It was the beginning of the night before. The sun had just fallen and Haunter was in his office, staring through the high window upon the marine tower below him. One of the three sections that made up this island. The tower was huge and the view from up here was amazing. Being above so many other people gave Haunter a boost. The tower wasn’t based upon power where the higher up your office was the higher your position was. No, it was merely co-incidental Haunter’s office was situated at the top. It also gave him the opportunity to climb the 100 floors to the summit every day; kept him fit and strong. Considering the amount of work he had to get through in a day and his aging body, the exercise was very much needed and appreciated.
Haunter looked down the side of the tower, watching as the lights were shutting off one by one. The building had a strict law of lights out so the recruits could get plenty of rest. Only the higher ranked marines were given permission to stay up during the night to carry out their paper-work and preparations for the following day, or those that were taking part in the night’s watch. Those that gave up their nights to stand and protect the city were highly respected by Haunter; true warriors of Jreum Island. However, tonight another group of warriors would be sacrificing their sleep for a very important mission; Operation Shivre Mountain.
Dante was the first to walk in, followed by his joyful cousin Ayumi, the every gloomy Yuri and last entered Higure, as confident as ever. Haunter didn’t turn for a while, allowing the four to remain standing in his office for a moment. He had given instruction to Harvey to tell them to come to his office without being discovered by anybody else. They were not to have made a noise. It seemed they had managed to do so or else being caught out of their rooms out of hours would have led to a disciplinary. If they had gotten caught, it would have been quite clear to Haunter that they weren’t capable of taking part in the mission at hand for the purpose Haunter had intended. Making it to his office meant they had passed the final test. He smiled momentarily before supressing it upon turning to face the Infiltration Unit of the Ghost Division.
“I see you made it up here without any problems. I congratulate you on passing your final test. As you are aware, you will be the first to enter Jreum as part of the operation. You will not be given any marine privileges. That means you dress as normal, undercover; no uniforms. You can keep your weapons and fill your arsenal with sea-stone cuffs and smoke-bombs should you need to make an arrest or need means to escape but that is all you will be getting. A minimal amount of Beri will be provided should you need to hire a room and for eating purposes. You will have to hitch a ride with the final fisherman who leaves Jreum Island for Shivre Mountain at the last hour of the day… which means you have 30 minutes to find him and get to the island.”
He paused a moment before reaching into his pocket and revealing 4 pairs of baby den-den mushi’s. He threw them in the direction of each of the marines.
“Take these, you can keep in contact with one another during the mission should you get separated. A gift from me to provide you with that little bit of help should you need it. Dante has the mission briefing. You can discuss the rest of the plan with him once you are free of any eyes and ears. Now as silently as you came, make your way out of here. All the best agents… Remember you are ‘The Ghosts’ in Ghost Division. Go and do your team proud.”
Dante smirked upon hearing his name. He knew Haunter still disapproved of him following his disrespectful action in the morning meeting but they both knew he was very capable or else Haunter would have never allowed him to lead. Dante had opted for a casual purple and white jacket with a matching cap over a pair of denim jeans and tight-black t-shirt. It was a good look for him and totally dissociated from association with marines. Apart from the fact he wore a cap.
Taking his finger to his lips, Dante indicated to his fellow recruits to keep it quiet. No-one was to utter a single word. Dante led the way. He was cautious and had a good eye and he was fast on his feet as was Ayumi. He wasn’t too sure about the other two which is why he rather have them take the back. It was going to be tough getting to bottom from here but even if they did get caught, they were no longer classed as marines from this point on. They had to make it out of here by any means possible whilst staying under cover. Yuri and Ayumi had also donned disguises, changing their appearance through hair dyes and hair style and make-up. It was easier as a girl with the accessories they possessed in that sense. For himself and Higure, it was much harder. Dante hoped the cap would work. The whole disguise thing was necessary. Nobody in the Jreum department, apart from the Ghost Division, knew about this operation. If word got out, it was possible the Rock Dragon Bandits may receive a tip-off allowing them to escape or plan a counter attack. Either one would ruin the plan.
Dante pointed toward the emergency exit sign that lead to the secondary stair-well. From what Dante had deduced, it was only used occasionally and if things go according to plan, they would be able to reach the outside without detection. However, things didn’t often go as planned and Dante was fully aware of this.
