Name of Island: The Holy Remunun Empire
Size of Island: Large, spanning five islands of varying sizes.
Location: Southern North Blue, close to the Calm Belt
Flora and Fauna: The climate of the Remunun Empire is rather varied given its size. Some parts are warm for the usual cold islands of North Blue, as it sits close to the Red Line/Grand Line Border to West and South Blue. Consequently, it has a semi-tropical variety of exotic plant life of extravagant colours that mostly favour red shades. More north, the plants are more typical to the area, being
Gryphon Vulture- An interesting type of large bird that has the legs of a large cat in place of its own. They are trained by the Remunun Army to swoop down on enemies and slash at them with the claws of their powerful legs. It is the ‘mascot’ of the empire, with it being featured frequently on Remunun motifs. Originally native only to the north of the empire, humans have brought them all around it giving them a status as the few animals found on all the islands of the Remunun Empire.
Flying Marmot- Indegenous to the northern islands of Remunus, the Flying Marmot cousin to the Marmot family, that like the flying squirrel has the ability to glide through the air via a skin-like membrane connecting their limbs.
Hibex- A kind of goat with tall curled horns, the horns are very strong and light, and often longer than the animal that bore them. Like the Flying Marmot, hese animals are found in the northern area of Remunum.
March Harrier- A small bird of prey that excels in pack hunting, they individually look quite normal but in a group are much more unusual as they move in a long, three wide flock like marching soldiers. Used as messenger birds by the Remunun Army, March Harriers are originally native to Southern parts of the empire, but have been introduced to many islands of the north too.
Padded Salamander- A strange creature that lives in fresh water on the southernmost islands of Remunum, despite being a salamander it looks a lot more like a frog. Puffy and round, these creatures have stubby salamander legs and a thick tail, but otherwise have features very similar to frogs and toads.
Inhabitants: This island chain is inhabited by the citizens of the Remunun Empire, a powerful nation with a strong army and ally, but not member, of the World Government.
Arts and entertainment seem to take precedent amongst it’s peoples, there are great sculptors here, perhaps some of the best stoneworkers in the world. The entertainment is often in plays and the capital holds a huge coliseum where warriors and slaves compete as arena gladiators.
Gradually since it’s victory over the Kingdom of Adler, steam technology has been being installed, with mixed results.
NPCS: Emperor Romano Naso- The Emperor of the land, who seeks peace and prosperity for his land, but is old and losing support to his son.
Prince Captinus Naso- The Wicked Son of the Emperor, who plots his land’s expansion through force and deception, waiting for his father to die so he may become Emperor.
General Minimus Imperus Nadirus- A powerful General both in command and combat, he is fiercely loyal to his empire and will fight his damnedest to protect it as well as carry out the orders given.
Nearius- The director of the capital’s coliseum, a one-time slave who was unbeaten in combat, the Emperor granted his freedom as a reward for his prowess.
Colonel Trajan- Head of the Remunun Army Training Barracks, he drills their recruits through military skills and produces a polished bunch of soldiers in two months.
Town(s)/Village(s)/City or Cities: Romano City- The capital of the whole of the Holy Remunun Empire, situated on the largest and southernmost island, which is called Rem. This large city is filled with all sorts of white buildings and every kind of merchant you can think of. It also has a great theatre to perform plays in, and most prominent is it’s huge arena, the coliseum. Various sporting events are held here, such as chariot racing and athletics, but every quarter there is a tournament held between travelling warriors and slaves, for renown and freedom. Interestingly, the capital changes name with every new emperor, reflecting the name of the nation’s leader.
Naso- This is a town founded by the family of the current emperor, famous for its pottery and stonework. All of the locals have prominent and strange shaped noses. It lies on the south western island of Baetica.
Caeserio- This town, on the northernmost island of Noricum, is home to a Marine Base, built in appreciation by both parties for Remunun’s continued status as a World Government Nation. Much more barren and cold than the rest of the Remunun Empire, as ide from the town the island is used for manoeuvres and war-games between the Marines and the Remunun Island.
