continued investing time in foreign endeavors, they would return to find their people forgetting the most basic of knowledge. There was no large influx of immigrants anymore... there was no bustling research station... there was only a basic life on the island. The more the family served the Island's needs, the more the kings and queens saw a crumbling society... and it resulted in them returning and speaking on various aspect of culture. It didn't do much to slow the halt... but it was enough. A few more centuries went by, the noble family slowly abandoning their efforts to regain proper recognition from the World Government and instead focusing on properly tending to the nation. And it was only 200 years ago that the family made a dedication to serve their people... by building a palace around the largest Soil-Tops the island had. In a bold move, they urged the people to finally begin to group and protect the island's treasures... and obviously, some people weren't happy about this.
150 years ago, the Palace had been erected and much of the modern buildings and practices had fully been abandoned... but this would also mark an event known as "The Catalyst". A group of powerful merchants, planning to exact revenge on Kik-Kik for no longer trading with them, sailed with the intent of conquering the island. At first, they found success attacking the only port town of the island... but the people of Dripik Dock fought back. Using the few Sea Kiks that had been assembled, they urged the beast to attack the traders' war fleet, the beasts annihilating them in a matter of moments. Though the beasts had ended the threat, the cause for the fight made it clear that trade was necessary... but that wasn't remotely as dangerous as what came after the destruction of the fleet, in the form of two invasive creatures. A group of war-like bugs, the Excerbugs, were the first of deadly invaders. They took to the shores and began to circle the island. Assumed to be Kik Bugs, they initially inspired fear in the populace as the Kik Bugs attacked the invaders. While it was assumed they were entirely wiped out, after a rather sloppy investigation following the Kik-on-Kik violence reports.... but this proved to be wrong. Burrowing into the ground, a large number of the Excerbugs would go dormant and start waiting, allowing them to build up their numbers and then swarm in great force.
If this wasn't bad enough, the Tok-Tok Monkeys came next. While not aggressive, these monkeys brought a strange new dynamic to the island... specifically one that prompted every Kika to keep their Kik Bug close when venturing outside. Devious primates with stone-encased tails were dangerous... too dangerous for mere caution to combat. As a result, the Kikaka Guard were instructed by the Royal Family to train an army. Though it wasn't any bit as dangerous as a modern army, this would eventually lead to a large shift toward a militaristic class to accent the standard "classes" of society. People who had long used Tender Kik Bugs wanted to be accounted for, which prompted another... and then at last, the civilians announced that the Royal Family should mark its members in a proper way... and one of the two final species to survive the trade fleet would fill that role perfectly.
However, of these two "monster" creatures, there were two that ended up being far from destructive. The Pik was a blessing for the island and its lack of "beasts of burden", but the Rainbow Mok-Mok gave an interesting and natural way to identify members of the various classes in Kik-Kik. Plucking their beautiful feathers every molting season allowed them to easily outfit the entire nation in a matter of years... and the result was an uncanny society based around vibrant colors booming into the foreground. The beauty of the island at last was more than just natural... the people had bright hair, tan and dark skins, and now they had vibrant feathers to mark them! As a result, the last 140 years have led to a boom in the society's culture. They weren't some basic trade group anymore... but a nation that supported itself on happiness and heritage. Tattoos, feathers, clothes... they all could be colored!
Safe to say, the most recent events of note was the birth of the newest of the Royal Family, starting thirty years ago with Prince Kik IV... the beginning of a glorious new generation of prosperity. With the coming of new children, however, and the last two years inspiring piracy once more, the island has got more than a fair share of fleeing pirates. The army has grown strong beating some of them and the knowledge of the island has blossomed from their books and the few peaceful ones to pass through the Calm Belt... and Kik-Kik Island is once more becoming a jewel of the Calm Belt, aspiring to once more show the world that they might be in a horrible location... but sometimes, the best strive in the worst conditions!
