Really, this was the band of people he brought together to “change the world?" Half of the next few hours was spent with Aubrey sitting down and laughing with and sometimes at his crew. From Kalliope’s hysterical attempt to drink liquor, Donner’s arm wrestling antics, Marius’ womanizing and Ren’s drinking lessons (who would have thought he would have been so talented after all?), Aubrey could not help but to enjoy this band of misfits. But compared to the others, Ponte and Justin were in a league of their own with those drunken revelries. It was interesting he supposed, just how different he and his best friend were. Justin was always calling him some type of name, constantly complaining and moping around, and yet Aubrey had not a shred of a doubt that his friend would defend their cause with his life, and knew with absolute certainty that he would do the same for Justin without batting an eye. Shaking his head near the end of that same friends cancan the young Captain unfurled his bulletin board notice about the ruins in the jungle and the potential reward. How he could work so diligently in this environment was beyond reasoning, but whatever works right?
He decided that someone would just have to go check out these ruins and find whatever treasure was buried up there. If people were willing to go trek through dangerous jungle and sift through ancient ruins then something must be in those ruins. Perhaps some of the crew would go there while he took care of the lingering request in the back of his mind. Treasure was nice, considering the amount of berri they were blowing here today, but what he had in mind was of the utmost importance. Contemplating who to send Aubrey was almost caught off guard when Donner placed a very expensive bottle in front of him, and gestured for everyone to join them, including the almost unintelligible Justin and his gun-toting partner Pove.
Everyone converged around the table for a moment as Donner left his very fancy bottle on the table before them. The entire bunch, crew and otherwise stood for a moment, some barely able to do so as they were almost beyond blacked out. Each stood around their table, a small glass in hand. Marius, Ponte, Aubrey, Ren, Justin, even Donner and Kalliope. Aubrey wasn’t much for booze, but he would not pass up the importance of this moment with them. Having made up his mind during the party he had but one choice remaining to him. His words were delivered as simply as he could, his eyes shifting between all those gathered around, but lingering on Donner and Kallie the most, with only a brief wink delivered towards Justin.
“To the White Wings, and to the newest members of our crew, Kalliope and Donner, should they accept, but a simple drink will seal our pact together.”
Then all at once the original men of the crew dropped back and drank the amazing liqueur provided to them. It tasted like white tea fermented on a sunny morning in a blissful garden of roses. Its touch to the pallet was so subtle that the thing might have been the death of Aubrey. The only ones waiting for their drink, eyes wandering around and lingering on their moment, were the two of the hour. Would Kallie and Donner decide to throw their lot in with these Men of Freedom, these Pirates of Hope?
We will just have to find out later…
Moments Later...
They still stood there, standing in a circle as Donner and Kallie made their choice in whether or not to join this fledgling crew in its flight down the Grand Line. But before the crew could even rejoice in the decision of the two, a man kicked opened the door of the bar. He looked mad, crazed and terrified as he yelled out at the crowd inside the bar, which had already quieted because of the White Wings not partying about. “Everybody, the Marines are all running out of the city! I think there is going to be a fight, The Captains been killed, some Marine did it!” From behind him you could see the rush of Marines, like they were going to war with their weapons all drawn and tempers flaring. The crowd responded quickly enough, leaping out of their chairs and running for the door like some stampede into the midday sun. The noise from outside was now much louder than from inside here, like a mob was terrorizing the town. The Marine Captain had been killed by another Marine? Just what was going on?
Babet was standing near the front of the fray, as some of the Marines who were from Enkai were yelling loudly in the center square, directly on the large steps that lead to the gate and out into the jungle. Babet’s thin frame, small glasses, pale skin and lavender hair meant he was no man of this island, but his long Justice Cloak seemed to give him all the authority he needed to be here for this meeting in the street. One Marine, with his own Justice Cloak and a dark black beard was yelling loudly at the top of the stairs to the ever-growing bulk of Marines below him. “Those bastards from Minato killed the Captain, they had been conspiring with the World Government and with Pirates to take over our half of the island! We gotta go stop them!”
The corners of Babet’s small mouth twitched up into a smile. The bait had been taken almost too easily. But no, the fun was just about to begin. How easy it was to use the islands past against itself; child’s-play really. Did this bumpkins really think the city of Minato was out to get them? The boss would be so pleased with this progress. Unfortunately the other Marines they had tried to get into port had been delayed from his reports, so there would be no Commander Slive to help them. But no matter, it was too late for doubts. The plan was in motion, no one could stop it now…