Marius- The Eastermost island of Thrace holds the town of Marius, and it’s barracks. All army recruits are brought here for two months of training in combat and discipline, and the steady thoroughfare of people has given the town a kind of holiday feel.
August- The north western town of the Remunun Empire that is located on the island of Aquitania, it is the trade centre of the Empire, being the island closest to neighbouring lands, and holds a large garrison of troops to stave off invasion. Despite being names for what many consider a summer month, it’s actually a rather cool island.
Missions: Can you feel the power, of the GLADIATORS?
Take part in an eight man (four character, four NPC) tournament held in Romano and win 5,000 Beri just for competing, and more for winning! The competition is fierce, slaves enter this with the hopes of winning and being set free, so any participants must be prepared to risk their lives for the prize.
Island History: Originally, the four islands of the Remenus Empire (Minus the barren land of Noricum) were inhabited by nomads, who would cycle around them in a clockwise fashion in five year periods. For some reason, these peoples didn’t like to stay in the same place for too long, as they seemed to constantly be striving for new horizons. However, gradually there would be groups of families who didn’t have the taste for the movement, and small communities started to crop up on the four islands roughly a thousand hundred years ago. As these villages started to grow, the visiting nomads and immigrants from other islands in North Blue would go on to bolster their numbers and seven hundred years ago, the four islands united into an alliance, their differing amenities and resources making an effective team.
Soon after the union, it was decided that a central council would decide policy for the four islands, and the Republic of Rem was born, named for the island in which the council would be housed. Representatives from each of the four lands were selected by their respective nobles and soon a senate provided fair and peaceful treatment for all.
However, war and peace is an eternal struggle, and as soon as one is achieved the other will inevitably follow. After two hundred years of Senate Control, a power hungry native of Rem called Remunus desired to become to one ruler of the whole republic. He was the child of the families that represented both Rem island and Augustus, so he had decided that of all the people of the republic he was the most destined to control.
A charismatic individual, Remunus would sway the hearts of many people of the republic, even gaining the support and backing of its church, calling it a holy campaign. After a long and bloody battle, Remunus succeeded in overthrowing the Republic and installed himself as the new emperor of the Holy Remunum Empire. One of the first actions of Remunus was to form an allegiance with the World Government, not out of need for its protection but more to protect his country from their formidable forces. Upon his death, the Emperor’s title was passed on to his descendants, and up until two hundred years ago, the family of Remunus held control of their holy empire.
During the time of the Remunus family, the prosperous republic that once was had given way to a more hedonistic and deteriorating lifestyle, and one family in particular stood up to prevent the Empire from falling into complete oblivion; The Naso’s. This family of nobles, held in high regard by the people himself were popular with houses of power in the Remunun Empire, and the emperor Rhaetia Remunus feared them taking control. Capturing most of the family, only it’s youngest son, Julius Naso escaped execution for treason and united the land against its tyranny. Casting out Rhaetia, Julius was now installed as the new Emperor, hoping to regain the prosperity that the land once held.
Cassius and his descendants were successful; they rebuilt the ravaged economy and world standing of the Remunun Empire and expanded it to include the fifth island of their chain, Noricum. Almost two hundred years of peace was enjoyed, until once again the ugliness of war raised a dark shadow.
Close to the Remunun empire was a small kingdom by the name of Adler, it had usually been left to its own devices but ten years previously, the prince of the Empire, Captainus, gained a strong interest in it. Being quite technologically minded peoples, the Adlerians possessed a more advanced society than Remunun, despite their massively dwarfed size. Wanting to make a name for himself amongst his people, to prove himself, the rash and cunning Captainus brewed a plot to implicate the Alderians in an assassination of the current Emperor, Romano Naso.
Romano was peace minded, reluctant to go to war with another nation but in the circumstance the deception forced him to. The Holy Remunun Empire led by Prince Captainus and General Minimus quickly seized the island and its inhabitants fled. Chainging the name of the captured Adler Kindom to Nuovo Romano, it has been annexed into becoming the sixth island of the Holy Remunun Empire.
