“Indeed that is very well said. As a team, the most important thing here is survival. If we don’t survive, this mission will be a failure for we must be able to report back what we find here. I’ll explain more once we reach land. I must however admit that I am very impressed with this piece of homework you have done. Otherwise, our fates could have been decided by simple ignorance of such a matter.”
The smile on her face was hard to hide. She had actually done something good and not something that was going to bite them in the rear end later on. She held Andro, once he had hopped away from Ayumi, close against her chest as she put her face in his fur. Slowly but surely, she was showing that she was more than capable of being more than a street fighting brat.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rae managed to get out of the boat without falling into the water, a first sign that things were going smoothly now. She looked around, the night air evident on her lips. Running a hand through her hair, she realized with disdain that some of her hair had frost in it. She ruffled her hair a bit, getting some of the frost out. Last thing she needed was to get sick.
Her eyes looked around, seeing that the entire group was freezing. Rae looked at herself, almost glad she had grown up on Ice Nine. The cold had never affected Rae, she had always seen visitors bundle on piles of fur and layers of wool clothing, but Rae had always been fine running around in a sweater and jeans. However, she wondered if anyone was from the North Blue. She glanced over to Ayumi, seeing she was jogging in place, before meekly looking at her, "Sorry Ayumi, if I had a jacket, I'd give it too you." She said as Dante was expressing his gratitude to the old man for the ride.
Dante seemed to walk away, and Rae followed closely. She was glad that he was taking her on this little quest, and she needed to know what plan they were going to go with... although to be honest, Rae didn't even had a plan. Her type of plan was to go in, defeat the head bandit and then hopefully it should work from there. However, Dante seemed to be a man that never did anything without an extravagant, fully planned plan. Not how Rae worked, but hey, to each their own.
He held his hand out to her, making Rae stop and look at him. She was about to retort with a smart aleck response, but she realized that he was going to explain things, so she decided that he wanted the map. She pulled her bag off, digging into it, before handing him the map.“Alright guys, things get serious now. With Rae on our side, that makes five us. Six if you count Andro…” Dante added. Rae looked at him, before she grinned, patting the small fox as he sat besides his owner, giving a small coo at Dante's addition of him.
"Now the aim is to locate the main bandit base. They will plenty of hide-outs as we are already aware about and they know the mountain pretty well so in comparison to them, we are blind apart from these traps Rae has outlined for us. From the two types of traps Rae mentioned, it is clear they are looking to capture rather than kill. If anyone out of us is captured, we cannot mention what we know. Not about what we have planned or the numbers arriving. The whole point is that we take them out using the element of surprise.”
Rae blinked. Numbers? What was this guy talking about? It's not like this is some undercover operation. It wasn't like they were spies or anything. They were just a rag team of marines that wanted to get these bandits what they were asking for... right? She looked up at Dante, seeing he was staring at her. She wanted to retort, but she saw his look. He was hesitating, wondering what he should say next. It almost made her uncomfortable.
“So Rae, I bet you want to know what’s going on. Basically, you are now part of an underground, top-secret operation which will involve eradicating the bandits that plague this island. Do you understand what I am saying? Even after this is done, it cannot be mentioned to anybody. Not about who we are and what we did. Captain Haunter is in charge and our efforts will be rewarded but who took part in this mission and what we did must remain a secret.”
Wait. what?! Her mouth opened slightly, but no words came out. Underground top secret operation?! What had she gotten herself into this time? usually she had gotten into fights from this kind of things, mixed in the wrong group of people, but this... How had she managed this?! No wonder he wanted to shoot her on the spot when he saw her, he didn't want them being found out! Raevaugnh Gilberttson what have you gotten yourself into this time?! She mentally scolded herself as she panicked on the inside.
“Currently there are three units taking part in this operation. We are the first of the three, the infiltration unit… Our job is to get behind enemy lines and plant these.”
Almost a high, barely audible squeak passed her lips. He was carrying bombs too?! Oh god, if they had fought and she hit those... they all would have gone up in flames! what crazy mad man carried explosives on him like it was a run of a mill?! She was tense now, her hand on Andro's back was slowly but surely grasping the poor little fox tighter and tighter, making the fox coo a bit.
“These will cause disruption and chaos amongst the bandits as their bases and soldiers will be dealt a huge blow. A second group known as the Intelligence Unit will follow us up. They will be marking out danger areas, observing enemy positions and numbers and will guide us in our mission. Some of them have already found locations into the tunnels that lead into the mountain itself. We will be taking a route that is less often travelled, it will be dangerous but it is a risk we will have to take. A third unit will be dispatched in the morning and they will bring on a full attack against the island bandits.”
She was barely listening to him, looking at the map. This was serious. Rae had really gotten into something over her head. For the second time in her life, she was starting to believe that she had screwed up big time. She had gotten herself into something she should have never known about, should be in. Yet, her idioticness and stubbornness had led her here. She took a small gulp, looking at the map as if she was really listening, paying attention to the other units that were suppose to come after them, before slowly, she looked up at Dante.
After this was all said and done, what was going to happen to her then? Dante, Yuri, Higure and Ayumi looked like they had more than enough fighting experience on their hands. The only fighting experience Rae had were the countless of street fights she had gotten into growing up, but these guys... she was nothing but a brat to them. Yet... She saw Dante's face twist in slight horror on the future plan.
“It’s going to be a full-scale war between ourselves and the Rock Dragon Bandits. This is it Rae. We might die trying but we are going to get rid of the bastards if it’s the last thing we do and you are going to be a part of it. Now let’s go find that entrance into the mountain and cause some chaos.”
She blinked at him a bit taken back. She was part of this. He had said that, almost like he was counting on her to do her own part. She looked around the group. Even though she barely knew these people, she still felt like she couldn't just let them go out on their own. She couldn't just abandon them, she had to see this through with them. She looked at Andro, patting his head, before to Dante. It was almost like he was counting on her the same way her brother had counted on her with not to screw up.
A small frown plastered on her lips, no way would she screw up here and die. She had too much to do before that happened, and she wasn't going to let them die. "I have no plans on dying before I find someone. And I'm not going to let you guys die either." She spoke, before she picked up Andro, standing up. A childish grin became plastered on her face, "Besides, causing chaos is like second nature to me! Those idiotic bandits won't know what hit them, and when they do, it'll be too late for them to do anything." She looked at the group, before looking back, pointing behind her to a lone path "I know we're taking the less traveled route, but, there's really only one way up to the village itself.. Unless you have another path in mind." She said, looking to Dante.
She looked down to Andro, holding the small fox close to her, before to the group. Now was the time for her to prove to herself and to the others. She would be able to help them out. She wasn't some street brat that was only good for street fights, she was going to be a marine that could do something. Even if she couldn't tell anyone what was going to happen this night, she would at least prove to herself that she could do this. It was now or never. despite her heart pounding and her nerves going out of whack, she was going to go through with this. The civilians of this town needed to be rid of these bandits once and for all.
The smile on her face was hard to hide. She had actually done something good and not something that was going to bite them in the rear end later on. She held Andro, once he had hopped away from Ayumi, close against her chest as she put her face in his fur.
