It was a normal day here on the Floating Cloud Kingdom Island. Rafael Highwind, head of the Royal Guards, noble, advisor to the king, and overall hero of the Island had woken up early today. Actually, to be precise; he had gotten up at around five that day. As he always did, he stretched and got his glass of water and slipped into his usual shorts and tee he wore around his house. Walking around his house, he first grabbed something to eat. Afterwards, he tied his long blonde hair in a ponytail. This morning’s special, cereal. Chewing away at the cereal, Rafael thought of today’s activities. He would first make his usual inspection of the Royal Guard Barracks, that housed the twenty-five members, and then continue onto the lower island. Well actually, that would come second. He had to attend to his personal armor first.
Walking back into his bedroom, Rafael fumbled around his bedside drawer for his keys. The ring of golden keys held the keys for every door to all the barracks and the castle. Finding them thrown under the drawer, Rafael unlocked a peculiarly large wardrobe on the opposite side of the room. The wardrobe was a large silver guardian of a very important item of Rafael’s. As such, the wardrobe was locked with a sturdy lock. Finding the proper key and opening the wardrobe, Rafael took a step back to admire the craftsmanship of the armor that lay inside. Dragon Armor, the uniquely light yet durable silver and black armor of Rafael Highwind. It had taken the best of the best Kingdom’s blacksmiths to unite and create this armor. Even then, it had taken them well over a year to create. But oh was it worth it. The armor was modeled after that of a dragon’s scales. The forearms and leg guards had multiple razor shaped blades on them and the chest piece was made to deflect bullets and blades. Behind the shoulders were two small wing like protrusions. With enough speed, they would allow Rafael to glide. Then there was the crowning piece itself; the helmet. The entire helmet was shaped almost identically to that of a dragons head. Next to the set of armor was the brilliant blade of Rafael. A gleaming blade with a purple hilt designed like that of a window pane. Surely there was no armor on the earth as glorious as this.
Talking each piece individually, Rafael began to shine and clean them. An officer must look presentable at all times. As he finished, Rafael was pleased. Undressing of his casual clothing, Rafael carefully put on the magnificent armor and grabbed the sword by its sheath and went out to inspect the Royal Guards barracks. It was six o’clock. As he entered the barracks, he was pleased by the sight. Each and every one of the twenty members, five were on duty, were already up and ready for the inspection. As usual, they did not disappoint. Each bed was made and the barracks were spotless. As he turned, his second in command gave him the usual nod and was off with four other guards. The Royal Family was still asleep, but they would wake up greeted by security and safety. The Royal Guards would make an inspection of the castle that was linked to the barracks and to relieve the five other members that had pulled the “night shift”. Pointing at two other guards, Rafael would go check on the lower half of the island and check the dock. There was only one dock and he wanted to make sure that no one got through without being checked in and passed by the guards on duty there.
As they reached the “bridge” that was actually a cloud river that connected the two halves of the island, the two guards that came with Rafael headed back. Their job was to make sure he was not attacked and now they had duties. They were above the regular guard. They had to protect the Royal Family. Checking his two “wings”, Rafael hurled himself down alongside the river. He did this on a daily basis and longed to be able to really fly. But for now, that dream would be on hold.
As Rafael reached the bottom, Rafael started towards the docks. The day was beautiful enough, a bit breezy but that was normal here. On the upper half of the island, the breeze was strong enough to push people around like rag dolls. But enough with the dilly-dally, time for business. He could see the docks in the distance. As he neared, nothing looked out of the ordinary.
