Name of Island: Arabara Island
Size of Island: A small island. It's about the size of Usopps home island (around 37 km2)
Location: Peace Route of the Grand Line (the first stop)
Flora and Fauna:
The Arabara island is a very calm and quiet place. It's small size means that almost nothing survives on this island save for those animals that the human inhabitants allow to live. There are a few predators such as wolves and foxes that inhabit the small woods that dot the island. The only other predators are large poisonous frogs that infest the northern shores. There the forests give way to marshes and swamplands that are filled with snakes, lizards and the Barbaro frogs. These things are massive, almost as large as a cow and built like gorillas. they specialize in waiting near the edges of the marshlands and grab any creature unfortunate enough to stray near with their long and thick tongues. Other than that the animals are mostly domestic beasts, brought from far away lands or native to the island. These are unremarkable to say the least. The oceans around the islands are a different matter and are filled with deadly creatures, big and small. These can range from Sea Kings to deadly sharks. Mostly the waters are filled with the rare Fat-Fish. A fish that grows constantly throughout it's life and the adult ones are large enough to sink row boats if not handled correctly. The name Fat-Fish is given because of the immense amount of body fat that the fish have. This however is filled with nutrients and is very delicious. How exactly these fish ever evolved has been a mystery to the many scientist who research the waters around Arabara island.
The island is set with lush green fields and dotted with large knots of pine trees and other sturdy varieties of trees (like the forests in Norway or Sweden). The pine trees are the primary source of trading goods for the inhabitants of the island. Each one bears pine cones that give off a dye if mashed in to mulch. This can be almost any color in the world, like cyan, light blue or dark red. The specialty of the islanders is to spot which tree gives off which dye and try and grow them all in similar places, so as to make harvesting easier. Those few parts of the island that are not covered in the forests are open fields used for agriculture and provide the only city on the island with the grain and other food stuffs that they do not get from the sea.
The people here are mostly traders, farmers and of course fishermen. They work the fields and the forests to provide the traders with what they need to export. The people are divided in to 3 major religions, all of which hail to some part of the islands natural aspects. There are those who believe that the trees should be admired and not touched and mostly work the sea instead. There are those who worship the sea as the life giver and therefor must be appeased and protected, not fished and robbed of life. The third group are those who believe that the natural predators of the island, the frogs, are some sort of natural deities and there are rumors abound that they sacrifice animals and sometimes even people.
The island is home to a strong marine force as it is the first island that pirates encounter on their way through this part of the grand line. The islands fortress is constantly being reinforced due to the amount of men that fall or get injured but the ever warring religious groups as well as the many pirate crews that arrive on the island. As of recently a feeling of apathy has been growing in the marine forces as a long standing peace has lasted between the three religious groups and so they let pirates run around if they don't brake all too many laws.
Mustache Man Skimm: a ruthless pirate captain that has landed with his crew recently and is awaiting repairs for his ship as it was damaged in the crossing of Reverse mountain. Has a bounty of 10 million on his head and is always followed by his second in command, a women with a neck for staff fighting.
Captain Dofran: The marine captain of the island. A very hardy marine willing to die for the World Government and has been trying constantly (with mixed success) to break the aura of apathy that now lingers over the islands marine forces. He is a fierce fighter and more than willing to dive in to battle alongside of his men.
Golbla: leader of the Sea followers, those who believe that the sea is a omnipotent beast that must be protected and appeased. A devout man but mostly willing to compromise to keep the peace. His followers are the most numerous but are mostly merchants and lack any particular fighters.
Aminion: Leader of the Beast followers, those who believe that the frogs are powerful nature deities that must be appeased or they would devour the island's inhabitants. A short tempered man that has not tried to seize power over the entire island only due to a lack of followers. His group is the smallest of the three but does include many specialized monks that fight with bows and blades dipped in frog poison.
Yghart: Leader of the Nature followers, those who believe that the trees are the most important things of the island and must not be disturbed too much. His group is the second largest and boasts fighters that specialize in various smoke bombs and other tricks, utilizing the materials of the trees.
Normad Lonk: A minor noble who lives on the island, he is not much of a fighter but his bodyguard, Henzigger, is a former pirate with a bounty of 13 million and a powerful stingray fishman. It is around this noble that the few non-affiliated people and atheists gather. His standing as a noble has kept them from trouble with the religious groups
Barabara City is the only city on the island and the only real town to. It is home to 58000 souls, most of which are divided between the 3 different religions. It's harbor district is large and expansive and includes large docking and repair facilities. The north end of the harbor is linked with the massive Marine fortress. The fortress itself contains a sealed port that has to be opened to gain access to. The city is built up the slopes of a mountain at the top of which stands the palace of Lonk, the ancestral home of the Noble family of the same name.
At the southern end of the harbor is the Church of the Blue, the main stronghold of the Sea followers. At the outskirts of the city to the east is the Church of the Woods, where the followers of the Tree gods gather. On the slopes of the mountain stands the Church of the Beast, where the followers of the great frogs hold power. The city is run by a council from all three factions and so changes come very slowly if ever as the three factions always try to hinder the other two.
Other notable places include the Upside Man; the local tavern, a place where pirates like to hang out to avoid confrontations with the marines. The only other notable place is the Colorful Company. A ship building company that specializes in dyeing ships with the many colors of the trees found on the island, all of which are waterproof so that the color last on the sea.
Missions:None atm.
Island History: The history of Arabara island is a long and boring one and I will not go into it in great detail. The island was first inhabited by three groups of people all of which crashed there together after their ships got stuck to each other as they crossed Reverse mountain. The groups were all from various religious places and were traveling the world to spread their respective faiths. Their original homelands have long since been lost to the march of history and sufficed to say the islanders of Arabara island have few artifacts from their original lands.
As they settled in the followers of the different faiths began to bicker with each other. Some were angry at others for fishing and some were mad that they were hunting the frogs and drying up their marshlands. In the end this bickering became the source of a series of wars that devastated the population on every occasion. It was not until the arrival of Marine forces offering an entrance in to the World Government that the wars began to stop as the rising power at Mariejoa did not fancy an island with such a useful trading resource to be constantly wrecked with wars. Thus the council of Barabara city was formed and it is through that council that the wars have been quelled for now. A strong marine force was also sent in to protect the island from any outside threat and the Nobles of Lonk even made the island their main resort.
All of the factions of the island are in a state of uneasy truce and it will not take much to send them into the fires of war once more.
