Name of Island: Utopia Island
Size of Island: Nearly half the size of Alabasta
Location: Grand Line, Peace Route
Log Pose Time: Eight Days
Flora and Fauna: The entire island is cultivated. Therefore the plants that exist on this island are mainly vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, corn, wheat, peppers, onions, and radish) and fruits (apples, bananas, oranges, grapefruit, pomegranates, and an assortment of berries. The farms are located outside of the city walls. However, the Council’s Parliament Hall houses a large garden. This garden is filled with wonderful flowers and trees each with a different color, shape, and size. None are identical.
As far as animals go, there are a not many. Most of the animals that one tends to see on the island are typical farm animals, albeit slightly larger. This includes cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, horses, and turkeys. However these are all kept on the outside of city walls in the large pastures and farms. The one type of animal that is abundant on the island are birds. There are a multitude of birds each with its own shape, color, and size. The smallest of these birds is barely the size of mans palm, while the largest can grow to be larger than a man.
Every animal on the island is a herbivore so there are no predators on the island.
Politics: Not a part of the World Government. The people are ruled by a council of five men. They keep the island isolated from both pirates and Marines in order to keep up an idea of a “perfect utopia”. They deceive the people of the island and keep them from venturing off of the island for their own protection by keeping up the pretense that this is the only island and is therefore the only place anyone could go.
As for the law, there are only three major rules:
1.) No weapons are allowed
2.) Everyone must work.
3.) No speaking of leaving the island.
Population: Roughly 5000 people.
Inhabitants: The people of Utopia Island are a simple, educated people. Everyone works and contributes into making society functional and pleasant. Up until the age of sixteen, every member of the island attends school and learns reading, writing, and math. After that they are sent to another two years to learn a trade. Most of the populace are farmers while the rest are either employed as blacksmiths, shop owners, and workers. The majority of the populace knows nothing of the outside world as they have been taught from birth that their island is the only island. They do not know of the World Government or of pirates.
However, only a few select people know of the truth. These are the five council members who rule the island, and the Government Agents.
The five council members were selected from birth by the previous council members (as they were selected from birth by the previous members and on and on). They have been educated and trained to keep up the façade of a perfect world to ensure the protection and safety of the members of their island. Although they mean good, they allow very little freedom to ensure that there are no slips and mistakes in their Utopia.
The Government Agents are another select group of people. Consisting of 250 members, they enforce the law on the island. Chosen from each group of students, they are trained in hand to hand combat and interrogation. Although they keep to the shadows, they are recognizable by their long, dark green robes and black gloves that they wear. In more recent years, due to the large increase in pirates, most of the Agents have been relocated to the only accessible dock to prevent docking by any outsiders. Rumors have also stirred up of outside people and this has put a pressure on the Government Agents to silence and squash these rumors. However, the method is not always pleasant.
NPCS: None for now, may add later with future plots.
Town(s)/Village(s)/City or Cities:
Utopia: A large city that spreads over half the island. The entire city is surrounded by a 150 foot wall. There is only one way in and out of the city and that is by the Northern Gate. This gate is actually three gates. To go in or out, there is a security check at each gate by the Agents. The rest of the city is highly populated but is quite comfortable to live in.
The crowning building is the large Parliament Hall. Made of shining, white marble, the Hall is the home of the five council members and is guarded by many Agents. The Parliament Hall is located opposite of the Northern Gate with the Hall garden pushed up against the Southern Side of the wall.
Missions: N/A
Island History:
The city of Utopia was founded roughly 300 years after the founding of the World Government. Seeking refuge from pirates and wanting freedom to live as they wanted, a group consisting of seven hundred people, an assortment of farmers, shipwrights, blacksmiths, and business owners, sailed out into the sea to find a new home. After months at sea, and facing many losses and casualties, the group eventually made their way to the island they now call Utopia. However, it was far from a perfect society.
Since they had sailed, none had considered the type of society, politic, and culture they wanted to envision for their new society. The first settlers were divided by strife, dissention, and arguments. In fact, the entire island was split into two groups, one for complete and absolute freedom and the other for control, order, and monarchy. Each had a different view of a perfect Utopia. Eventually the two groups would come to blows. Although initially having the upper hand, the group for freedom lost and surrendered. However, by unanimous decision, the victors decided to put the entire group to death to prevent another rebellion from stirring up. Vowing to never let their children and their children’s children know of war and hate, they elected five prominent members to lead them. Thus, the Council and its Agents were born.
As time went on, we leap three-hundred and fifty years after the battle for Utopia. The city was built, the walls erected, and the people blissfully unaware of the truth. The society and its people lived in comfort and peace, never knew hunger or thirst, and had no wants or needs. Until the arrival of pirates. Although pirates were prevalent on the seas, none had made their way to their island until now. Although the Agents were swift in response, a group of young teenage farmers had seen the boat dock and the battle ensue. Rushing to tell the people of their city that there really is an outside world besides their own, many people laughed and scoffed at them. The Agents, however, heard. Detaining the young boys for “disturbance of peace” and for breaking one of the three core rules of Utopia, they began a long process of mental torture. After a few weeks they were released, unaware of the memories they had of the incident.
As we move onto more present time, the island continues to move on in a dream like state manner. Work, laugh, and play is all the people know. However, there is a hunger in each human for adventure that not even the Agents can put out. Although they cannot confirm their theories, for in fear of the Agents, many of the members of the island suspect that they have been lied to. About what? That they do not know, but word is…shhhh lest the Agents hear you, that there may be other islands out there. The question is, will they find out, or will an outsider come to them?
